LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - This past weekend the Prep Baseball West Region staff hosted the West Coast Games at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. This was an invite-only event for high school classes (2026-2027), and hosted the best uncommitted prospects from the West Region that have been identified by each of the state's scouting directors. The event was comprised of teams/players from Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

14 players from California made their way to the West Coast Games and participated in a pro-style workout, followed by three 7-inning games taken place at both Loyola Marymount and Mira Costa High School.

Today, we will be looking at the standout performers from the gameplay portion of the event, found below.

GAMEPLAY: TOP PERFORMERS

Wylan Rottschafer SS / RHP / Costa Mesa High, CA / 2026

Rottschafer put together a standout weekend, collecting multiple barrels across three games while flashing premium defensive versatility and instincts. He made two highlight-reel plays on the infield, first being a backhand sliding stop at SS with a quick glove to hand transfer, throwing a strike to first, and later a full-extension forehand diving play at 1B to take away a hit. Nearly added a third to his highlight-reel with a sliding effort on a GB up the middle at 2B but the runner beat the throw to first. On the mound, he showed a live arm and a clear reliever profile, sitting 87-88 mph (2000+ spin) with his fastball and 75-76 mph (2300+ spin) on a sharp slider that produced six whiffs in just one inning of work. Finished with two strikeouts and a groundout, attacking hitters aggressively, working quick, and changing eye levels effectively. You can stick Rottschafer anywhere on the diamond and he will find a way to succeed. He plays the game right way and does everything well in every aspect, which makes him one of the best remaining 2026 uncommitted players in all of California.

Ryan Talley OF / RHP / Royal, CA / 2026

Talley put his standout athleticism and foot speed on full display over the weekend, collecting three hits and impacting the game in multiple ways. He ripped an RBI single to right field on a barreled line drive, but even more impressive showed off his explosiveness out of the box with an infield single clocked at 4.25 down the line and a perfectly executed bunt single at an eye-popping 3.90 home-to-first. His speed consistently applied pressure on defenses and turned routine plays into chaos. Talley knows his speed can really impact the game and his ability to consistently put the bat on the ball plays right into his very intriguing top of the order/run profile. To quote both Les Lukach and Steven Hardesty from this weekend about Talley and his performance, "Speed never slumps".

London Anderson OF / Bakersfield Christian High School, CA / 2026

Anderson was one of the most dynamic players on display all weekend, collecting four hits, including two doubles and a triple, while showcasing his well-rounded, high-upside skill set. He creates tight turns in the box with quick hand and bat speed, consistently driving the ball to all fields. His plus foot speed stood out both on the bases and in the outfield, where his range and athleticism point to a true CF profile long term. He swiped two bases (one to second and one to third) and was clocked at 4.4 seconds rounding first on a single. Anderson’s performance solidified his status as one of the more intriguing and projectable players of the remaining uncommitted 2026 outfielders in the state. A name that’s only going to keep trending upward.

Emmett Maloney RHP / SS / Mira Costa High, CA / 2027

Maloney took full advantage of pitching on his home turf at Mira Costa, turning in a quality outing on the final day of the West Coast Games. The 6-1, long levered righty, filled up the zone with strikes, working efficiently and mixing eye levels to keep hitters off balance. His fastball sat 86-87 mph, complemented by a 75-76 mph curveball that he landed consistently for strikes. Maloney’s command and tempo stood out as he cruised through 3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, no runs, and recording 4 strikeouts with just 1 walk. The body and make up give reasons to like Maloney as a potential starter profile later down the line and his tall, 165-pound frame indicate there is plenty room to fill in the future. A strong, polished showing from a 2027 arm that entered this weekend as an under the radar prospect but left making a strong impression.

Trevor Chang SS / OF / Calabasas High, CA / 2027

The Calabasas product had a strong weekend, collecting three hits, including two doubles to the LCF gap that showcased emerging pull-side pop. He added a single to center, rounding out a consistent offensive showing across three games. The 5-11, 148-pound prospect displayed noticeable improvement in his at-bats as the weekend progressed, looking increasingly confident and competitive in the box. Defensively, Chang handled multiple positions comfortably, showing athleticism and versatility. With his wiry frame and developing strength, there’s real upside in the bat as he continues to mature, with an already impressive speed foundation in his game as he is a 6.86 runner and a potential stolen base threat each time he gets on. The long term make up is what is most intriguing with Chang as he is indeed an unfinished product.
