North Carolina Class of 2027: Rankings Update
With the close of the summer season and the start of the new school year, Prep Baseball North Carolina has updated its Class of 2027 Rankings. This update expands the list to the Top 275 players in the state, reflecting the depth and quality of talent in this group. For the, now, Junior class, this summer was the beginning of the eyes of the scouting world turning their attention to them. With bigger stages, several players in the state made big impressions. With new recruiting rules in place, coaches and scouts are getting a longer look at players prior to making offers. This summer was just the beginning of the process that will last, for many, well into their Senior year.
Summer of Growth
The summer of 2025 was a pivotal period for the Class of 2027. Players across the state competed in national tournaments, organizational scout days, and Prep Baseball events, testing their tools against high-level competition. Many prospects showed measurable gains in strength, speed, and skill, while others emerged as consistent performers in game action.
The Prep Baseball Future Games once again proved to be a major proving ground. Team Carolina’s 2027s delivered standout performances in front of more than 400 college coaches, with several players making significant jumps in their prospect status. Those gains are now reflected in the updated rankings.
Overall, the rankings database saw over 350 players added from Prep Baseball events and coverage. The 2027 Rankings move to the Top 275 players with over 60 players making their 1st appearance inside the state’s rankings.
Elite Talent at the Top
The 2027 class features an impressive crop of high-end talent that stacks up with some of the best in recent North Carolina history. Leading the way are Connor Salerno (LHP, Sun Valley HS) and Jacob Seamon (OF, Metrolina Christian School), who both solidified their status as Top Draft Prospects after exceptional summers. Both earned invites to compete with USA Baseball in invitational situations, as well as the highly prestigious Prep Baseball All-American Game.
Salerno earned rave reviews at the East Coast Pro Showcase in August. The lefty was dominate with feel for the zone, challenging some of the top hitters in the 2026 and 2027 class and eliminating them with what looked like some ease. Salerno’s fastball peaked at 97 in the outing.
Seamon continues to impress with his bat, length, and potential ceiling. The 2027 OF put together very impressive BP sessions and followed that up with excellent in-game at-bats and production on the big stage.
While Salerno and Seamon headline the class, the depth inside the Top 20 is equally noteworthy. This group features a mix of high-ceiling arms, athletic position players, and advanced bats—players who could make a strong case for themselves as national-level prospects in the coming months. We are still very young in the rankings process. Expect to see players make a move over the fall and into the spring, shaking up the Top 50 and beyond.
Ranking Risers: Future Games Impact
Several players used the spotlight of the 2025 Prep Baseball Future Games to vault their stock. Against elite competition, these athletes showed they belonged on a national stage, whether it was through loud offensive performances, dominant outings on the mound, or standout athleticism during workouts. In the coming weeks, Prep Baseball NC will spotlight rankings risers in greater detail with video, analysis, and breakdowns of what led to their surge.
The Rankings Process
Prep Baseball’s rankings system is built to be thorough, consistent, and impartial. Each player is first evaluated through a combination of live scouting, event data, and video analysis. A player grade is then assigned, and athletes are entered into a class-specific database.
To ensure fairness, all identifying information is temporarily removed while rankings are sorted based purely on grades and measurable tools. Once ordered, names and details are reintroduced, and final adjustments are made to provide the most accurate reflection of the class.
Previewing the Top 10
The updated Class of 2027 Top 10 highlights the strength of this group across multiple positions. The list includes a balance of pitchers and position players, with five arms and five bats earning spots at the top.
Salerno and Seamon headline the rankings, both garnering attention as potential early-round MLB Draft follows. Behind them, the next tier of prospects features athletic outfielders, impact infielders, and power arms who will continue to draw significant attention from recruiters and scouts alike.
The recruiting process for the 2027 class is unlike any other in the history of college baseball. While several players have made their decision, the depth of uncommitted players at this stage is unrivaled in Prep Baseball’s coverage of the Junior Classes over time. It will be interesting to watch how schools navigate their needs, the transfer portal, and the plethora of talent in the 2027 class.
