Competitive Edge Scout Day: Quick Hits
September 2, 2025
On Saturday, August 23rd, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to Platte County High School in Platte city, MO to host the annual Competitive Edge Scout Day. This event, featured 40+ players from the Competitive Edge program in attendence.
All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 6 names that popped to our staff from Saturday's trip to Platte City.
QUICK HITS
OF/RHP Brody Cunningham (Park Hill South, 2027) came away as one of the biggest winners from Saturday’s event, finishing near the top of nearly every leaderboard from our tip to Platte City. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound athlete took one of the loudest BP rounds of the day, consistently barreling balls with an 85.8 mph average exit velocity, peaking at 94.4 mph and sending his furthest ball 339 feet. Cunningham’s arm strength stood out as well, firing an 85 mph bullet from the outfield that carried over to the mound, where he ran his fastball up to 82 mph, spun a 66-68 mph slider, and turned over a 68-70 mph changeup. He also ran a 6.98 60 - the second fastest mark on the day. With his athletic, 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame and room to add more strength, Cunningham is a name to follow as he continues to polish his game.
C/RHP Aubrey Nichols (Smithville, 2027) was another physical two-way standout from Saturday’s event. At 6-foot-1, 179-pounds, Nichols swung with authority and intent to elevate from the right side, producing the day’s top exit velocity at 96.9 mph and sending the furthest ball of the event — a 366-foot shot. He also showed arm strength on the mound, working his fastball into the low-80s with a curveball/changeup mix to pair.
A physical sophomore of note from Saturday’s trip to Platte City was 1B/RHP Greyson Reik (Platte County, 2028). Built with plenty of raw strength in a 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame, Reik consistently found the barrel in BP, peaking at 91.4 mph with an impressive 87 mph average. He also showed arm strength both across the diamond and on the mound, topping at 80 mph in each, further solidifying himself as a name to keep an eye on in the coming years.
INF/OF Maddax Healy (Staley, 2028) is an upside athlete to know heading into next spring and summer. At 6-foot, 170-pounds with plenty of room to add strength, Healy shows polish and balance at the plate, repeating a rhythmic right-handed swing with consistency and peaking at 87.6 mph exit velocity. He also flashed arm strength across the diamond (81 mph) and from the outfield (85 mph), furthering his projection as a name to follow in Missouri’s 2028 class as he polishes his game.
Saturday's event gave our staff another look at INF Mason Hall (Northland Christian, 2027) who continues to show intriguing upside. Long and lean at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, Hall offers plenty of projection as his game rounds into form. At the plate, he used his long levers and quick hands (22.6 mph hand speed) to consistently find the barrel, peaking at 92.1 mph exit velocity. That length translated to the field as well, where he showed range on the infield reaching 77 mph across the diamond and turned in a 7.24 60-yard dash.
INF/OF Anthony Giamalva (Leavenworth, KS, 2028) continues to trend upward with each look, showing steady gains across the board since this same event last year. One of the younger participants in attendance, Giamalva led the event in both infield velocity (84 mph) and outfield velocity (88 mph) while also running a 7.04 60, good for fourth-best on the day. At the plate, the 5-foot-7, 145-pounder is still adding size and strength but showed feel for the barrel, peaking at 85.7 mph exit velocity with contact that has consistently translated in-game.
