Rising Stars On The Radar: 2028 C/3B Julian Martinez (The Stony Brook)
September 12, 2025
The #1 catcher in New York and ranked #12 nationally, Julian stands 5-foot-10, 165 pounds with strength and fluidity in all actions.
Defensively, he shows advanced skills across the board. The glove work and transfers are clean, and his throws are accurate with carry through the bag. We’ve seen sub-2.0 in-game pop times and as low as 1.89 in showcase settings.
At the plate, Julian is balanced with good rhythm throughout the swing. The hands are strong, producing a compact stroke that works to all fields. At a scout day in June, he posted a peak exit velocity of 98 mph, averaging 90 mph, with a max distance of 357 feet—showing present power to match his advanced hit tool.
Already proving himself against high-level competition, Julian projects as one of the premier backstops in his class and will be a must-follow in the years to come.
