MOKAN Fall ID: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Sunday, October 26th, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, KS to host the annual MOKAN Fall ID. This event was open for all 2026-2029 class members and featured 20+ players from the area.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Shortly after the event, our staff compiled several of the day’s stat leaders inside our traditional ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE

Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts below within these ‘Quick Hits’.

QUICK HITS

+ LHP KJ McGill (Bishop Carroll (KS), 2027) emerged from this event as a must-see arm on the mound this spring for the Golden Eagles. Long and lean at 6-foot-4, 155 pounds, McGill filled up the zone with a four-pitch mix from a loose, easy arm action and low three-quarter slot. He generated effortless velocity, running his fastball up to an event-best 88.5 mph while sitting 85–88 mph with 2,400+ RPM and -17.6 inches of arm-side action on average. Off that, he spun two distinct breaking balls — a 69–73 mph curveball with 2,400+ RPM and a tight 73–74 mph slider at 2,500+ RPM, landing both for strikes. He also turned over a 76–80 mph changeup with heavy arm-side fade and flashed a 79–80 mph cutter. With plenty of projection and an advanced feel for his full arsenal, McGill looks poised for a breakout spring and is a name to circle in the Kansas junior class.

+ RHP Garrett George (Lee’s Summit, 2027) impressed our staff, flashing swing-and-miss stuff throughout his bullpen on Sunday. Using a 6-foot, 180-pound frame, George worked in the mid-80s, topping at 85.9 mph with more velocity likely to come. His most impressive offering was a 73–75 mph slider, a true swing-and-miss pitch that spun north of 2,500 RPM with -17.8 inches of average horizontal movement, peaking at -20.4 inches, giving it clear potential at the next-level. He rounded out his arsenal with a 75–78 mph changeup that he effectively killed spin on (949 avg. RPM), further emerging as an intriguing junior arm to follow.

+ Sunday's trip to Warrensburg gave our staff another look at OF Brandon Wilson Jr. (Staley, 2027), who saw an uptick in his metrics across the board since our last look in February. The physical 6-foot, 187-pound junior swung a strong right-handed bat, barreling his best ball at 92.9 mph—a 7+ mph jump from his previous event—with signs that more is still to come. Wilson Jr. also topped at 77 mph from the outfield and ran a 7.00 60, as he continues to trend upward and round out his game.

+ OF Ethan Epema (Summit Christian, 2027) produced one of the better rounds of BP at the event, finding himself near the top of several hitting leaderboards. The right-handed hitter consistently found the barrel from a quick (70.7 mph peak bat speed), level swing, repeating elevated contact back through the middle of the field. Epema barreled his best ball at 91 mph and averaged 86.2 mph per batted ball, showcasing one of the more impressive offensive showings of the day.

+ C Davin Koontz (Leavenworth (KS), 2028) was an underclass standout from Sunday’s trip to Warrensburg. Koontz played with confidence and poise throughout the day, showcasing a demeanor well-suited for the catching position. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound sophomore showed big jumps across the board as he continues to fill out his frame, consistently popping between 1.97–2.09 with a 76 mph arm from behind the plate. Offensively, Koontz swung a left-handed barrel that stayed long through the zone, peaking at 89.4 mph exit velocity.
