Power Rankings: 2028 Outfielders

Cooper Trinkle
Scouting Director

As we lead up to our end of year update, our staff hints at impending moves with the release of our position rankings for each position in the class as our board stands at the conclusion of the fall. We remain excited about this class, with some of the largest contigent of high-end depth that we've seen a class boast on both sides of the ball at this age.

We began with our top ten corner infielders in the sophomore class, found here.

We pick back up with our top 15 outfielders in the class, the deepest position player group we have to my evaluations. This group includes four nationally ranked players, with several more on their heels that we remain excited about.

Player Reports

Canyon Koonce OF / Brownsburg High School, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: True CF type profile, L/L, 6-foot, 160-pounder.  Elite bat-to-ball abilities & swing decisions while already establishing a high-level track record in-game. Stepped into stiff 4A competiton as a freshman and was one of the league leaders in hitting. Silky stroke works on-plane throughout - very, very little swing and miss in his game. Plus runner with a chance to be double down the road. Sneaky power potential, already reaches a rounded peak exit velocity of 97 mph during his freshman summer.

+ Key Metrics: 96.8 mph peak exit velocity, 6.56 60-yard dash, 1.55 10-yard split, 81 mph OF arm.

Mason Biernacki OF / Penn High School, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: One of the top in-game hitters in the class, Biernacki has done nothing but barrel baseballs in our looks since he was a 7th grader. Highest-end athlete who is also putting together an outstanding season as a WR for Penn HS. Ball-hawking skills translate to CF, chance to be a plus defender there. 5-tool type player with an athletic, explosive 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame & some of the best collection of metrics in the class. Aggressive.

+ Key Metrics: 100.3 mph peak exit velocity, 6.61 60-yard dash, 92 mph outfield arm, 85 mph fastball, 1.55 10-yard split, 72.7 mph average bat speed.

Andrew Noble OF / Westfield, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Three sport athlete that continues to cement himself amongst this elite group of outfielders. Plenty of physical strength to the explosive, 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Plus runner with a chance for double down the road. The hit tool is his best tool (aside from the feet). Deploys a short, accurate stroke from the left-side with true ability to use the entire field.

+ Key Metrics: 94.3 mph peak exit velocity, 6.52 60-yard dash, 82 mph OF arm, 1.57 10-yard split.

Hayden Zellers OF / Greenfield-Central High School, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Silky mover with still plenty of room to add strength to the 6-foot, 160-pound frame. Excellent swing mechanics / bat path allows for him to use the whole field with backspin. Some innate bat-to-ball abilities. Chance for plus run times down the road with more power on the way, likely.

+ Key Metrics: 93.2 mph peak exit velocity, 6.82 60-yard dash, 83 mph outfield arm.

Jacob Forystek OF / Lake Central, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Uber-aggressive, athletic, 5-foot-10, 165-pound LHH OF. Heavier forward move, but mitigates with an on-plane turn and plenty of rotational quickness. Body control stands out in all facets. Easy above average runner with a chance for the arm to be a plus down the road. Will be a priority follow for our staff in 2026...

+ Key Metrics: 94.2 mph peak exit velocity, 7.03 60-yard dash, 89 mph outfield arm.

Leon Torres OF / Andrean, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Passes the eye test with flying colors with a pristine, 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame that holds premier projections. Chance for big time power down the road with easy power produced from the longer-levered frame. Above average athlete that does play above his run times in CF. "Pick-to-click" type prospect for 2026...

+ Key Metrics: 95.4 mph exit velocity, 84 mph OF arm, 7.37 60-yard dash.

Caleb Wilson OF / 2B / Crown Point High School, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Strong offensive profile carries the LHH, who has a chance to breakout for a Crown Point club that likely begins the spring as one of the top-ranked 4A teams in the state. Barrel feel stands out with quality path that optimizes hard contact. Strong follow.

+ Key Metrics: 90.5 mph peak exit velocity, 7.07 60-yard dash, 82 mph outfield arm.

Ben Finney OF / SS / Kouts Middle/High School, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Wiry, athletic, 5-foot-10, 140-pounder with room for growth and serious gamer tendencies. Posted a huge statistical season for 1A State Runner-Ups as a freshman. Excellent movement patterns and defensive versatility help to mitigate the undersized R/R tag. Right-handed swing works on-plane, with a well-above average arm that plays from multiple positions.

+ Key Metrics: 92.2 mph peak exit velocity, 7.00 60-yard dash, 88 mph OF arm, 86 mph infield arm.

Mitchell Finelli OF / RHP / Brebeuf Jesuit Prep, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Easy projections to the 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame that still has 30-plus pounds of strength to be packed on. Loose, flatter path with some ability to leverage pull-side. Above average tools across the board. Chance to jump the board with continued physical development, likely to make a big impact for Brebeuf this spring. Holds upside on the bump, as well.

+ Key Metrics: 91.6 mph peak exit velocity, 7.17 60-yard dash, 86 mph outfield arm.

Colton Shipp OF / Whiteland Community, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Strong offensive abilities carry the profile as Shipp made an impact with the bat for Whiteland as a freshman, along with showing his tool at each stop on the circuit last summer. Stocky, 6-foot, 190-pounder with hit/power blend and a chance for the barrel to grow into further heaviness.

+ Key Metrics: 93.9 mph peak exit velocity, 7.29 60-yard dash, 84 mph outfield arm, 70+ mph average bat speed at 2/3 events in 2025.

Rayden Morrow OF / R Nelson Snider High School, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Physical, 6-foot-2, 182-pounder who had a breakout showing at our Fall State Games in 2025. Some rawness to the overall actions, but some real thunder to the barrel with triple digit exit velocities. Speed/power traits. Priority follow from Fort Wayne for 2026 with a chance to polish and make jumps.

+ Key Metrics: 100.3 mph exit velocity, 6.71 60-yard dash, 76.1 mph average bat speed.

Beckett Reaume OF / Valparaiso High School, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Physical, 6-foot-3, 190-pounder with power potential from the right-side of the box. Flashes pull-side power already with strong wrists and out-front path. Chance for speed/power combo. Controls the zone well with limited swing&miss/chase in my evaluations to date.

+ Key Metrics: 97.1 mph peak exit velocity, 7.14 60-yard dash, 84 mph outfield arm.

Tavian Trotter OF / Homeschool (IN), IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Exceptional athlete that really looks the part as he glides in CF. Muscular, athletic, 6-foot-1, 200-pound with well-above average run and throw tools. Provides advanced raw power for the class with a chance to polish into more offensive impact.

+ Key Metrics: 97.2 mph peak exit velocity, 6.84 60-yard dash, 87 mph outfield arm, 71.3 mph average bat speed.

BRODY DRAKE LHP / OF / Center Grove, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Set to jump in a major fashion within our overall rankings, but more for his abilities on the mound as one of the better southpaws we've seen in this class. Regardless, holds some two-way upside with athletic L/L CF profile on the offensive side. Compact athleticism to the 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Tighter, high handset at launch before quick hands deliver the barrel on a more downhill path. Line drive type hitter that projects to be a plus runner at some point in his high school career.

+ Key Metrics: 94.3 mph peak exit velocity, 6.70 60-yard dash, 85 mph outfield arm, 70+ mph bat speed in both showcases he attended in 2025.

Garrett Deuser C / OF / Madison, IN / 2028

+ Quick Overview: Listed as a primary backstop, but our staff values the bat strength that the LHH brings as our No. 15 ranked OF in our looming update. Big strength in the 5-foot-11, 200-pound frame that translates to triple digit showcase exits. Our staff saw him hit throughout the circuit with a more pull-side approach deployed from a rotational stroke. Easy average to better footspeed. Profiles as a power hitting corner OF with a chance to run, while defensive refinements could polish the abilities behind the dish to give him a chance there.

+ Key Metrics: 100.6 mph peak exit velocity, 7.17 60-yard dash, 83 mph outfield arm.
