South TX Scout Day: Quick Hits

On Saturday, October 11th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, TX, to host the South Texas Scout Day.
Nearly 100 players made their way to Calallen HS this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.
We have already released a Statistical Analysis for the event, that highlighted the top statistical performers. Today, we will provide our scouting takeaways on the event's top performers.
QUICK HITS
Luis Cienfuegos | C | Sharyland | 2026 | R/R
Cienfuegos really has the ability to throw the baseball. Good arm with carry to his ball. Pop times were 1.87-1.94 and threw a runner out in the game at 2.09. Received the ball well. Solid hitter at the plate. He has quick hands and G2G pop. The bat speed is present. In game 2B down the left field line. Will be a good get for the right program.
Julian Colsa | OF | Veterans Memorial | 2026 | R/R | 5’7” 155
In the OF, Colsa is an athletic mover with a solid arm. Ran a 6.73 60 as well. Accurate throws with a compact arm path and quick release. Standing at 5 ‘7 and 155 lbs, he has quick hands at the plate with sneaky juice. Solid AB’s in game with a base hit to the left side.
Aayden Colsa | SS | Veterans Memorial | 2026 | R/R
Aayden shows really well on the dirt and takes pride in his defense. He has good footwork and solid angles. Shows carry on his ball, with a quick arm action, and threw 84 across the diamond. At the plate, Colsa has a balanced approach with quick hands. Contact over power.
Jaime Cordova | RHP | La Joya Palmview | 2026 | R/R | 6’0” 205
Cordova has a solid build/frame, standing at 6 ‘0 205 lbs. With a small rock step and high leg lift, he has a compact arm path and shows arm speed. FB sat 87- 88 and had 21 IVB. His two seam has some ASR and sink. The SL sat 77-78 and had sweeping action when his hand stayed on top of ball. CH sat 77-78 with some sink. Plenty of upside.
Dallin DeBellas | C | Calallen | 2026 | R/R | 5’8” 170
Standing at 5 ‘8 and 170 lbs, DeBellas showed well behind the plate with real ability to throw the baseball. Threw 1.97-2.02 pop at 81mph. Clean stroke and ball has carry. Solid receiver with soft hands and quiet presence. In game, he had quality AB’s with lots of loud barrels. Base hit single through the left side as well. Good overall mover (ran a 7.05 60).
John Reyna | RHP | PSJA Early College | 2027 | R/R | 6’1” 205
Reyna is put together well with a 6 ‘1 205 lbs frame. He’s got an athletic arm with a H3/4 slot and has command of all pitches. FB sat 87-88 and T89 with some late life. CB has good spin (1-7 axis) with feel and sat 76-78. Throws SL at 80-82 and CU at 84. SL is a two plane pitch and CU has good velo with sweep action. SPL sat 75-77 with down action and tumble. Ton of upside on this strike thrower who has the ability to change speeds.
Nicolas Valdez | OF | Sharyland | 2026 | R/R
Valdez is an athletic mover running his 60 time at 6.60. Shows range and mobility in the OF with arm speed present. Topped at 87 from LF to home. At the plate, he has quick hands with a balanced swing (90 exit velo). G2G approach with contact over power.
Dylan Arriaga | LHP | Sinton | 2027 | L/L
Arriaga sat 86-87 with his FB from the left side and had some ASR when down in zone. He has an athletic arm with a repeatable delivery. His best off speed pitch is the CH which sat 82-83. Good/late action with ASR. Really sells the CH and plays well off FB. CB shows good spin with ability to sharpen in future. A projectable arm with a plus CH.
Joshua Benitez | RHP | Bishop | 2027 | R/R
Benitez is a solid righty arm that sat 84-86 and T87. Has really good tempo to his delivery with a H3/4 slot. Four seam FB was between 19-21 IVB. Passed the eye test with good ride and tilt to ball. His breaking ball has good rotation and sat 71-72.
Niko Caballero | SS | Carroll | 2028 | R/R
Caballero showed well on both sides of the ball. At SS he has really good actions with good feet and a solid arm. Game presence was very mature for his age group. Finds himself in the right position most of the time. Good Defender. At the plate, he has quick hands and G2G pop. Had good AB’s all day by staying inside the ball and finding barrels. Caballero will be a fun follow these next few years.
Aaron Castillo | C/RHP | WB Ray | 2028 | L/R | 6’0” 230
Castillo is a big physical player standing at 6 ‘0 230 lbs. Behind the dish he is soft handed with a good arm. Threw 2.03 - 2.09 pop times with some carry to ball. As a LHH, he has some strength and pop to do damage. Swing can get long at times. On the bump, FB sat 80-81 with a quick arm. SL sat 71-73 and CH was 74. A solid/physical player on all sides of the ball. Will only improve with maturity.
Mason Colsa | SS | Veterans Memorial | 2028 | R/R
Mason showed the ability to really defend it. He has quick feet and solid angles. The glove action is smooth. Arm strength was present and has carry on his ball. Made a sliding play up the middle with a quick pop up to throw a guy out in the game. Good defender. At the plate, Colsa has a balanced swing with quick twitch hands. Contact over power. Projects to be a singles/doubles hitter, with high on base, and able to win games with his glove.
Eli Romero | INF | Calallen | 2028 | L/R | 5’7” 175
As a LHH, Romero has a short/quick stroke with the ability to go line to line with the ball. At 5 ‘7 175 lbs, he is strong for his age group. Has a feel in the box and there is some bat to ball skill. In the infield, he has pretty good footwork. Not a rangy player, but catches everything in his area and puts it in the air with accuracy. A solid all around player.
Daxton Williams | C/INF/RHP | London | 2028 | R/R | 6’2” 180
A great build/frame standing at 6 ‘2 and 180 lbs. On the dirt, he is an athletic mover with a plus arm. His feet work well and his transfers are quick. At the plate, Williams is a G2G guy with quick hands and bat speed present. Added strength will deliver more extra base hit style pop. On the mound, FB sat 82-84 and T85 with late life and some ASR. His SL sat 71-73 with up to -20 HM. Big time movement (sweep) on a plus pitch. Huge upside and projectability.
Noah Romero | OF/LHP | Calallen | 2030 | L/L
Romero’s biggest weapons are his arm strength and hit ability. From the OF, he topped 84 mph with an athletic arm path and quick release. As a LHH, he has quick hands with some pop. Quiet swing with the ability to get the barrel out. Put together good AB’s during the game. On the mound, FB sat 78-80 with ASR. CB sat 68-70 with good spin and feel. His best secondary pitch is his CH which sat 72-73 and has -19 HM. Plus pitch. Strike thrower, with ability to put guys away. Romero has a good personality and likes to play.
Colton Denver | OF | London | 2029 | R/R | 6’2” 168
Denver is an athletic player with some big upside. Ran a 6.99 60 time, has a solid arm throwing 74 from the OF, and quick hands at the plate. Stands at 6 ‘2 and 168 lbs and showed well in game. Athleticism and ability will continue to improve as he grows into his body. Very projectable player.
Jacoby Gomez | C | WB Ray | 2029 | R/R | 5’8” 223
Gomez is a strong player standing at 5’ 8 and 223 lbs. Receives well behind the dish with some ability to block. 2.08-2.25 pop times while topping 72 mph. An accurate thrower to the bags with a quick release. At the plate, he has the ability to drive balls in both gaps with some pop. Can get lengthy at times, but the short stroke is in there.
Blake Quinn | 1B | Calallen | 2026 | L/L | 6’6” 230
Quinn is a physical player who stands at 6 ‘6 and 230 lbs. For his size, he’s a pretty good mover. Ran a 7.33 in the 60 and showed foot speed and agility at 1B. A solid arm throwing 86 across the diamond, but also showed the ability to make a short throw with quick release on double play turns. His biggest attribute is his ability to hit. Uses his hands well and can turn the barrel out. Stays inside the baseball and lives in the left center gap. Shows ability to pull the baseball with backspin as well. Has good pop in the bat and seems to handle velo. Blake will be a good get for the right program.
