Taylor Berg
Utah Scouting Director

This week, Utah's updated Class of 2027 rankings went live, now extended through the Top 100. While the top of the list continues to feature familiar names, several players outside that range made significant jumps.

Today we’re highlighting the biggest risers. Each of these players has taken a step forward this year, whether through added strength, sharper tools, or consistent in game production. Their development has been steady and noticeable, and the momentum is pushing them firmly onto the radar heading into the fall.

Here’s a look at some of the standouts making noise in the latest update.

RANKINGS RISERS 📈

Jaxton Tolman 3B / RHP / Desert Hills, UT / 2027

Jaxton has been a staple in the Desert Hills Varsity lineup since his Freshman year. Each of the past two seasons have seen the Thunder make playoff runs that Jax played crucial roles in. With added physicality in the last year, his power numbers on both sides have taken big jumps leading to impressive production. Running the FB in the mid 80s with a real intent to attack hitters and a feel for 3 pitches, Jax has the ability to keep his team in any game. The recent Nicholls State commit is showing all the signs of a potential 4A Player of the Year type season!

Talon Willardson LHP / OF / American Fork, UT / 2027

One of the more impressive breakout seasons of the year has to go to Talon. The Futures Games alum helped lead American Fork to another 6A State Championship on the mound, bolstering a 6-0 Record, hurling 39 Innings with a 39/9 strikeout to walk ratio and a 2.29 ERA. A consistent strike thrower from the left side living in the low 80s T85, and confidently throwing all 3 pitches at any time. A two sport athlete with serious strength that may see him in the lineup this year, Talon has the ability to be a top player, for a top program in the State, that is looking to win back to back titles.

Wesley Dewitt SS / 2B / Park City, UT / 2027

Wesley physically looks the part of a next level SS. At 6’ 170 lbs he moves exceptionally well defensively with plus hands and a sense for timing. Makes all the routine plays and flashes special at times. Ability to carry the ball across the diamond and uses his feet during throws to his advantage. LHH with a flat path and intent to do damage, he has shown gap to gap LD ability in big spots off big arms. With above average physical tools and metrics, look for Wesley to continue his upward trend and have another All-State caliber season for Park City.

Schafer Dixon RHP / 1B / Mountain Ridge, UT / 2027

An intriguing prospective arm that just seems to get better and better each month, has been Schafer out of Mountain Ridge HS. The 6’5 right hander has really made strides the past year on the mound, putting him right in the mix for one of the top arms in the Class moving forward. Sitting mid 80s T88 at our Summer ID in July, I was impressed with the frame and ease in which he made his delivery. A live arm combined with added physicality and maturation is going to see Schafer in the low 90s before his HS career is over. An exciting follow going into the 2026 Season!

Sawyer Call RHP / OF / Lehi, UT / 2027

Sawyer is a classic example of the saying “play hard you never know who is watching”. I happened to see Sawyer pitch in a big spot over the Summer at a non-PBR event, and he was awesome. An unknown player to me at the time, he quickly displayed in his first 2 innings that he was a legitimate arm and a kid I needed to continue to follow. Since then he has been even better and shown tremendous upside. He has smooth, repeatable mechanics and an over the top delivery from the right side. The CV has shown signs of an elite pitch, spinning 2800+ on average and been above 3000 at times. With the FB sitting 86-88 this Fall T90, Sawyer is making a case for a top arm in the Class going into next season. I fully expect him to have a breakout Spring on the mound for a top program in the State at Lehi.

Colbey Larsen SS / RHP / American Fork, UT / 2027

Colbey had an excellent Summer circuit and I was fortunate to see him on a number of occasions. My first time seeing him was during local tournament play, and I don’t recall that he recorded an out offensively in two games played. Quality timing mechanism with a leg lift into a solid middle approach and intent to get a bat on the ball. Does not try to do too much and can spray the ball to all fields. He received an invite to our Summer Top Prospects Games and continued his display of offensive consistency. The defense also plays but needs to continue his maturation physically to fill out the 6’2 145lb frame. Add Colbey’s name to your follow list, as you can absolutely count on his continued development at American Fork HS.

Gage Lintz SS / 2B / Copper Hills, UT / 2027

At 5’9 140lbs, Gage may be on the smaller end of the spectrum but his game plays big. The defensive actions are elite. Extremely twitchy and light on his feet, presents the glove early out front and plays SS with confidence. The ability to use his feet and quick hands will keep him at SS throughout his career while his physicality catches up. Also a top runner in the class (6.77) he puts pressure on the defense with every ball in play. Put Gage down as a top defender in the class and if the bat continues to develop which I expect that it will, count on him playing next level baseball after HS.

Cohen Plewe C / 2B / Skyridge, UT / 2027

Cohen really impressed this Summer at our Top Prospects Games where he displayed above average physicality and tools for his Class, and position. Quick exchanges with strong accurate throws topping at 80 mph, Cohen really popped defensively with the catch and throw portion of the workout. At 6’ 190 lbs, he looks the part of a next level Catching prospect and drove balls around the yard during BP as well. Wide base with a short path to the ball and ability to backspin LD’s through the gap. Overall, an impressive Summer for Cohen and I anticipate a big year for the Falcon Junior Catcher.

Isaac Swanson C / SS / Desert Hills, UT / 2027

Back in June we had our CBA Summit Scout Day in Saint George, UT, and Isaac was a standout from that event. The 5’10 Junior Catcher has a great sense for timing offensively, also featuring a simple swing that stays behind the ball very well. This ability gives Isaac sneaky pop and distance even with a slighter, 145lb frame. He displayed strong catch and throw ability with quick exchanges and an above average arm that saw throws on line each time. With a build that can sustain substantial added physicality, I am eager to follow Isaac over the next two years as that process unfolds and his game continues to progress.

Jamison Thornock C / RHP / Crimson Cliffs, UT / 2027

Jamison participated in our CBA Summit Scout Day back in June and showcased well overall. The 6’4 185lb frame is very intriguing, and when he is on the mound he utilizes every bit of it during the delivery. Knee to shoulder leg lift then drives down and reaches all the way back, delivering out of two distinct arm slots: low ¾ & dropping down to waist level release. He mixes between the two deliveries and when he is more over the top he has shown up to 86. Unique delivery proves to be tough on hitters and I like the upside physically. A big strong athlete in the Crimson Cliffs system, I expect continued growth and development and one of the next future college baseball players from that program.
