VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series returns as we wind down from a packed fall of Prep Baseball California events, scout baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a talented 2026 player who is featured inside the Top 250 of our 2026 California rankings. We are looking at the SoCal based '26 OF/LHP Adam Whyte from Tustin High School in Tustin, Calif.. Whyte has been a consistently strong performer on the Prep Baseball California event platform going all the way back to his debut at the 2023 SoCal Underclass Games and then in three different appearances during 2025 with the San Diego Preseason All State event then the Future Games Tryout: Central California and capped it with another excellent performance at the 2025 California State Games. At each event Whyte has showed realistic next level ability as both a LHH OF with feel to hit and impact while showing a high level pitchability on the mound from the LH side.

During his JR. season with Tustin High School, Whyte was one of if not arguably the top performer for the Drillers program. As a LH hitter he played in all 30 of the Drillers games taking 110 plate appearances with 95 official at bats. During those trips to the plate Whyte posted a slash line of .347/.436/.537 with 33 hits (leading the team) and 15 of those hits went for extra bases (13 doubles, one triple, one home run). His 23 runs scored were tops on the Drillers with his 13 RBIs tied for third. Whyte walked more than he struck out on the year with 12 BBs to 10 Ks. His performance on the mound was right up there with his season at the plate toeing the rubber for 64 innings (tops on the team by nearly 40 innings) with 65 Ks to just 20 BBs on the year. Opponents hit just .212 against him with a .276 On Base Percentage for the season and for good measure he had a 1.75 ERA with five wins, one save and one complete game fronting the Tustin rotation.

The LH hitting Whyte employs a simple double toe tap stride with his front foot and maintains body control in the load keeping his head quiet. He works down into his lower half during the turn with his upper body tilting back slightly at contact to help generate leverage from his direct/compact hand and bat path. His simple operation in the load allows him to make sound swing decisions and the LHH uses his hips to rotate and generates impressive present torque posting 25.8 Gs of rotational acceleration. His swing path is leveraged through the zone geared mainly for middle to pull side of the field contact with intriguing present metrics in both his fast hands up to 23.1 MPH peak hand speed with a direct path and sound turn producing bat speed at 73.7 MPH. His simple operation in the box combined with his sound approach/timing produces loud batted ball data via Trackman including a max EV up to 98.2 MPH during Future Games Tryout batting practice with an average EV over 90 MPH and sweet spot rates up 83% and a hard hit rates of 92%. His present strength in his frame with sound swing operation and feel for his approach/timing helps him impact the ball to the pull side with a max distance of 362'.

As solid as Whyte is at the plate as a middle of the order potential LH hitter he shows plenty of ability on the mound to profile as a potential high pitchability southpaw for the next level. Whyte pounds the zone consistently with his four pitch mix fronted by the FB that lives in the 82-85 MPH range reaching as high as 86 MPH for our staff in events/live looks averaging over 2000 RPMs of spin on the pitch. His CHG is likely his top secondary both in pitch profile and his confidence in throwing it for strikes living at 74-76 MPH with separation in shape/spin off his FB to provide deception against hitters. Adam spins a pair of solid present breaking balls in his SLD and CB both living in the upper 60's to low 70's with spin rates north of 2000 RPMs on average.

Whyte presently checks in with a solid 5'11 206 lbs. frame with room to polish and improve his solid build to tap into even more physicality in the coming years. His defensive profile suits him best in an OF corner with 7.2 60 yard sprint times allowing him to handle either OF corner solidly (plus could be comfortable at 1B) with 85 MPH OF arm velocity while showing accuracy that he can be sound in RF and a weapon in LF with his arm strength.

The overall profile for Whyte is impressive and while he is a two-way product in high school he will benefit from shifting to one side or the other at the next level based on where a program views his long term profile most beneficial to their program. But, whichever direction a program goes with the LH hitting profile or LH pitching profile Whyte has the tools, performance and future to be an impactful player for a college program in their 2026 class.

4/10/25

Adam Whyte took the ball as the starter for Tustin High School and delivered a complete game performance, showcasing polish, mound presence, and pitchability across 7 strong innings, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 4. It was an efficient outing from the left-hander, who consistently got ahead in counts and pitched to contact with confidence with 64% strikes. Throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot, Whyte repeated his delivery well and utilized a three-pitch mix that kept hitters honest. His fastball sat 81-84 MPH and was commanded well throughout the zone, with particular success when elevated. While it occasionally showed late run, Whyte's natural supination limits horizontal movement and instead gives his fastball a more true, riding life, which plays especially well at the top of the zone. He paired it with a firm changeup at 74-76 MPH that mimicked fastball shape and release, making it effective—particularly against right-handed hitters—by creating late fade and disruption of timing. Whyte also mixed in a curveball at 68-70 MPH, a classic over-the-top breaker with sharp vertical action. He was able to land it in the zone and use it as a chase pitch, showing the ability to work it in multiple counts. The separation in velocity between his fastball and offspeed offerings gave him a solid mix that allowed him to keep hitters off balance. Beyond his presence on the mound, Whyte also impressed with his athleticism, making a diving play off the mound to prevent a bunt hit, highlighting his instincts and fielding ability as a pitcher. With a solid frame and clean mechanics, Whyte continues to show projectable pitchability and mound presence that should draw attention moving forward. His feel for a three-pitch mix, ability to command the zone, and competitiveness make him a key arm in the Tustin rotation and a name to monitor as the season progresses.
