Cavalier Baseball Club Scout Day: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Saturday, October 11th, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to Johnson County CC in Overland Park, KS to host the Cavalier Baseball Club Scout Day. This event, featured 40 players from the Cavalier Baseball Club program in attendence.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 6 names that popped to our staff from Saturday's trip to Overland Park.

QUICK HITS

+ OF Merrick Ginden (Blue Valley West, 2027) came away a clear winner from Saturday’s event, showing loud tools on both sides of the ball in a physical 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. Offensively, Ginden backspun baseballs gap-to-gap from a strong right-handed swing that created leverage through contact. He was on the barrel often, averaging 92.1 mph exit velocity with a 98.4 mph peak. His strength translated to the outfield as well, where he fired his firmest ball at 84 mph. A 6.73 runner in the 60 as well, Ginden is an athletic prospect to follow closely this spring.

+ One of the event’s louder rounds of BP belonged to CIF Logan Weishaar (Olathe South, 2027). Built at 6-foot, 207 pounds, Weishaar showed off inherent bat strength and a flat, right-handed swing that worked to elevate the baseball, favoring the pull-side throughout his round. He averaged 91.4 mph exit velocity, peaking at 99.1 mph — the top mark of the event — with his furthest ball traveling 372 feet.

Logan Weishaar

+ 1B Ethan Broxterman (Mill Valley, 2027) stands in a frame to dream on at 6-foot-6, 180 pounds, offering plenty of projection. The long-limbed left-handed hitter was consistently on the barrel to the pull side, peaking at 94.1 mph exit velocity. With long levers and ample room to add strength, Broxterman will be an intriguing follow in the 2027 class as he continues to develop.

+ INF Atticus McGeeney (Shawnee Mission South, 2027) stands in a 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame and has added notable strength since last year’s event. The left-handed hitter takes an aggressive, yet controlled, approach to the baseball, showing the ability to consistently elevate to the pull side. McGeeney’s best barrel left the bat at 92.5 mph.

+ OF Aidan Schutte (Gardner-Edgerton, 2026) is an uncommitted senior to note from Saturday’s trip to Overland Park. The strong-bodied, 6-foot, 178-pound outfielder impressed across multiple facets of his workout, showing strong hands and a simple, right-handed swing that produced consistent barrels through the middle of the field in one of the day’s more polished rounds of BP. Schutte’s hardest hit ball left the bat at 95.8 mph, and he also ran a 6.93 60 to round out a well-rounded showing.

Aidan Schutte

+ INF Adam Troncoso (Blue Valley, 2027) is a twitchy junior that swings a fast, level right-handed barrel with feel for the barrel, spraying line drive contact throughout his round and peaking at 90.1 mph. Troncoso also showed defensive versatility with reliable actions both on the infield and in the outfield, while running a 6.88 60 — one of the top marks of the day.
