Natural Baseball Academy Scout Day: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Saturday, October 4th, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to De Soto High School in De Soto, KS to host the Natural Baseball Academy Scout Day. This event, featured 20+ players from the Natural Baseball Academy program in attendence.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 4 names that popped to our staff from Saturday's trip to De Soto.

QUICK HITS

+ UTL/RHP Ethan Lane (Blue Valley, 2027) emerged as one of the top two-way standouts from Saturday’s event. Lean and athletic at 5-foot-11, 150 pounds, Lane offers plenty of projection with tools that stood out across the board. He opened the day by showcasing his athleticism, running a 6.98 60 with a 3.86 30-yard split, both among the day’s best marks. His arm strength was evident in both the infield and outfield, posting 88 mph and 86 mph peak velocities, respectively. That same arm strength carried over to the mound, where Lane sat 83–84 mph, topping at 85 mph with heavy arm-side run (22.9 inches of horizontal movement). He paired his fastball with a 70–72 mph slider spinning north of 2,300 RPM and a 76–77 mph changeup, rounding out an arsenal with plenty of upside.

+ C Weston Glendening (Homeschool, 2027) is a physical backstop to note from this event. Built with strength throughout a 6-foot, 190-pound frame, Glendening stood out during his round of BP, using a heavy right-handed barrel with intent to elevate to the pull side. He hammered his best ball at 99.3 mph, the top exit velocity of the day. Defensively, the junior posted 2.04–2.19 pop times from behind the plate.

+ Saturday's trip to De Soto gave our staff another look at Show Me State native INF Drew Harder (Nevada, MO, 2027) who put together another strong showing in this look. The uncommitted 5-foot-10, 168-pound infielder worked back through the middle of the field with a rotational, handsy left-handed swing, peaking at a 90.1 mph exit velocity. He also showed steady arm strength across the diamond with an 80 mph infield velocity and ran a 7.38 60.

+ C/OF Christian Stuewe (Gardner-Edgerton, 2028) put together a strong, well-rounded showing on Saturday. The 5-foot-10, 155-pound sophomore repeated elevated pull-side contact from an uphill right-handed swing, peaking at 90 mph exit velocity. Defensively, he showed versatility with an 80 mph outfield velocity and a 70 mph catcher velocity from the chute and also hopped on the mound to close out his day, topping at 80 mph with his fastball with more to come as he continues to add strength and size.
