Future Games Catcher/Outfielder Analysis: Team SoCal

From Wednesday, July 23 to Saturday, July 26th, Prep Baseball hosted the official 2025 Future Games. The best uncommitted talent from the Class of 2027 all met at LakePoint Sports on this day to ignite the start of this special event, as position players were guided through this pro-style workout in front of a sea of over 400 college coaches.

In this post, we’re looking at the scouting reports on every catcher and outfielder from Team SoCal at this year’s 2025 Future Games.

TOP CATCHER/OUTFIELDER PROSPECTS

1. Ira Rootman, Harvard-Westlake (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: OF Outfielder with physical tools and advanced instincts, showing strength and awareness both on the field and at the plate.
Body: 6-1, 183-pounds. Compact, athletic build with broad shoulders and present strength, offering room to still grow physically.
Hit: RHH. Maintains a centered, athletic stance with knees bent and hands just above the rear shoulder. Initiates a moderate leg kick without overly loading the body, keeping motion smooth and controlled. Stays upright through contact, driving the bat on a slight uphill plane, and finishes tall with a two-handed, balanced follow-through.
Power: 103 max exit velocity, averaged 94.0 mph. 310' max distance.
Arm: RH. OF-90 mph. Compact, efficient arm action. Throws come out on a straight line with accuracy to the bag.
Defense: Maintains a balanced, fluid lower half with controlled, deliberate footwork toward the ball. Executes a clean, efficient transfer for accurate throws. Range to stick in CF long term.
