Ventura, Calif. - As the entirety of the of the California High School sections are fully underway including the Northern sections all playing games Prep Baseball California will be highlighting a weekly game of the week.

This weeks match up from NorCal North Coast Section Game of the Week features a matchup between two of the top title contenders in the Vine Valley League as the Vintage Crushers face off with the Casa Grande Gauchos.

Game Preview:  Both programs enter the matchup with realistic chances at a Vine Valley League title. Vintage has been strong offensively over the course of the 2024 spring season averaging 5.8 runs per game plating 122 runs over their 21 game schedule so far while Casa Grande comes in averaging 4.5 runs per game with a total of 95 runs in 21 games. Both programs have solid pitching staffs with Vintage allowing 72 runs over the season with Casa Grande allowing 90 runs over their schedule so far this year. SR. Fernandez leads the Crushers offense with a .435 average including 9 doubles, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored while JR. Freschi is hitting .388 with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 12 RBIs and 17 runs scored. SR. Piersig leads the staff with 49.1 innings pitched, 5 wins, 2.27 ERA, 3 CGs and 2 shutouts while SR. arms Alcayaga and Willis have turned in strong spring seasons. Casa Grande has received offensive contributions from several players, but is being lead by the performance of SR. Clemmens who is sitting at .348 with 7 doubles, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored which all lead the team. While on the mound the Gauchos a pair of JR arms have been stellar all season lead by Laubscher who has thrown 47.2 innings struck out 68 with an astounding .29 ERA, 6 wins and 2 saves while Mercado has been nearly as electric throwing 38 innings striking out 52, picking up 4 wins, 5 saves and a 1.29 ERA.
