Steven Hardesty
Associate Director SoCal

FULLERTON, CALIF. - The Seventh Annual California State Games took place at both Fullerton College and Fullerton High School where close to 200 players from around the Golden State descended on these two facilities to participate in the largest event Prep Baseball California runs on an annual basis. The three-day event attracted some of the top uncommitted players in the 2026 and 2027 classes and also included hand selected 2028's to participate.

Players were put through a workout day that include physical and athletic testing with data collected by our partners at Trackman, VALD, Vizual Edge, and more. The following two days were dedicated to gameplay where each of the ten teams played three games providing our team of scouts and the dozens of college coaches in attendance a glimpse of the players in-game abilities.

Today, we will be looking at the top game play performers from the seven games played at Fullerton High School during the 2025 California State Games.

Fullerton High School Game Play Top Performers:

Jack McGuire RHP / Villa Park, CA / 2026

McGuire was an easy choice for this list as he took home the MV-Pitcher award from the the 2025 California State Games event. He took the mound to start the day on Friday for the grey squad and would provide some electricity to get the day going. With a wiry build on his 6'4 frame at 188.6 lbs. McGuire is a clean mover down the mound showing consistent feel for his four pitch arsenal. His FB is the centerpiece of the quality pitch mix living at 86-87 on the offering while bumping 88 MPH that plays at the bottom of the zone or above the zone for chase. His trio of offspeed offerings help him to keep hitters off balance with the feel to throw each for strikes and an intriguing SPLT which dives off the table below the zone for chase (tunneling effectively off his FB at the bottom of the zone). McGuire would pucnh out eight hitters over his three innings and allow no runs to earn himself the MV-Pitcher honors and a spot on the top performers from Fullerton Union High School game play.

Jordan Hall OF / 1B / Summit High, CA / 2027

Hall is an imposing presence standing 6'5 with a strongly built 215 lbs. frame that suits his corner offensive profile. Hall earned his way to the State Games through an outstanding showing at the Orange County Summer ID and the Inland Empire product made his presence felt at the plate over two games at Fullerton Union High School. The RHH would take six at bats over two games played there and his first one of the week announced his presence with authority when he laced a 99 MPH EV double off the wall narrowly missing a homer. After narrowly missing a homer in that first at bat Hall did not in his second trip to the plate when he unloaded on a 95 MPH EV fly ball to CF for a homer. Then in his second game at Fullerton Union Hall would open his day with a rocket 98 MPH EV homer this time to LCF that was a no doubt blast off the bat. Over the course of two games Hall would go 3-6 with those three extra base hits and two of his three outs were recorded on 90+ MPH EV balls in play. Physical and solidly athletic Hall showed his feel to produce hard contact in game play and can provide middle of the order impact for a collegiate lineup in the future.

Logan Pascarella OF / LHP / Corona High School, CA / 2028

Pascarella was one of the top 2028's in attendance for the 2024 California State Games and the Corona High School product backed up that performance by again producing loud numbers over the course of his two games played at Fullerton Union. A two-way player Pascarella showed quality stuff on the mound with a FB that worked up to 86 MPH from the LH side early in his outing while living in the 82-85 MPH range for the majority of his three innings while backing it up with a quality CHG and the emergence of feel for spinning his CB. But, Pascarella jumps on this list for his performance as a RHH OF with impressive impact in his bat. In his first game at Fullerton Union Pascarella unloaded on a pair of home runs with one leaving the yard at 106 MPH EV to straight away left that cleared both fences and the storage area beyond the LF fence and the other being a 92 MPH drive to LCF off a SLD up in the zone. Pascarella's ability to turn around both a FB and spin demonstrated his solid feel for hitting with impressive power. The RH hitter finished 2-4 over the two games while playing strong OF defense as he looks to earn his way into the starting lineup at the powerhouse Corona program for his JR. season.

Jrue Hurd OF / OF / St. John Bosco High School, CA / 2027

Hurd was a standout performer at the Central California Preseason ID before being a part of the St. John Bosco CIF-SS D1 title squad during the spring. Now he caps his Soph. campaign with an eye-opening performance at the 2025 California State Games. A LH hitting OF with CF defensive athleticism he showed off an impressive feel to hit and hit with impact over the two games he played at Fullerton Union. He opened his State Games game play by lacing a line drive homer to the pull side at 90+ MPH EV going 1-2 in that first game. When he returned for his final game at Fullerton Union the compactly built Hurd was ready to do damage again by opening the game with a rocket line drive homer to RCF that was over 90+ MPH EV then just missed another extra base hit when he drilled a 98 MPH EV line drive right at the opponents RF and finally comleted his 2-5 performance by narrowly missing another homer when he flew out to the wall in CF. Hurd will return to Bosco looking to compete for a role on the Braves squad as they prepare to defend their title.

Aidan Nieto 1B / RHP / Tesoro High, CA / 2026

Nieto boasts an intriguing 6'5 215 lbs. frame with wiry present strength that has room to fill out more as he matures in the coming years. The Tesoro High product earns his spot on this list both for his performance as a RH hitting 1B who collected a pair of knocks over four total plate appearances while drawing a walk to reach base three times. But, also for how his deceptive short arm delivery with an 83-85 MPH FB performed over three innings of work. Nieto hides the ball behind his body effectively before popping out a quick FB that appeared to get on hitters with more life than just his pure velocity would suggest and backing the offering up with a 75-77 MPH CHG and 71-75 MPH SLD. Nieto attacked the strike zone aggressively picking up called strikes and whiff from hitters over his outing to record a total of 7 Ks. The Orange County based product will be an interesting follow as an uncommitted 2026 for college programs.

Rahul Patel RHP / RHP / Valley Christian High School, CA / 2026

Patel made the trip down from NorCal to be a part of the 2025 California State Games and the Valley Christian product made the most of his three innings on the bump. With a medium build at 5'11 186.5 lbs. he pitches off a quality three pitch mix fronted by a FB which lived at 83-86 MPH and touched 87 MPH showing heavy running life to his arm side averaging 17" of horizontal run that played effectively down in the zone or above the zone. The arm side running offering for Patel sets up a quality SLD in the 75-79 MPH range with generates an average of 7+" of glove side movement reaching as high as 11.8" of movement. He completed the arsenal with a 78-79 MPH CHG with a similar movement profile to his FB. The east/west attack profile helped produce contact on the ground and picked up five Ks over his three innings of work.

Julian Suarez C / 3B / Woodcrest Christian School System, CA / 2028

Suarez was a member of the 2024 Team California Junior Future Games squad and then made a solid first appearance at the 2024 California State Games. Now returning for his second appearance at State Games coming off a solid FR. campaign on the varsity level at Woodcrest Christian School Suarez showed off impressive emerging power to go with his already strong feel to hit and defensive profile. More compactly built with solid present strength at 5'7 161.9 lbs. Suarez hit the ball in the air with authority during batting practice at Fullerton Junior College (96.9 MPH max EV / 60% fly ball-line drive rate / 60% hard hit rate / 374' max distance) and that impact showed up in game play. Suarez took four at bats over the course of two games played at Fullerton Union and produced a 2-3 line with a walk, but it was the impact of those two hits which put him on this team. In his first plate appearance the RH hitter uncorked on a 96 MPH EV double into LCF that exploded off the bat and then capped his game play at Fullerton Union by unloading on a no doubt 95+ MPH EV homer to LCF. In between the double and the homer Suarez showed his plate discipline in drawing a walk while flashing his athleticism stealing a bag while showing a strong defensive profile behind the dish.

Devon Richardson 1B / 3B / Manteca High, CA / 2026

Richardson is another NorCal product who made the trip down from Manteca High to put on impressive display over the course of the three days. Richardson made a strong case of the MVP award for the entire State Games and likely could be considered the top offensive performer at Fullerton Union over the two games he played there. Stoutly built at 6'1 227.5 lbs. Richardson profiles a corner product with impact in his bat and that profile showed up a high level over both games. During batting practice the RH hitter peaked at 101+ MPH on his exit velocity with loud impact to the pull side (360' max distance) and in seven at bats over two games that strength showed up in a 5-7 showing. His first two knocks were singles with one being a 95 MPH line drive which drove in a run and the other showing off his strength when he muscled a flare into the OF for a knock. After grounding out Richardson would then unload on a 95 MPH EV homer before punching a single back through the middle of the diamond and then again uncorked on a 95 MPH EV homer in his sixth trip to the dish. An impressive display of feel to hit and impact Richardson is a strong offensive name to know in the 2026 class for college programs.

Andrew DesMarets LHP / OF / San Dimas High, CA / 2026

DesMarets was the first arm to take the mound for the Orange squad at Fullerton Union and the southpaw took advantage of the opportunity with a loud three innings of work. Solidly built a 6' 198.9 lbs. DesMarets worked predominantly off a 80-82 MPH FB which had strong riding life especially above the belt or above the zone with spin rates as high as 2383 RPMs with 16.9" of IVB which in turn set up his vertically breaking 67-71 MPH CB which when thrown down in the zone featured power in the break. Attacking mainly north/south against hitters DesMarets picked up whiff/chase on his FBs up in the zone or above the zone before dumping in his curveball for strikes or landing it in the dirt below the zone for Ks. The southpaw mixed in the occasional CHG to RHH at 75-76 showing solid movement to the arm side that gives him a chance to start going forward should he polish the feel for it. Overall, DesMarets tossed three innings with five strikeouts in a strong showing.

Asher Bunnin OF / 2B / Harvard-Westlake, CA / 2027

Bunnin is a dynamic athlete out of the powerhouse Harvard-Westlake program who backed up an impressive showing during the workout portion of the event with a loud showing during his one game at Fullerton Union. Bunning has an athletic build in a compact frame at 5'9 154.3 lbs. with explosive speed (6.5 60 / 1.55 10 / 3.6 30-yard splits) that profiles to stick in CF as an impact defender. Bunning showed that impact defensive profile in the game patrolling the OF with athleticism and natural instincts. Far from just a defense only player Bunning showed well during batting practice with a max EV of 95.9 MPH and a 370' max distance with his feel for the barrel showing up during game play. The RH hitter had two at bats in one game at Fullerton Union and went 2-2 with both hits being of the extra base variety. His first hit was a missile double to straightaway CF that exited the bat at 95+ MPH and then in his final trip to the dish Bunning elevated the ball at 95+ MPH EV again this time going over the fence for a HR. Showing a future to impact the game in CF at a high level while adding in a top of the order offensive potential profile Bunning looks to be a strong name to know coming out of the Wolverines program.
