DFW Summer ID - Session 2: Player Analysis

On Sunday, August 17th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Coppell ISD Baseball Complex in Coppell, TX, to host the DFW Summer ID - Session 2, an open event for all high school classes.
More than 20 players made their way to Coppell this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

Today, we take a look at the scouting reports on every player in attendance as well as rank the top 5 from the event.
TOP OVERALL PROSPECTS
1. Dylan Smith, New Diana Middle (TX), 2030
Positional Profile: OF/RHP RHH/INF/OF with a tall, lean build/frame. Fringe plus runner now, projects as plus runner. Develop long toss program to build up arm strength, arm works. Fields out front, eliminate the glove flip. In the outfield, has infield actions when throwing and fielding. Projects as infielder. Good use of lower half, rotates well. Good bat speed present already. With adjustments will firm up contact consistency. Swing to watch develop. RHP...Keep tempo up during delivery. Work to get over front leg. Expect arm speed to increase. Developing velo in FB, has sinking action present. Curve has 12/6 shape, sharp when thrown with intent. Slider has inconsistent release, gets under ball. Tail/sink present, work to keep arm speed the same as throwing a FB.
Body: 6-4, 164 pounds. Tall, lean build/frame. Avg width to shoulders and back. Length to lower half. Look to add necessary strength with future growth and maturity. Good physical projections.
Hit: RHH. High leg lift. Linear movement in back foot. Rolls to side of foot. Stay connected to ground, drive force into ground. Good posture at contact. Hands/barrel start in good position to launch. Hands take solid path to ball. Rotates well with good bat speed present. Some lean back with follow through. 72.7 mph bat speed with 21g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 mph max exit velocity (75.9 avg.); 309-foot max batted distance. Solid bat/power combo in the future. With adjustments has opportunity to keep improving impact on the ball and firm up contact consistency. Swing to watch develop.
Arm: RH. INF - 79 mph. OF - 81 mph. INF...Compact arm action, fair arm speed. Develop long toss program to add to arm strength and speed. OF...infield arm action. Low arc.
Defense: INF...Solid footwork, moves well. Gets glove out front, would like to see glove arrive a bit sooner, work to eliminate glove flip. OF...Infield actions. Develop a run up, fielding ball off to the side of left foot getting momentum working towards target.
Athletic Testing: 6.96 runner in the 60-yard dash; 25.00-inch max vertical jump. Quick start. Long strides. Nice action in arms. Fringe plus speed now, projects as plus runner.
Vizual Edge: 58.94 Edge Score.
Delivery: Side step rocker. High knee lift with inward turn. Lead leg cast out, lands on line. Soft landing, work go get over front side. Consistent pace, through out delivery, pace can get slow, work to keep a higher tempo consistently.
Arm Action: RH. Semi compact circle arm action. Solid arm speed present, will continue to develop.
FB: T79, 75-79 mph. Avg spin. Nice plane down. Some sink action. Expect velo to increase. T2068, 1969 average rpm.
CB: 66-66 mph. 12/6 shape. Big break, sharp when thrown with intent. T1877, 1877 average rpm.
SL: 68-70 mph. Inconsistent release, firm up release point. Gets under the ball. T2013, 1863 average rpm.
CH: 61-72 mph. Tail/sink arm side. Keep arm speed the same as FB. T1840, 1671 average rpm.
