Quick Hits

Micah Howard, OF, 2027, Jones County
Uncommitted. Athletic and broad-shouldered at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds there is plenty more to project upon in the frame/profile for Howard. The Jones County OF started the day off by posting an event best 60 time at 6.91. He then followed it up with a mature round of BP as he showed the ability to drive the ball to both gaps with authority. The RHH displays present bat speed and gets into his lower half well as he delivers a well-leveraged barrel through the zone. Put together a (Max EV: 98.7) for the 2nd highest EV in the event. Howard looks poised to carry a big role for Jones County in the Spring with a potential breakout looming.

Brelynd Beasley, IF/RHP, 2027, Jasper County
Uncommitted. Ultra-physical at 6-foot-0, 220-pounds, Beasley is armed with big-time strength throughout the frame. The RHH delivers a heavy barrel through the zone with real strength in the lower half and was able to generate significant carry to all-fields. Perpetually lived on the barrel throughout the round as he posted an event best (Max EV: 99.3) and an (Avg. EV: 93.3). Also showed good feel for the 3-pitch mix on the mound as well. Present arm speed with a stout lower half and attacked in the zone. Fastball sat 80-83 and slider showed some depth at 69-70 out of the same tunnel. Changeup was worked in at 71-75.

Jonathan Scarbary, OF/RHP, 2026, Jones County
Uncommitted. Athletic and broad-chested at 5-foot-11, 173-pounds with plenty more to project upon, Scarbary put together an all-around impressive showing and looks poised to provide an instant impact on both sides of the ball for Jones County in the Spring. Present above-average bat speed stood out in a mature round of BP. Scarbary does a great job of staying balanced while creating leverage through the zone that generated carry to all parts of the field. Posted a (Max EV: 96.2). As well as posting strong numbers in the 60-yard (7.08) and an event best (85 MPH OF Velo). On the mound, the right-hander moves well down the mound and boasts a strong arm from a compact arm-action. Fastball lived 81-84 (T85 MPH) and curveball created good depth at 63-65. Changeup showed late-tumble with the feel to land in-zone. Two-way uncommitted name to know heading into the High School season.

MJ Lane, C, 2027, Jones County
Uncommitted. Lane has impressed amongst staff in each look over the years with more of the same on Saturday. The switch-hitting backstop showed excellent feel for the barrel in a linear path backed by present hand/bat speed. Produced a Max EV of 94 MPH from both sides of the plate in a mature round of BP as he drove the ball to both gaps. There is budding strength to project upon throughout the compact 5-foot-8 frame. The defensive tools can be equally as loud with the chance to be a carrying tool long-term. Exhibited plenty of athleticism (1.90 pop time) behind the plate with strong blocking/receiving and arm strength to match (75 MPH C Velo).

Cayden Tidwell, RHP, 2026, Jones County
The uncommitted senior RHP provided an intriguing look as the last arm to wrap up the day. Physical 6-foot-1, 180-pounds with a stout lower half and moves well down the mound. Operates from a deceptive low ¾ slot with feel for the entire mix. Fastball sat 78-80 with sharp arm-side run. Changeup plays well out of the same tunnel with arm-side fade. Slider creates good sweep with feel to consistently land on the outer half.

Cooper Rice, 1B/LHP, 2028, Jones County
Uncommitted. Rice put together a strong all-around showing, displaying promising potential both on the mound and at the plate. The left-hander has a physical 6-foot-1 frame and showcased impressive bat speed offensively, driving line drives gap-to-gap with consistent barrel accuracy and the ability to do damage out front. On the mound, he featured a three-pitch mix led by a fastball in the low 80s with ride and arm-side run that filled the zone effectively. His primary breaking ball was a sharp slider with late downward action, complemented by a changeup showing late fade and good separation from his fastball. Rice will be one to watch heading into his upcoming sophomore campaign with Jones County, offering two-way intrigue over the coming summers.

Kason Flowers, OF/RHP, 2027, Veterans
Uncommitted. Flowers impressed throughout the day with his well-rounded skill set and athleticism. He opened the event by running a 6.79 60-yard dash, amongst the top times of the showcase. During BP, he showed a dynamic approach with real bat-to-ball skills, quality barrel control, and sneaky juice to all fields, posting a Max EV of 94.8 MPH. Offensively, he projects as a top-of-the-order bat with mature plate awareness and consistent contact ability. In the outfield, Flowers moves efficiently with good range and arm strength, keeping the ball on a line with quick, clean transfers. Expect Kason to be a key piece at the top of the order for Veterans this spring, as his balanced toolset and athleticism should allow him to continue climbing the state rankings.

Cooper Snook, INF/RHP, 2028, Jones County
Uncommitted. Cooper Snook put together a standout weekend both at the dish and on the mound. With that bat, it’s aggressive hands with a quick toe-tap load that generates a level swing plane to all parts of the field. His body stays well balanced and connected through each swing and strong bat-to-ball tendencies. Showcased good stuff on the rubber also, sitting in the upper 70s with the fastball that has been up to 81 MPH this fall. Cooper worked in two offspeed pitches as well: a two-plane action curveball and a quality changeup both in the low 70s. Snook is a dynamic mover on the mound, and low effort and repeatable mechanics with firm arm action. Certainly a name to keep tabs on over the coming summers, as he’ll look to be a key contributor for Jones County in both aspects.
