WEEK 9 SCOUT BLOG
+ 2026 C Jax Robinson - Waxahachie
The LHH catcher was in the leadoff spot for Waxahachie, and was on the barrel consistently all night. Robinson has some natural rhythm in his swing, and was on time all night. His barrel stays through the zone allowing him to drive the ball to all parts of the field. He had 2 doubles on the night, and I think he will continue to grow into some power as he matures. Behind the plate, Robinson moved well and showed good receiving skills. His elbow dropped on some of his throws and the ball sailed on him, but when right, I had him at 2.02 during warm ups. Overall, a very impressive night for Robinson.
The other sophomore for Waxahachie that stood out was Pearrow. The RHH shortstop looked more physical, and had some good swings. He had a big double in a back and forth game, and drove it over the LF’s head. He gets his swings off and doesn’t hold back, but does a good job of keeping his balance throughout the swing. Defensively, Pearrow played short and looked good on the night. The arm is still a little light for short at the next level, but he could be an above average defender at 2nd. Pearrow continues to elevate his game, and am excited to see him this summer.
+ 2024 1B Trey Craig - Mansfield Lake Ridge - Texas A&M
The Texas A&M recruit was in the middle of the action all night for Lake Ridge’s come from behind win. Craig was intentionally walked a couple of times, but when they let him swing the bat, he had a RBI sac fly and a big RBI double. Craig has some of the best bat speed in the state, and anytime he swings you know you there is a chance for loud contact. Craig’s swing continues to tighten up, and some of the pre-swing movement has gotten quieter, which has led to a very consistent and dangerous senior season for the big first baseman.
I have seen Rameriz a couple times now this spring, and all the man does is make plays and find barrels. The future Navarro Bulldog started the game with a bang, as he took the first pitch of the game and sent it over the LF wall for an HR. He would have multiple other barrels throughout the game as well. There is good rhythm in the swing, and with a frame that projects, Logan could grow into some more power at the next level. Rameirz also is smooth with the glove. He moves well at third and has good range, as evident by the barehand play he made coming in. He plays with good energy and confidence, and has been really impressive.
The ‘22 Future Gamer and future San Jac Raven got in on the action as well for Lake Ridge. Tellez had 2 big RBI doubles on the night, and scored a couple runs in Lake Ridge’s win. Tellez showed some thump with two balls that short hopped the right center fence. He has a strong frame and shows the ability to drive the ball with authority to all fields.
The Nebraska commit was nails in a big win that helped Prosper maintain the district lead over Allen last week. I have seen White a handful of times this spring, and he gets better as the game goes on. He battled command issues early, but as the game went on, he continually peppered the inner half against righties. When he is on, he throws his upper 80’s fastball to both sides of the plate, and throws both a curve and changeup. White looks ready to lead the #3 team in the state heading into the playoffs.
The sophomore got off some good swings last week against Prosper. The RHH drove a ball off the Green Monster at Prosper in his 1st ab for a double. Tanksley shows power potential, with a strong frame and some bat speed. He has good rhythm in the box, and I have seen him drive the ball to all fields in the past. Tanksley has some position versatility, being able to play 2nd and 3rd, and can also get behind the plate as well.
One of the big standouts last week that I didn’t know much about going into Ridge Point’s game against FB Elkins, but the uncommitted Sr. made his presence felt. McIntyre was called out of the pen in the 1st inning, limited the damage, and then was on cruise control the rest of the night. He has a projectable frame that has plenty of room for good weight, and I can envision his velo continuing to tick up from the 84-88 I saw last week. He went with a low 70’s breaking ball for his main secondary that showed some depth. McIntyre’s best innings are ahead of him. Someone will get a late steal in him.
The Texas State recruit has always shown athleticism and twitch when we have seen him in the past, and last week was no different. He led off the game with an opposite field double for the Rangers in a big district matchup. Later in the game, He went yard to the pull side to get Smithson Valley back in the game after being down 2-0 up until then. He is a good defender with a strong arm as well, playing RF in this game. We have also seen him get on the mound and run the FB into the upper 80’s.
Espinoza has gotten more physical and it was apparent as soon as he stepped on the mound. The Hill College recruit looked solid in his start last week, with the FB sitting 88-91, and a SL at 77-80. The SL generated swing and miss and I was surprised to see him go away from it at times when it was working. Espinoza scattered 5 hits over 6 innings while striking out 7 and allowing 3 runs to a solid Boerne Champion team. He has always shown the ability to pitch and has now added strength and size to suggest some projectability down the road.
+ 2025 RHP Sawyer Smith - Boerne Champion - UncommittedThis was my first time seeing Smith and the Jr. was solid. In what was most likely the biggest game of the year up to that point, Smith looked calm and collected. He cruised for 6.1 innings with a low-to-mid 80’s FB and a BB in the mid 70’s. He scattered 7 hits and struck out 7 while giving up 2 runs to a good Smithson Valley lineup. This effort was enough to keep the Chargers in control of the game and win in walk-off fashion in the 7th. The uncommitted Jr. has a clean delivery and will likely add velocity as he has room to add strength. The pitchability is present.
Ballin was a member of the 2022 TX Future Games Team, and a UTSA recruit. He hits out of the leadoff spot for the Chargers and found the barrel in each AB. He came up empty on the first 3 AB’s but delvered a single to LF during a rally in the final inning to set up a walkoff win. Ballin has an aggressive but calculated approach, and tends to hit to the opposite field. He did pull a ball to RCF with authority that was caught on the warning track on a great play by CF. He is a good defender and just an overall quality ballplayer.
+ 2025 MIF Josh Gonzales - Austin Bowie - UncommittedGonzales is an uncommitted Jr. MIF that hits leadoff for Bowie. He is a bit undersized but still has generates some pop at the plate. He got things going for Bowie on a double to LF and came around to score to make the game 1-0 in the 4th against Westlake. He is a spark plug for the bulldogs and a big part of their push for playoffs.
+ 2024 RHP Cole Miller - Austin Bowie - Abilene Christian
The ACU recruit was solid in his start last week against Westlake. He went 5.2 hitless and ended up going 6.1 of 1 hit baseball. He struck out 8 and walked 4 with no earned runs allowed. He was mostly 86-87 with the FB but reached back for 91 in the 5th. He has two breaking balls, a CB at 72-73 and a SL at 77-78. The SL is small but effective and he uses it most often. He showed the CH in warmups but did not have to use it in-game. He is a true competitor and knows how to pitch. A little erratic at times but was able to lock in when needed.
