Indiana Player of the Week : Week 6

Our Week #6 honors goes to Kaleb Short of River Forest High School.


Kaleb Short SS / RHP / River Forest, IN / 2024

Short had a monster week for 3A River Forest - quite possibly the most impressive stat-line that has been submitted this year. The senior, committed to Ancilla JC, went 10 for 11 (.909) at this dish - driving in (14) runs, while clubbing (2) doubles, (2) triples, and a homer. Short also stole four bases and reached base at a .923 clip. Short was just as, if not more impressive on the mound, where he went 2-0 in (12) innings pitched, allowing just (4) hits, (2) walks, and (0) earned runs, while striking out (31) batters. 

 

 

Caden Crowell, LHP/1B, Valparaiso, Junior

Crowell had a big week on both sides of the ball for the 4A #6 Vikings. Crowell earned the win in a (5) IP, (14) strike out performance against a conference foe, coming up one hit short of a perfect game. The Notre Dame recruit also added (6) hits in (9) trips (.667) to the plate, including a double, triple, and a homer.

Jayce Lee, OF, South Bend Saint Joseph, Senior

Lee caught his stride this week for 3A #5 South Bend Saint Joseph, going 9 for 18 (.500) with (4) doubles, a triple, and (2) home runs. The Notre Dame recuit scored (6) runs and collected (10) RBI.

Alex Barr, LHP/1B, Kankakee Valley, Junior

Barr was another player that performed well on both sides of the ball. The Indiana recruit punched out (14) in (6) innings of work, and also added a 4 for 8 (.500) week at this dish with a double and a homer.

Tyson Greenwood, LHP/1B, New Prairie, Senior

Greenwood helped 3A #8 New Prairie to a 3-1 week and he earned the win in a complete game shutout of Jimtown, where he struck out (11). The Purdue-Fort Wayne recruit also went 8 for 13 (.615) with (4) doubles and (9) RBI.

Grady Nelson, INF, Warsaw, Freshman

The top-ranked left-handed hitter in our freshman class went 7 for 10 (.700) with (2) doubles and (9) runs scored. Nelson reached base at a .778 clip for 4A #22 Warsaw.

Jaxon Henke, OF, Evansville Central, Senior

Henke, a senior headed to play at Franklin College next season, had a standout week at the dish, going 9 for 14 (.643) with a double, triple, home run, (7) runs scored, and (9) runs driven in.

Jayce Key, C, Yorktown, Senior

Key collected (6) extra-base hits in (12) total at-bats this week. The Hanover College recruit hit (.583) on the week, totaling (3) home runs, (3) doubles, and he picked up (9) RBI.

Patrick Barry, RHP/SS, North Newton, Senior

Barry had a strong week on both sides, allowing (0) runs and (0) hits in (6) innings pitched, striking out (11). The two-way performer also went 9 for 12 (.750) with (2) doubles, (2) home runs, (10) RBI, and (5) stolen bases.

Hogan Denny, C, Mooresville, Senior

Denny appears on this list yet again and now holds a tie for the state's home run lead with 6. The Indiana recruit hit (3) homers this week, with (10) RBI in total. Denny went 4 for 11 (.363), drawing (4) walks, (3) of which were intentional.

Michael Slabaugh, C, Fairfield, Senior

Slabaugh makes the list for the third time this season after another huge week for 3A #9 Fairfield. The Huntington signee collected (7) hits in (10) trips (.700) - including (2) doubles, (2) triples, and a home run. Slabaugh reached base at an .800 clip this week. 

Evan Lanphier, Pitcher, Cascade, Senior

Lanphier collected two wins this week for the 2A #10 Cadets, one of which came against a top-10 ranked opponent. In total, Lanphier worked (11.2) innings, allowing (0) ER, (5) hits, and he struck out (14).

AJ Nunley, SS, Guerin Catholic, Junior

Nunley returned from injury this week for 3A #3 Guerin Catholic, helping them to a 3-1 week. The uncommitted shortstop went 6 for 13 (.462), including (2) doubles and the walk-off hit against Norwell.

Jack Dowell, C, Harrison, Senior

Dowell, a senior headed to play at Spalding next season, went 6 for 12 (.500) for 4A #21 Harrison, collecting a pair of doubles and (3) RBI.

Austin Jenkins, OF, Southwestern (Hanover), Junior

Jenkins has helped the Rebels to a 13-6 record thus far, and had a standout week at the dish this week. The uncommitted junior went 7 for 10 (.700) with a pair of doubles, (3) stolen bases, (5) runs scored, and (4) RBI.
