Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week: Carter Vandever

By: Pete Hamot
Assistant Director, Illinois & Wisconsin

The Triad Knights are a talented bunch from top to bottom, and one name that has been on a tear so far this spring for them is catcher Carter Vandever (2024). The uncommitted senior had a dominant week at the plate, going 7-for-17 with four home runs, one double, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored. For his efforts, he has been named this week’s Player of the Week

The highlight of Vandever’s week came in their 19-6 win over Mater Dei, where he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored.

He homered again later in the week against Belleville West, finishing the day 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

He continued to stay productive at the dish throughout the stretch of the week, going 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in a 14-4 win over Fort Zumwalt, and he also added a hit, RBI and two runs scored in a hard-fought loss to Salem 8-6.

The backstop has earned praise from our scouts for his defensive ability, proving to be an advanced receiver with a well above-average arm. His bat has really taken off this spring though, as he’s now hitting .405 on the year with a .757 SLG%, four home runs, and 14 RBIs.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.
