It's that time of year when the best 8 teams who have earned their way into the State Tournament compete for a chance to dogpile this Saturday.  This year's field in 6A features some of the most balanced talent that we've seen in the state in a long time truly making this year's tournament a toss up.  We go into each team's resume in how they got here, their record against the field, probable starters heading into tomorrow, and keys to victory for each team in their assigned matchup.  Be sure to follow along our social channels this weekend as we look to continue to bring you the most unrivaled coverage of all things Oklahoma High School baseball.

EDMOND SANTA FE WOLVES vs SAND SPRINGS SANDITES

EDMOND SANTA FE WOLVES

OVERALL RECORD: 27-10

RECORD AGAINST THE FIELD: 2-6

HOW THEY GOT HERE: After coming on top by a game against their rivals in Edmond North to take home the District 6A-1 crown, the Wolves were able to host their regional last week where they took care of business against the 4-seeded Lawton 10, beat the 2-seed Mustang in a dominate fashion of 13-0, and then had a two day affair with Mustang thanks to weather winning 6-4 to punch their ticket back to the State Tournament after missing it last season.

PROBABLE STARTER: 2026 Savion Sims (OU commit)

KEYS TO VICTORY: There aren’t many teams as hot as Coach Webb’s Santa Fe Wolves entering the tournament with a 16-4 record since the start of April.  They definitely had a low point early on in the season due in large part to some injuries to a few impact guys but they were able to right the ship thanks to a couple of bats stepping up and the electric arm of Savion Sims.  The 2-6 record against the 6A field this week isn’t great, but one of those victories came in the lone matchup against the Sandites back on April 6th where they took that one 8-5.  The bats heated up during the postseason with guys like Brady Morgeson, Carson Brumbaugh (Tennessee commit), and Carson Cooper along with Sims each having big weeks.  The Sandites starting pitching has a knack for racking up big strikeout numbers so for the Wolves to move onto the semifinals they will need to try and limit the swings and misses to put pressure on the defense along with getting a deep start on the mound.  Sand Springs’ offense has made their name in 2024 capitalizing on defensive mistakes so limiting to the free bases is critical to the Wolves’ chances of making it onto the next round.

SAND SPRINGS SANDITES

OVERALL RECORD: 27-11

RECORD AGAINST THE FIELD: 5-4

HOW THEY GOT HERE:  After finishing in third place in District 6A-3, the Sandites had to make their run to the state tournament on the road in the Union Regional where they cruised to an opening round victory against Bishop Kelley 13-1, then turned around and handled Bartlesville 8-1 to make it to the Regional final.  They would go on to punch their ticket in a clean sweep of the Regional taking down Union 2-0 to make it to the State Tournament for the first time in 13 years after coming so close the previous past couple of seasons.

PROBABLE STARTER: 2024 Eli Buxton (Arizona State commit), 2026 Easton Webb (OSU commit)

KEYS TO VICTORY: Coach Brown and the Sandites finally were able to punch their way through the State Tournament after coming so close in the previous couple of seasons.  The Sandites enter the tournament hot, winning 7 out of their last 8 games with the pitching staff carrying a large role down the stretch averaging only 2.75 runs per game in that stretch and coming off a Regional where they only gave up 2 runs in the three games.  They have the unique advantage where they have two frontline starters that they can choose from to start game one in both Eli Buxton and Easton Webb who each have true swing and miss stuff.  They also have a backend guy in the bullpen that has emerged as one of the tougher competitors on the mound in 2024 Wyatt Rutledge (NOC Enid commit) that they can rely on to finish games.  Offensively, their lineup is stretched pretty deep with multiple guys having breakout years with Jace Arnold (Allen County commit), Kayden Campbell (Cowley commit), Jackson Turney, Miller Tavaglione (Allen County commit), and Alex Dudley each showing the ability throughout the year to be big run producers.  In order for the Sandites to advance, they will need to take advantage of every free base they are given as well as deliver with runners in scoring position.  Handling the middle of the Santa Fe order is going to be crucial as well as trying to limit their extra base power as well as play strong defense to limit runners will be the formula to advancing to the next round.

EDMOND MEMORIAL BULLDOGS vs OWASSO RAMS

EDMOND MEMORIAL BULLDOGS

OVERALL RECORD: 25-9

RECORD AGAINST THE FIELD: 4-4

HOW THEY GOT HERE: Coach Holman and the Bulldogs finished the regular season coming in second in 6A-2 earning the right to host their regional.  They were met in the first round with the toughest 1v4 matchup having to take on Yukon after they had to forfeit a large chunk of their games but were able to walk them off 6-5 in the opener.  They would then take down Deer Creek 8-1 before finally punching their ticket to the State Tournament with the 4-1 win against Yukon to make it a clean sweep.

PROBABLE STARTER: 2025 Caleb Hines, 2026 Laird Williams

KEYS TO VICTORY: Coach Holman has the ability to turn to either of his two district starters in Hines and Williams who have each delivered strong starts from them down the stretch and each having the ability to rack up strikeouts in a hurry.  Their depth on the mound is also a plus with them having the ability to turn to Garrett Baker (Howard JC commit), Noah Humphreys, and Hudson Robinson (NOC Enid commit) to each finish games.  Offensively, they have multiple guys with extra base power and speed like Rhett Winchester, Landon Schmidt, Cooper Kardokus, Justin Tracy, Jase Winchester, and some power provided from Kason Evans (Garden City cc commit).  Stratton White (Clarendon cc commit) and Tyler Robinson have each come on late to stretch the lineup with each having big games the past couple of weeks.  Obviously when you go against the type of left-handed arms that Owasso has you have to take advantage of every opportunity that is given.  They will need to manufacture runs in multiple ways but more importantly might need to take advantage of the small-ball game and deliver when they get runners in scoring position.  Owasso takes advantage of mistakes offensively as good as anyone in the state so limiting the free bases is critical to moving onto the next round.

OWASSO RAMS

OVERALL RECORD: 34-6

RECORD AGAINST THE FIELD: 7-1

HOW THEY GOT HERE: The Rams rolled in 6A-2 winning the District by two games and earning the opportunity to host a regional.  They took care of business in the opening round against Capitol Hill cruising to a 20-0 victory.  They would then go through a battle with the 2 seed in Broken Arrow that took them to wire with a pair of homers before picking up the 4-3 victory in extra innings.  They would then punch their ticket back to the state tournament with a decisive 7-1 victory over Moore.

PROBABLE STARTER: 2024 Jackson Farrell (Arkansas commit), 2024 Luke Williams (Arkansas commit)

KEYS TO VICTORY: Coach Turner and the Rams have been wire-to-wire one of the best teams in the state throughout the 2024 campaign.  Each year the Rams seem to reload with productive young talent as well as getting key seasons from upperclassmen that have waited their turn.  When it comes to defining their success, you don’t have to look too hard to figure out it is in their starting pitching and overall depth on the mound.  Coach Turner will most likely turn to the senior Jackson Farrell due to him being their number one for a couple of years and taking the ball in the first round of the state tournament the past three years.  Farrell’s pitchability is unmatched in the state and we got a look at him last week in the Regionals where the stuff ticked up a notch from where we’ve seen him in the past.  If they wanted to go with Williams in game one, they will get one of the more productive left-handed power arms in the state who’s been able to rack up a ton of strikeouts thanks to a wipeout slider.  Offensively, they have been getting big contributions up and down the lineup at different times throughout the year with Carter Miller (Labette cc commit) starting it off out of the leadoff spot, Dylan Gardner, Cooper Auschwitz (Arkansas commit), Kooper Ranallo, and Reace Martinez (University of Arkansas Rich Mountain commit) coming up big in the past couple of weeks.  They also have a big punch from Luke Williams in the three hole and Bodie Amberson (NOC Tonkawa commit) has the pedigree of hitting strong pitching.  The Rams can always count on strong efforts on the mound come May and this year shouldn’t be much different.  In order to move onto the next round they have to be able to handle the small ball game defensively as well as try to put up a crooked number somewhere in the game.  Their offense has a tendency to roll when they get the leadoff hitter on base so making that a priority on offense will be a major key for them to continue playing into Friday.

WESTMOORE JAGUARS vs ENID PLAINSMEN

WESTMOORE JAGUARS

OVERALL RECORD: 22-17

RECORD AGAINST THE FIELD: 3-6

HOW THEY GOT HERE: After finishing third in 6A-2, the Jaguars and Coach Hunnicutt had to make it on the road at Edmond North where they would take down Putnam City 17-1 before dropping the winner’s bracket game to host Edmond North.  They would then take care of Lawton Ike 11-0 in the elimination game before getting back to back shutouts against North winning 4-0 and 3-0 to make their way back into the State Tournament.

PROBABLE STARTER: 2024 Bradley Ruby (Seminole State commit), 2026 Brodie Inhofe

KEYS TO VICTORY: You can’t say the Jaguars were in a good spot headed into the Regionals dropping 7 out of their last 8 games before the playoffs.  Coach Hunnicutt pulled all the right strings last weekend after dropping that contest to Edmond North pitching three consecutive shutouts while only allowing 4 hits in those three games.  Ruby has been their guy all season long, and if he gets the nod in the opener, he will look to bounce back from a rough start in the regional and get back to the guy who consistently pitched them deep into games.  Offensively, the top of the lineup can stack up with anyone else’s in the 6A field starting with Josiah Kemp (OU commit) heating up out of the leadoff spot, Connor Cavnar (Johnson County commit) and Tanner Fallwell (Cowley County commit) each with the potential to leave the yard at anytime, and Caleb Rey being productive out of the 4 hole.  The lineup can stretch with the speedy Gage Geiger (OCU commit) and Jacob Wehba as an accomplished hitter.  Obviously getting a quality start on the mound is key for the Jaguars and getting that big production out of the top of the order is critical for them if they want to continue onto the semifinals.

ENID PLAINSMEN

OVERALL RECORD: 27-14

RECORD AGAINST THE FIELD: 3-4

PROBABLE STARTER: 2024 Bennett Percival (NOC Enid commit), 2025 Israel Gonzales (Cowley County commit), 2024 Seth Carlson (Crowder commit)

HOW THEY GOT HERE: After finishing 5th in 6A-4 by way of a three way tie and a 9-5 record, the Plainsmen had to go on the road to Piedmont for their regional.  They would drop their opener to Norman North 6-2 before surviving their first elimination game beating Muskogee 9-3.  They avenged their loss to Norman North with a 4-0 victory before getting the bats hot and sweeping Piedmont 10-0 and 10-1 to go the long way through to make it to the State Tournament.

KEYS TO VICTORY: Coach Gore and the Plainsmen made it through with the rare feat of losing their opener in the regional and then winning 4 straight to make it back to the State Tournament.  They have multiple guys with starting experience and Coach Gore has options of who he wants to start in the opener.  Gonzales got the Regional opening nod last week and Seniors Percival and Carlson both turned in strong performances as potential power arm righties.  Offensively, it all starts with the leadoff man and one of the top prospects in the country in Garrett Shull (OSU commit).  Last year’s Player of the Year in OK hasn’t had the type of banner year that he put up in his junior season but still has the potential to change the game with one swing of the bat.  Wheatly Chaloupek (Texas Tech commit) has been a big run producing force in the middle of the lineup and McCage Hartling (NOC Enid commit) has been clutch throughout his career in big moments.  The lineup is littered with tough outs in Tyson Kennedy, Cooper Jarnigan (Coffeyville CC commit), and Aidan Robinson each turning in strong performances as of late.  Enid’s depth of pitching obviously shined in the Regional but they will need to get a strong start out of whoever Coach Gore gives the ball to in the opener to give themselves a chance to make it back to the State Title game.  The lineup will also need to limit the strikeouts and get somebody to step up with runners in scoring position to give themselves the best chance of advancing.

STILLWATER PIONEERS vs CHOCTAW YELLOWJACKETS

STILLWATER PIONEERS

OVERALL RECORD: 26-8

RECORD AGAINST THE FIELD: 3-4

PROBABLE STARTER: 2024 Blake Aziere (NOC Enid commit)

HOW THEY GOT HERE: The Pioneers finished 2nd in 6A-3 earning them the opportunity to host their Regional last week where they slugged their way to an opening round victory over Ponca City 18-11 against a tough arm.  They would then take down the defending 6A State champs in consecutive games 15-3 and 7-4 running through Bixby’s quality pitching staff to punch their ticket back to the State Tournament.

KEYS TO VICTORY: Coach Lees and the Pioneers have been red hot entering the State Tournament picking up 16 wins in their last 20 games including 13 out of their last 14.  In those last 14 games, the Pioneer’s offense has exploded averaging 10.85 runs during that stretch with weapons flooded all throughout the lineup.  At the top it’s the freshman Brady Holliday who has had a strong season setting it up followed by Landon Littau, Parker Jeffery (NOC Enid commit),and Tyner Wilson (NOC Enid commit) all providing strength in the middle of the order.  The main piece of the Pioneer offense is the top ranked 2025 in the country in Ethan Holliday (OSU commit).  Holliday has really started to heat up down the stretch where he went 6-11 with a homer in each Regional game and driving in 7 runs.  The lineup gives opposing pitchers no rest with talented hitters like Owen Coil (Oral Roberts commit) and Talon Kendrick (OSU Football commit) at the bottom with each guy capable of leaving the yard at any time.  On the mound, they will most likely turn to their ace in Blake Aziere who has proven himself throughout to navigate strong lineups multiple times through the order using a jumpy fastball and feel for a big curveball and changeup.  Their obvious key to victory is getting a strong start from Aziere if he starts and the offense has to continue to put up big crooked numbers like they’ve been doing the past couple of weeks.  Choctaw has been the state’s best for a large stretch of the season thanks to their relentless offensive attack so no lead is safe in this one between both teams.

CHOCTAW YELLOWJACKETS

OVERALL RECORD: 28-3

RECORD AGAINST THE FIELD: 3-1

PROBABLE STARTER: 2024 Easton Teel (Cowley County commit, 2025 Gaige Albright (OSU commit)

HOW THEY GOT HERE: Coach Hawk and the Yellowjackets finished the regular season as our Power 25 number one team in the state thanks in large part to a strong record and finishing atop District 6A-2 and hosting a regional.  They wasted no time in the opener taking down Northwest Classen 18-0 before beating Southmoore in back to back games both at 12-1 to breakthrough and punch their ticket to the State Tournament.

KEYS TO VICTORY: When you have a record of 28-3 headed into the State Tournament you’ve obviously had some strong runs throughout the campaign.  Their offense has really come alive down the stretch averaging 12 runs a game in their last 6 games and they have been getting contributions up and down the lineup.  Drake Fittro (Cowley County commit) gets it started at the top of the order and is one of the more accomplished hitters throughout his career in the 6A field.  Cade Green has put together strong at bats out of the two hole ahead of the dangerous Cash Williams (Tennessee commit) who is a danger to leave the yard at any time.  Easton Teel is not only their go-to arm but he’s also provided a heavy punch in the middle of the order.  The lineup has depth with guys like Colton Johnson, Gaige Albright, Cooper Zeiders, Logan Nei, and the talented Freshman in Titus Hawk at the bottom of the order giving the opposing pitchers no rest.  On the mound, Coach Hawk can choose from either Teel or Albright to take the mound as each have put together dominating performances down the stretch.  Teel has been their headline guy all season long with his low 90’s fastball and feel for the slider and changeup.  Albright gives them a left-handed option to attack some of Stillwater’s impact left-handed bats if he chooses to go that route.  When going up against a potent lineup like Stillwater, they will get their hits and might score a few runs but limiting the extra and free bases to limit crooked number innings will be critical for the Jackets as they look to advance.  They will need to continue to manufacture runs like they’ve been doing the past couple of games both in impact bats stepping up and creating havoc on the base paths and through small ball which has been their recipe for success throughout the 2024 campaign.
