Mississippi Top Prospect Underclass Showcase: Quick Hits

STARKVILLE, MS — The Mississippi Top Prospect Underclass Showcase was held on Saturday, October 11th at Mississippi State University that featured top talent from the 2028-2029 classes. Players went through a pro-style workout with TrackMan, while pitchers threw in a bullpen setting and were able to get data and metrics on our TrackMan unit.
Some prospects built on past showings, while others made strong first impressions.

Pryce Pinkins 1B / RHP / Oxford High School, MS / 2028Pinkins made a strong impression in our first look at him, showcasing a well-proportioned, physical frame with plenty of strength throughout. At the plate, he flashed pull-side power with natural loft in the swing, highlighted by a 99 mph exit velocity. There’s more power to project as he continues to refine his approach. On the mound, Pinkins worked up to 86 mph, showing a clean arm action with developing feel for secondary offerings. While still raw, the foundation is there for continued growth on the bump. He moves well for his size, posting a 7.22 in the 60-yard dash, indicating above-average athleticism for his frame. Pinkins is a high-upside prospect to keep close tabs on moving into the spring.

Eli Roye RHP / OF / Lewisburg, MS / 2029Roye is a very exciting young arm to follow with clear indicators of more to come. He sports a wiry, projectable build and works with a loose, whippy arm action that suggests significant velocity gains are on the horizon. Currently up to 79 mph, but it’s easy to envision a jump as he adds strength. He shows a solid feel for a three-pitch mix, including a fastball, a developing slider with shape, and a changeup he can land for strikes. With a big year of physical development ahead, Roye has the foundation and arm action that could make him a major riser in the coming months. |

Tucker Elliott OF / LHP / Myrtle Attendance Center, MS / 2029Elliot is a lanky-framed lefty with some deception in his delivery and subtle whip in the arm action. A former Junior Future Gamer in Atlanta, he brings a competitive edge and fairly polished look on the mound. The fastball touches 83 mph and pairs well with a standout changeup that mirrors the fastball with arm speed and fade. He also mixes in both a slider and a curveball, giving him a true four-pitch arsenal. While the command is still developing, the foundation is in place for him to be a tough matchup moving forward. He should play big in the Hawks plans for another deep playoff run in 2026. |

Jaxon Herod SS / 3B / West Union Attendance Center, MS / 2028Herod brings an athletic, wiry frame with plenty of room to continue filling out, and that should be a concern for opposing teams. He already shows an advanced toolset, with plus speed for his age (6.78 60) and a strong, accurate arm that’s been up to 93 mph across the infield. At the plate, the left handed hitter flashes exit velocities in the low 90s with a mature, gap-to-gap line drive approach. There’s still power to come as he continues to add strength, but the foundation is already in place for a high-impact offensive profile. Herod’s combination of athleticism, arm strength, and offensive upside makes him one of the more exciting young players to follow in this class.

Ethan Killough C / RHP / Kossuth, MS / 2028Killough boasts an athletic 6’2”, 181 pound frame and moves exceptionally well for a catcher, posting a 6.88 60-yard dash — a standout number at the position. Behind the plate, he shows solid catch-and-throw ability with a 1.97 pop time and 78 mph catcher velocity, demonstrating quick feet and clean transfers. Offensively, the left-handed hitter brings real impact to the box. He tied for first at the event with a 103 mph exit velocity, showing true pull-side pop with occasional loft and a consistent middle-to-pull side approach. A rare blend of athleticism and power at a premium position, Killough is a name to circle moving forward.

Case Simmons OF / OF / Brookhaven Academy, MS / 2028Simmons has a long, athletic frame at 6’3”, 175 pounds with plenty of room to fill out. The left-handed hitter already shows pull-side pop, registering a 101 mph exit velocity, and there's more power to come as he continues to mature physically. At times, he gets a bit too deep into his back leg during the swing, but the natural strength and bat speed are evident. He posted a 7.11 60-yard dash, with developing speed that could tick up with added strength. In the outfield, his arm is serviceable at 81 mph, and should improve as he adds maturity. With his frame, left-handed power, and athletic foundation, Simmons is a high-upside prospect and definitely one to watch closely in the coming seasons.

Parker Hawkins OF / OF / Sumrall, MS / 2028Hawkins continues to impress with steady progress, and he put together one of the best overall showings at the event. The lean, athletic 6’2” frame projects well, and his tools are beginning to come together in a big way. He turned in a blazing 6.65 60-yard dash, showcasing top-end speed that plays in all facets of the game. Offensively, Hawkins is a switch hitter with a line drive approach and up to 103 mph exit velocity. He’s currently more polished from the left side, showing better rhythm and barrel control, but flashes upside from both sides of the plate. In the outfield, he recorded an 83 mph arm, and continues to make strides defensively. Hawkins took a big step forward on Saturday, and with his speed, athleticism, and switch-hit ability, he's a must-follow moving forward.

Seth Welch OF / 1B / Hamilton, MS / 2028Welch may have a smaller frame, but he brings big-time energy and tools to the field. With a 6.44 60-yard dash, he recorded the fastest time at the event, and that speed plays in-game with quick first steps and aggressive instincts. At the plate, the right-handed hitter shows surprising strength with pull-side pop and a peak exit velocity of 96.3 mph. He brings a spark to both sides of the ball, a true gamer who competes with confidence and plays fast. Welch’s elite speed and gritty style make him a fun player to watch and a name to keep close tabs on moving forward.

Walker Bradford SS / RHP / Central Hinds Academy, MS / 2028Bradford stands out with a long, wiry frame that’s still filling out, making his current stuff even more intriguing. His fastball topped at 80 mph, with clear signs that more velocity is on the way as he adds strength. What really separates Bradford is his feel for a full four-pitch mix, fastball, changeup, slider, and curveball, each showing advanced action and strong underlying metrics. His ability to manipulate the baseball and command multiple shapes gives him a mature approach well beyond his years. With a projectable frame, developing velocity, and advanced pitchability, Bradford is a must-follow arm moving forward. |

William Howell OF / RHP / Clinton, MS / 2029Howell features a long, wiry frame with plenty of physical projection, and the early signs on the mound are highly promising. He ran his fastball up to 85 mph with natural arm-side life, and there’s much more in the tank as he continues to mature. He’s showing a developing curveball with solid tumbling action, and already uses his leverage and length well. With his frame, arm action, and early feel, Howell has all the ingredients to emerge as a premier arm in his class. Definitely a high-upside arm to follow closely. |

Lanston Kent RHP / SS / Saltillo, MS / 2028Kent is a fun to watch arm with a projectable 5’11”, 165-pound frame and a competitive edge on the mound. He throws with confidence and conviction, attacking hitters with a fastball up to 87 mph (which was the event high) that jumps out of the hand and gets on hitters quickly. His tight slider shows sharp, late bite, serving as a true out-pitch, and he’s working in a developing changeup to round out the arsenal. With his arm speed, feel, and frame, Kent brings plenty of upside and is a name to watch as he continues to develop. |

Rilyn Lambert 3B / RHP / New Site High School, MS / 2028Lambert brings a sturdy, physical frame with tools on both sides of the ball and clear upside. At the plate, he shows big-time pull-side power, reaching a 101 mph exit velocity, and consistently impacts the ball with authority. The raw strength is there, and with continued focus on his body, he has the potential to become a premium power bat in the class. Defensively, he’s a developing infielder with improving footwork and feel, and on the mound, he’s shown intriguing two-way potential. His fastball reaches 85 mph with arm-side run, and he’s beginning to show feel for developing secondary offerings. Lambert’s strength, power profile, and arm talent make him a compelling two-way follow with plenty of ceiling.

Kolton Beard 3B / RHP / Harrison Central, MS / 2028Beard features a solid, durable frame and shows tools on both sides of the ball that make him an intriguing dual prospect. On the mound, he flashes a plus arm, running the fastball up to 84 mph with natural arm-side run. He shows advanced feel for a low-spin changeup he can land for strikes and mixes in two breaking balls (slider and curveball) that currently show similar shape but offer a solid foundation to build from. At the plate, the right-handed hitter swings with intent, showing a pull-side approach and 93 mph exit velocity, hinting that there may be some possible power potential as he continues to refine his offensive game. With his present strength, arm talent, and offensive tools, Beard is definitely a name to keep an eye on moving forward. |

Nelson Irving 2B / SS / Germantown, MS / 2028Irving brings a lean, athletic build with intriguing upside on both sides of the ball. He showed well across the board, starting with a 7.15 60-yard dash and a polished look in the infield, where he displays clean footwork, smooth actions, and confident hands. At the plate, the right-handed hitter has a line drive approach with barrel consistency and sneaky strength, registering a 92 mph exit velocity. He controls the barrel well and projects for more as he adds strength. On the mound, Irving reached 85 mph with the fastball, and showed feel for a tight-spinning slider, a developing curveball, and a low-spin changeup he uses effectively. His four-pitch mix and clean arm action make him a legitimate two-way follow with considerable projection ahead. |

Kaysen Wiggins C / SS / Lewisburg, MS / 2029Wiggins brings a projectable build and a gritty, high-IQ style of play that makes him a coach’s dream. A former Junior Future Games participant, he continues to show why he's one of the more advanced young prospects in the class. Offensively, Wiggins boasts one of the best approaches we've seen at his age — disciplined, confident, and mature. He uses the whole field with a consistent line drive approach, and already produces exit velocities up to 94 mph. A true two-position defender, he’s a polished infielder with clean actions and instincts, but also shines behind the plate with a 1.88 pop time, showing versatility and value. With 6.82 speed, a high baseball IQ, and polish beyond his years, Wiggins is a high-ceiling gamer who continues to impress every time out. |

Drew Stanton C / 3B / Myrtle Attendance Center, MS / 2028One of the top catching prospects in his class, Stanton boasts a well-built, durable frame ideal for the position. Offensively, he profiles as a middle-of-the-order bat with major power potential. He generates impressive bat speed and consistently barrels balls with authority, recording a 101 mph exit velocity. Primarily utilizes a pull-side approach, but shows the ability to drive the ball the other way, indicating advanced strength and barrel control. Behind the plate, Stanton is solid defensively with a quick release and efficient footwork. He posted a 1.90 pop timewith 77 mph arm strength, showing the tools to control the running game. Moves well for his size, clocking a 7.23 60-yard dash, which is serviceable for a catcher of his build.
