NCAA's New Notification of Transfer Policy

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

On Wednesday June 13th, the NCAA Division I Council approved a “notification of transfer” proposal.  The new rule will go into effect this October, allowing student-athletes at the Division I level to notify schools of their intent to pursue a transfer to a different institution.  Schools will have two days to update a national registry with the player’s name so that schools across the country can see they are allowed to contact that athlete.

In June of 2017, Recruiting Essentials took a deep dive into the Transfer rules and regulations.  Many of those rules are still in place.

+ 4 year to 4 year transfers will still have to complete one year in residency if they are transferring into a D1 program
