Nebraska - When it comes to projecting the next wave of impact bats in Nebraska, the Class of 2027 is already showing advanced strength, bat speed, and natural power that plays well beyond their years. These hitters aren’t just producing big numbers, they’re combining physical maturity, refined swings, and explosive contact that translate to game-changing production. From imposing middle-of-the-order presences to rising left-handed power threats, this group represents the future of offensive firepower in the state. Tools of the Trade takes a closer look at several 2027 standouts who are proving that power is a skill and they have plenty of it.

Casey Gilliland C / 3B / Burke High School, NE / 2027

The Omaha Burke catcher and Team Midwest representative at the 2025 Futures Games possesses elite bat speed, measured at 87.2 mph, which translates to exit velocities up to 98.7 mph and a max distance of 378 feet.
