California State Games: 2026 Catcher Analysis

Starting on July 30th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the California State Games at Fullerton College and High School in Fullerton, Cal. This was an invite-only event for high school classes (2026-2029), and gave our staff an ample look at the state's top prospects.

Today, we will begin the release of the scouting reports from the event, beginning with the 2026 catchers:
TOP 2026 CATCHING PROSPECTS
1. Will Adams, Los Alamitos High (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: C/1B Energetic presence behind the plate with fast, controlled actions. Offense is highlighted by a compact swing and steady line-drive approach.
Body: 5-10, 170-pounds. Well-proportioned body showing current physicality.
Hit: RHH. Simple, balanced base with even feet. Subtle lift to trigger the load. Short, direct path with a middle-of-the-field approach. 64.7 mph bat speed with 14g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 95 mph max exit velocity (85.7 avg.); 324-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 77 mph. Brings the ball quickly to the ear before a short, compact arm action. Clean release with quickness through the slot, allowing for efficient throws with carry.
Defense: 2.01-2.14 pop time range; Moves athletically out of the crouch with clean footwork and quick transitions. Displays soft, quiet hands when receiving pitches. Demonstrated the ability to block in live-game situations, reacting well and keeping balls within reach.
Athletic Testing: 7.80 runner in the 60-yard dash; 16.60-inch max vertical jump.
