East Coast Sox Scout Day: Quick Hits

BOONEVILLE, MS - The East Coast Sox continued their fall with a Prep Baseball Scout Day at Northeast Mississippi CC on Sunday, November 2nd. Several players went through the pro-style workout and there were several players that impressed at the different stations of the showcase. 

Today, we are going to be looking at the some of thet top performers from the East Coast Sox Scout Day.

Alexander Orman SS / C / Saltillo, MS / 2028

Lean, wiry 6’1”, 150-pound frame with projection. Loose, whippy arm action on the mound with a fastball up to 86 mph with life. Shows advanced feel for a fading changeup and developing secondary mix. Athletic two-way prospect with smooth defensive actions both infield and outfield. Offensively shows a line-drive approach to the middle and pull side with barrel control and emerging strength. Major upside as he continues to mature physically.

Daniel Hopper OF / RHP / Grenada, MS / 2027

Wiry, athletic frame with room for added strength. Shows advanced bat speed with exit velocities up to 98.1 mph, consistently producing hard line drives with occasional loft that hints at emerging power potential. Smooth, efficient swing path with strong barrel control. In the outfield, the 6’1”, 180 pound Hopper flashes a plus arm, touching 90 mph on throws with good carry and accuracy. Moves well defensively, showing good reads and instincts. Runs a 7.00 60-yard dash, playing faster in game situations due to strong instincts and jumps. On the mound, operates in the mid-80s with his fastball, showing feel for spin and a developing off-speed arsenal. Overall, a high-upside, two-way talent with projection remaining.

Landon Evans OF / 1B / New Albany, MS / 2027

Evans, at 6’2”, 190 pounds, is a physical and athletic 2027 prospect with a well-rounded toolset and advanced metrics for his age. Shows plus raw power with middle-to-pull side pop, consistently producing loud contact and exit velocities up to 102 mph. Compact, leveraged swing with strength through the zone and the ability to drive the baseball with carry. Displays sneaky athleticism and above-average speed, posting a 6.68 60-yard dash. Moves well for his size and shows good body control on both sides of the ball. Defensively, profiles as a corner outfielder or first baseman with a solid, accurate arm, up to 84 mph across the infield and 88 mph from the outfield. Overall, Evans is an intriguing two-way corner prospect and outfielder with physical tools, power potential, and athletic ability that stands out in the 2027 class. A high-upside bat to follow closely as he continues to develop.

Eli Quinley C / 2B / Faith Academy, AL / 2027

The 5”10”, 195 pound Quinley is a strong-bodied 2027 prospect with an advanced physical frame and impressive present strength. Shows quick hands and a compact, powerful swing that produces consistent gap-to-gap contact and exit velocities up to 102 mph. His bat speed and strength translate into legitimate present power with more to project. Defensively, Quinley is solid behind the plate, displaying a quiet, balanced setup and efficient footwork. Arm strength stands out with 79 mph velocity from the catching position and a 1.94 pop time, showing quick transfer and accuracy. Athletic for his size, he posted a 6.82 60-yard dash, showing versatility and mobility that could also translate well to multiple positions. Well-rounded catching prospect with strength, athleticism, and advanced offensive tools.

Hayden Jones 1B / RHP / Central, AL / 2027

Lean, athletic 6’2”, 200 pound frame with room for added strength. Offensively, shows a pull-side approach with present pop, with a max exit velocity up to 100.4 mph. Creates occasional loft in the swing path with strong barrel awareness and developing ability to drive the ball to all fields. Defensively, a solid defender at first base with good hands and footwork around the bag. On the mound, shows a developing arm with a fastball up to 83 mph, featuring arm-side run. Should continue to make strides in arm strength and command, projecting for additional velocity gains as he matures physically. A projectable two-way prospect in the 2027 class with present strength and offensive upside, paired with developing tools on the mound.

Sam Resch OF / C / Hernando, MS / 2028

The 5’9”, 175 pound Resch features a smaller, athletic frame with impressive tools across the board. He turned in solid batting practice rounds, consistently spraying line drives to all fields with an exit velocity up to 91 mph. His athleticism continues to trend upward, posting a 7.22 in the 60-yard dash and showing accurate throws from the outfield up to 84 mph. Resch looks to play the game with a gritty, high-energy approach and continues to prove himself as a must-see 2028 prospect.

Lanston Kent RHP / SS / Saltillo, MS / 2028

Lanston Kent continues to impress each time out. He features a projectable build with plenty of room to add strength. On the mound, the 5’11”, 165 pounder has been up to 88 mph with his fastball, showing late life and arm-side run. The arm works quick and clean, hinting at more velocity to come. His secondary arsenal is still developing, but the ingredients are there for continued progress. At the plate, Kent also showed intriguing two-way potential, posting an 89.7 mph max exit velocity and delivering two solid rounds of contact. He works with a middle-to-pull-side line drive approach, showing consistent barrel control and feel for the zone. Overall, Kent is an athletic, projectable 2028 prospect with upside on both sides of the ball and the potential to emerge as a legitimate two-way talent as he continues to mature.
