The 14th annual Future Games took place on July 22-27 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. Top uncommitted prospects in the classes of 2026 and 2027 participated in one of the most popular events each year.

For the first time ever, the state of California brought two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal.

We caught up with some of the state's standout performers to hear about their highlights on the weekend, overall experience at LakePoint, and what their recruitment process has looked like since the August 1st deadline has been reached.

J Beckett Berg, 2027, RHP, Notre Dame

This season for Notre Dame, Berg fanned 28 batters across 34 innings, while only allowing 12 runs. Controlling batters is a strong point of Berg’s game, only allowing six free passes while facing 155 batters.

Prep Baseball CA: Assess your performance at this year's Future Games.
Berg: "I couldn't have performed the way I did without the defense behind me. If it wasn't for them making those plays, my performance would not have been as strong as it was."
Prep Baseball CA: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
Berg: "The competion was crazy. Both Texas teams had arms that were lights out and they can really hit. Texas was ready to come out to play. The NorCal guys were great as well. Baseball runs deep in California and it was fun to play some familiar faces. It was super cool to see how the play styles are different between teams that come frome different parts of the country."
Prep Baseball CA: What was it like seeing all of the college coaches/scouts for the first time?
Berg: "It was breathtaking. Getting there on the first day and seeing scouts left and right is insane. It was the most scouts I have seen in one place at one time. They had everyone there from what felt like every school. It was crazy."
Prep Baseball CA: What adivce would you give to a player who will be at Future Games next summer?

Berg: "I'd tell them to take a few deep breaths and focus on the game. It is all about being prepared in the moment and reminding yourself that it is just another game."

Prep Baseball CA: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?

Berg: "It has completely taken off since my weekend at LakePoint for the Future Games. If I did not have the performance I had, I would not be where I am today. I would not have heard from schools I never had thought I would hear from and it's been super crazy and emotional since the deadline. It is all settling in that the future I always dreamed of is becoming a reality."

On September 8th, Berg took to social media to announce his commitment to the University of Texas.

Prep Baseball CA: What was it like playing alongside Ira Rootman on Team SoCal, a hitter who plays for your school's biggest rival?

Berg: "It's defineitley better having the "Red Panther" on your side. It's been awesome spending time with him and watching his journey. All it does is make the rivalry a little bit more personal. We are both strong competitors and I am excited for the three game series against Harvard-Westlake."

Berg, the No. 9 ranked player in the country in the Class of 2027, hopes to continue to shine on the mound for Notre Dame, and will continue his pitching journey at the collegiate level as a Longhorn.
