The 3A field is set and is wide open as we've seen it in a long time thanks to the crazy amount of good starting pitching that will toe the rubber on Thursday.  With those frontline arms and offenses that have proven to put up big numbers in a hurry it should make for a very intriguing week.  We take a look at each team's players to watch as well as dive into what they need to do to continue to advance to dogpile Saturday.

SALINA

Coach Simmons and Salina come into the 3A state tournament as one of the favorites for good reason. They have one of the top arms in the ‘24 Oklahoma class in RHP Connor Johnson and some extra base threats in the heart of their order. Senior Maverick Williamson is one of the key components to this Salina team who has the ability to leave the yard at any time and will contribute big innings to them on the mound as well. The key for Salina is to continue to get production from the middle to bottom part of their order as that will go a long way to give their pitching staff some run support.

LONE GROVE

Coach Pybas and Lone Grove enter this year's state tournament with high expectations. They have a dominant arm in LHP Cale Sudderth who is a proven competitor against some of the best lineups in the state using a mix of a low to mid 90s FB, 75-77 mph CB and a high 70s CH. Other players to note are football standout Brody Harris who provides a punch in the heart of the Lone Grove order, and sophomore Tatum Quinn who has been one of Lone Grove’s most productive players on both sides of the ball this spring. If Lone Grove wants to make a run, they will need their back half of the rotation to get key outs and get some run support from the top of the lineup.

WASHINGTON

Coach Kulbeth and the Washington Warriors are back to back champions in Class 3A and look to make it a 3-peat this week. The Warriors bring an interesting dynamic as they have a unique blend of speed and power on the offensive side as they have multiple players that impact the game at a high level. Senior Dax McCaskill has been extremely productive all spring showing the ability to leave the yard and the ability to swipe a bag whenever he wants. Senior Marlon Moore also impacts the game a bunch of ways as a slick fielding infielder who has proven to produce in big moments every year. The rotation is led by LHP Tristan Babbitt who fills the zone with 3 pitches and has pitched in big moments for the Warriors over the past few years. 

HERITAGE HALL

Coach Freeman and the Heritage Hall Chargers have a squad to the 3A state tournament that brings a mix of experience and youth to the table. The Chargers have two arms that are proven winners in Julius Ejike-Charles and Carson Beam who both fill the zone and have the stuff to get good hitters out. Heritage Hall relies on those two on the offensive side as well and have gotten hot bats from sophomores Whit Thomas and Isaac Beason who have helped supply some run support. Heritage Hall has a chance to make some noise in this tournament if they continue to stay on the hot run they were on going into this week.

PERRY

Coach Bouher and the Perry Maroons enter this week’s 3A State Tournament winning 11 of their last 12 contests. Perry has dominated 3A opponents going 19-0 against them this spring which should give them some confidence going into their most important week of the spring. The Maroons got a dominant start almost every Monday this spring from senior LHP Kyle Zagar who has been one of the more dominant arms in the class this spring. In the lineup, they get contributions from Zagar, but also senior Jose Tiscareno and juniors Bronson Bouher and Tajon Williams. Perry seems to be playing their best baseball at the right time, which makes them a threat to whoever they match up with this week.

SILO

The Silo Rebels have won the last 6 2A state tournaments but get to test themselves for the first time in class 3A this spring. Coach Jeffcoat has the Rebels playing their best baseball going into this week where they have won 5 straight to get them here. Silo always puts pressure on their opponents where they play great team baseball and love to move runners into scoring position anyway possible. Silo is always a threat because they force other teams to make mistakes as they throw strikes and put balls into play which can make opponents uncomfortable. The Rebels always find ways to win, and you can never doubt them when it comes to winning games in the postseason.

Coach Winterrowd and Mount St. Mary have one of the youngest teams in this year’s field but that doesn’t come with a lack of confidence to get the job done. The Rockets have some young talent that are itching to get some postseason experience including highly projectable sophomore LHP Parker Hayes. Hayes uses a long 6 '6 frame to get on hitters with 3 quality pitches including a mid to high 80s FB where he has proven to keep off the barrel. Freshman Wade Webb has been able to come around as of late in the lineup as he provides a bunch of defensive versatility where he can play MIF or any outfield spot at a high level. The question for the Rockets is if they are going to be able to get some production out of the bottom of the lineup, as that will be a key component if they want to win a few games and make it to Saturday’s championship contest.

Coach Mike Hinckley and the Royals punched their ticket to the State Tournament for the first time in school history after picking up a sweep against a strong Bethel program 9-1 and 3-2.  For them it all starts on the mound with the talented and already well accomplished left-hander in Elijah Williams.  Williams has true swing and miss stuff with the fastball working in the mid 80’s and reports of some higher paired with feel for a changeup and breaking ball with big depth.  His ability to rack up the strikeouts will be crucial for the CCS against a strong Salina lineup.  Offensively, they have a scrappy attack 1-9 with each hitter showing short and compact swings with the ability to drive the ball to all fields.  After Williams at the top of the order, prospects like Jennings, Bradley, and Peterson all provide a thump in the middle of the order and are charged with being the primary run-producers in the lineup.  Getting a strong start on the mound and being able to manufacture a couple of runs by hitting when they get guys in scoring position is going to be key for the Royals if they look to advance deeper into the tournament.
