Rising Stars on The Radar: 2028 OF/RHP Braden Cox (Ranney)
October 17, 2025
Cox is a very intriguing two-way prospect that has huge upside on the mound and in the batter’s box. This summer he was a standout player at the East Coast Super Sophomore Games at University of North Carolina. He has a lean, athletic 6 ‘2 and 180-pound frame that contains more room for growth and development physically.
Offensively, Cox has a swing that translates very well into game play. At the ECSSG, he displayed his ability to handle mid to upper 80 mph fastballs and his ability to adjust to high spin sliders in difficult hitting situations. He collected multiple hits during game play including a ground rule double to deep left-center field and a rocket line-drive past a driving third baseman. His hitting metrics include a 94.9 mph peak exit velocity in batting practice, a bat speed of 76.3 mph, and an average exit velocity 89.4 mph.
On the mound, he has a quick, lively arm action that helps produce a fastball that jumps through the strike zone. Cox maintains rhythm and body control while working down the slope with a leg turn towards second base that generates powerful torque. His fastball has peaked at 84.3 mph, and his curveball is 69-72 mph. From the outfield his arm strength has been up to 88 mph, displaying the high-level arm strength potential Cox possesses.
Overall, between Cox’s mechanically polished swing and his high-level arm speed on the mound, he possesses the necessary abilities to be one of the Garden State’s premiere ball players. He is a must-see player going into the next high school season.
