Best Of The Rest: The Top Uncommitted Class of 2022 Prospects After Initial Signing Date

The NCAA signing period started on November 10th. With the start of the signing period upon us, we take look at who the top in-state uncommitted prospects are and what they could provide to a program at the next level.

Top Arms

Jayden Jerger RHP / 1B / Defiance, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 75 / POS: 21 Report: 6-foot-1, 180-pound righty. Athletic on the mound, showing quick arm speed while using a loose arm action through a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher. Lands square with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 85-87 mph; shows late action and very consistent command. Curveball in the low to mid 70s with nice shape and a good spin rate around 2400. The change has fading action on it while sitting in the mid to upper 70s. A dominant spring and summer, going 18-0 in 119 innings, with a 1.17 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 138 strikeouts.

Patrick Dinnen RHP / OF / Mayfield, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 76 / POS: 22 Report: 6-foot-1, 168-pound quick armed righty. High ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher while showing an easy effort. Balance point is tall with a downhill shoulders during delivery. Lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball sits 85-88 mph. with running hard action (Max spin 2367; Avg 2203). Shows slurvey tight action on his 10/4 slider (72-75). (Max spin 2459; Avg 2176). Changeup (82-83 mph).

Luke Schlimm LHP / LaSalle, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 78 / POS: 16 Report: 6-0, 190-pound southpaw shows a simple delivery from the stretch and throws from a high ¾ arm slot. He creates downhill leverage on his pitches. The fastball sits in the mid to upper 80s and jumps out the hand clean and shows some life and ‘ride’ through the zone. Low 70s breaker shows good depth and bite. Good feel for both his pitches. Breaking ball was thrown with fastball arm speed and created good deception.

Colin Ames RHP / 3B / Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 80 / POS: 24 Report: 6-foot-2, 225-pound physical frame. Athletic on the mound, shows quick arm speed with a ¾ arm angle. Slow-tempo type pitcher and uses easy effort. Shows an athletic balance point and a clean finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 86-88 mph. Curveball (70-71 mph), changeup (78-80 mph), slider (75-77 mph).

Braeden Goulet LHP / OF / Wapakoneta, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 85 / POS: 18 Report: 6-foot-1, 180-pound. Athletic on the mound, shows good arm speed and a compact arm action. Slow-tempo type pitcher who shows easy effort. Displays in line shoulders and a tall balance point. Lands square with a clean finish. Fastball sits in the mid-80s with some run. Good looking curveball in the low 70s.

Keelan Daniel OF / 3B / Moeller, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 81 / POS: 9 Report: 5-foot-10, 170-pound outfielder. Athletic at the plate, Daniel clocked an exit velocity of 90 mph. Starts in an open athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed was quick, and showed a level swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid in the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 82 mph; showed soft hands, a natural exchange, and athletic feet. Out front fielding mechanics. Has ran the 60-yard dash in 6.97.

Michael Molnar OF / Mason, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 103 / POS: 10 Report: 6-foot-3, 190-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 92 mph. Started in an open stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride. Had a flat swing plane, explosive bat speed and level finish. He barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Pull side approach. Athletic in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 85 mph; has smooth feet, and sure hands. Showed an-over-the-top slot and a loose arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.66.

Brayden Fraasman C / OF / Ross, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 102 / POS: 10 Report: 5-foot-11, 190-pound. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 98 mph. Begins in an athletic open stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a short stride. Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, his strong arm produced efficient throws to second at velocities up to 80 mph; showed his ability to throw runners out with an efficient pop time of 1.88-1.97. Clocked a 60 time of 7.04.

Dylan Thatcher 1B / OF / Madeira, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 108 / POS: 6 Report: 6-foot, 190-pound 1B/OF. At the plate, the left-handed hitter has produced an exit velocity of 94 mph. A guy that continues to impress at the plate. Love the combination of smooth actions and burst he is able to create. A guy that can presently run the gaps and should be able to play over the wall as he progresses. Middle of the order bat. Also looked the part defensively. Has recorded a 60 time of 7.55.

Theo Winings C / Eaton, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 113 / POS: 11 Report: 6-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting catching prospect. Solid showing in BP. Physical dude w/above average bat speed and gap to gap direction. Natural loft to stroke allows him to lift the ball naturally. Run producer traits with a top EV of 93mph. In game he showed well behind the dish. Well +Avg arm, can block/receive smoothly and athletically. Going to be a solid addition to a college program. Has recorded a 60 time of 7.03.

Top Two-Way Guys

Austin Sizemore 3B / RHP / Olentangy, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 79 / POS: 1 Report: 5-foot-11, 185-pound. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 95 mph. Started in an athletic open stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is explosive and displays a level swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 85 mph; natural fluid exchange. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.27. Solid on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action while showing quick arm speed. Feel type pitcher who uses some effort. Showed consistent balance point with in line shoulders. Has a recoil finish. Throws his fastball in the middle to upper 80s. Curveball (70-74 mph).

Benjamin McCallum RHP / OF / Jackson, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 106 / POS: 31 Report: 6-3, 205-pound RHP/OF. Right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced stance. High ceiling bat with size and Physicality. Ball really comes off well when squared and doesn't take a ton of energy for him to do so. Stayed inside the baseball nicely, working gap to gap in BP. Corner skill set in the outfield. Fluid actions with a confident/efficient play through. Ball skills are solid. Arm has a chance to be a well above average tool. Ball jumps, easy gap abilities with more to come. On the mound, McCallum is another potential high-level arm out of Jackson HS. 6-foot-3, ideal pitchers frame with an easier delivery. Spins a sharp, downer of a breaking ball with good spin in the 68-71mph range. The fastball sits in the mid-80s. All physical indicators, including hand speed/spin indicate more velo in the tank to add to fastball. Expect stock to only rise here.

Jake Tschida OF / LHP / Roger Bacon, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 120 / POS: 16 Report: 5-foot-11, 180-pound physical frame. Projectable at the plate, Tschida was ranked 1st with an exit velocity of 99 mph. Begins in an athletic balanced stance with a smooth quick load, then uses a big leg kick. Bat speed is explosive and has a level swing plane. Athletic when throwing from the outfield, he showed off his strong arm with throws at velocities of 88 mph;has soft hands, a developing exchange, and smooth developing feet. Fielded the ball one hand with athletic movement laterally. Above average on the mound, used a ¾ arm angle with a quick arm action while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Showed an athletic balance point. Threw his fastball 83-84 mph; has running action and arm side control. Throws a 1/7 curveball (74-77) that has plus action. His changeup (68-71) had fading action and arm side command.

Preston Allen RHP / 3B / Reynoldsburg, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 127 / POS: 37 Report: Interesting follow. Good mover that is on time with some athleticism in there. Arm works. Mid-80s, up to 88. and he should continue to add velocity as he matures. Fastball was live when in the zone. Also spun a playable breaking ball on an 11/5 plane in the low 70s. At the plate, the right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced stance. Goes with a leg kick timing trigger during back load to hands. Uphill path with physicality to stroke. Has some whip in there. Shows gap pop. The frame/skill set plays over at third base. Fluid mover with ball skills on par for class. The arm is a well above average tool for a corner guy.

Johnny Nixon RHP / 3B / Minster, OH / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 134 / POS: 41 Report: 6-foot-4, 190-pound. Capable in the box, Nixon had an exit velocity of 91 mph. (63.39 mph bat speed average). (20.05 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall open stance with a small controlled load, then uses a toe tap. Bat speed is above average, exhibits a level rotational swing plane and level finish. Found some barrels through his round. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 80 mph; had consistent footwork, developing hands, and a natural exchange. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag and a compact arm action. Athletic on the mound, showed quick arm speed with a loose arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Up-tempo type pitcher who uses easy effort. Has in line shoulder and athletic balance point. Displayed a clean finish Changeup (75-77 mph), slider (69-70 mph). Produced a fastball that came in at 81-84 mph. (Max spin 2184; Avg 2051). Throws a 10/4 curveball that has slurvey action. (Max spin 2160; Avg 2060).
