Division 4 Team Of The Week: 2nd Edition - Fowler

FOWLER - A 4-1 10-inning victory over Dansville against one of the state’s best junior pitchers brings recognition to Fowler as the Prep Baseball Division 4 Team of the Week.

There was also a 2-2 deadlock with Dansville, 15-5 and 14-2 wins over Saranac and 7-0 and 5-2 victories over Bath this past week to improve the Eagles to 9-2-1 on the season.

“Expectations for this year are very high with everyone returning from last year's league championship and quarterfinals team,” noted head coach Glenn Pung. “Pitching and defense continue to be our strengths.”

That was evident against Dansville, with Evan Curtiss and Sam Vanesste combining to outduel Mosely, a West Virginia commit ranked fifth among left-handed pitchers in Michigan’s 2025 class. Curtiss, a 6-4 275-pound senior who is signed to play football at Grand Valley, and Vanesste, the 60th-ranked junior RHP in the state, combined to strike out 23 in the 10-inning 4-1 victory.

“The strength of our team is pitching,” related Pung. “We have a team ERA of 1.765. Evan Curtiss, Sam Vanesste, Noah Schafer, Ayden O’Rourke, Trevor Spicer and John Ruiz have logged some tough innings for us this year. Leading this talented group of pitchers is our all-league junior catcher Conner Katich.”

O’Rourke and Ruiz are seniors while Schafer and Spicer are sophomores.

“I have challenged these young men with a very challenging non-conference and league schedule,” explained Pung, whose Eagles are a half-game back of Laingsburg in the Central Michigan Athletic Conference, with the squads matching up on Thursday in a battle of state-ranked teams. Fowler is rated third in Division 4 while Laingsburg is 23rd in Division 3.

“If our hitting comes together I am confident we are going to have a lot of success the rest of this season,” concluded the Fowler head coach.
