On Sunday, October 5th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Willis High School in Willis, TX, to host the Houston Freshman Free Showcase, an open event for the class of 2029.

More than 25 players made their way to Willis High School this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

We have already released a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting the top performers in the more traditional stat categories. Today, we will provide takeaways on the prospects that caught our scouting staff's attention throughout the event.

QUICK HITS

Damien Barrabi | OF/RHP | Jordan | 2029 | L/R

Athletic player with quick feet and clean actions in the outfield. Arm strength and accuracy both present. As a LHH, shows quick hands and gap-to-gap pop. Starts with hands high and drives the baseball well when synced up. On the mound, repeats a simple, athletic delivery. FB sat 77–79 mph with more in the tank. CB 61–62 and CH 68–69 with ASR. Projectable two-way with natural athleticism and upside.


Royce Carr | SS | Glenda Dawson | 2029 | R/R

Carr has the frame and build to become a physical player as he matures. At the plate, shows barrel control and quick hands with strength developing in the swing. Defensively, has fluid feet and good glove actions with arm speed that projects. Balanced, young infielder with upside and room to grow.


Tanner Modesette | SS/3B | Elgin | 2029 | R/R

Natural bat-to-ball ability with the knack for getting the barrel out consistently. Balanced at the plate with good hand speed and rhythm. Added strength will elevate his offensive impact. Solid footwork and angles in the infield with the arm strength to stay on the left side. Polished, instinctive player with a hitter’s feel.


Noah Williams | OF/3B/RHP | Episcopal | 2029 | R/R

Advanced physicality for his age with athletic actions across the field. Moves well in both the infield and outfield with a quick arm and carry on throws. Mature approach at the plate—stays inside the baseball with hand speed and juice in the barrel. Middle-of-the-order potential. On the mound, sat 79–81 mph, T82 with 19 IVB. SL 66–67 with up to –20 horizontal break; CH 72–73 with ASR. Two-way talent with strong projection on both sides.


David Williams | OF/RHP | Cypress Woods | 2029 | R/R

Strong, athletic 6’2” 180 lb frame with plenty of projection. Rangy defender with advanced arm strength and carry from the outfield. Offensively shows quick hands, bat speed, and gap-to-gap power that projects to more. On the mound, sat 83–85, T86 with late life. Breaking ball showed slurvy shape (64 mph) with depth improving as it firms. Slider 68–69 with sweeping action. High-upside athlete with loud tools and future impact potential.


Chance Allen | 1B/OF | Lake Creek | 2029 | R/R

Big offensive upside and strong arm strength. Feet and hands work defensively but will smooth out with maturity. At the plate, shows easy plus raw power with whip and leverage through contact. Drives balls to all parts of the field with carry—even mishits travel far. Middle-of-the-order offensive projection.


Brooks Jacob | SS | Episcopal | 2029 | L/L

Instinctive defender with fluid actions on the dirt. Feet move well, creating good angles to the baseball. Soft hands and developing arm strength that will continue to climb. As a LHH, has quick hands and a balanced swing with consistent barrel contact and gap-to-gap power. Stays through the middle of the field. Fundamentally sound player with polish and projection.


Jack Roberts | RHP | Lake Creek | 2029 | R/R

Athletic right-hander with a controlled side rock step, high leg lift, and slight coil. Works from a three-quarter slot with a FB at 78–80 mph showing ASR. SL 67–70 with –19 to –23 horizontal movement; CH 71–72 with fade. Strike thrower with feel for all three pitches and nothing straight. SL is a swing-and-miss weapon he can land in any count. Competitive presence on the mound with pitchability and poise.
