Rising Stars on the Radar: 2028 SS Luca Catanzarite (Immaculata)
October 10, 2025
A standout player and performer from this summer’s East Coast Super Sophomore Games. Catanzarite always plays with an upbeat tempo and bounces around the field with athleticism and fluidity. The 5 ‘8 and 160-pound shortstop is a player to watch.
Offensively, Catanzarite is an athletic mover in the box with high-level adjustability and plate coverage with his swing. Felt like every at-bat he was producing loud contact or grinded out a walk. He hits from a rhythmic setup and syncs up his hand load and a high leg kick to land into a stretched hitting position. His barrels whips through the zone and can drive the baseball to all parts of the field with authority. With two strikes he makes a noticeable adjustment to limit swings and misses, allowing him to see the pitch deep and shoot it the other way. He can also produce exit velocities up to 97 mph and hit the ball to a max distance of 350 feet. He is developing into an all-around hitter that can carry an offense.
Defensively, he moves around with athleticism, fluidity, and swiftness. He bounces around the infield with an almost unlimited amount of range, and his arm strength of 87 mph can make all the throws necessary. He works around and through the ball with an advanced movement pattern and mechanics. His 7.09 sixty speed contributes to his ability to make ridiculous plays up the middle.
Overall, Catanzarite is an athletic ball player that can play anywhere on the field but can hold down the shortstop role with ease. His bat will continue to develop and trend into the direction of an elite top of the order bat. Intriguing players to continue to follow.
