Prep Baseball Arkansas is proud to welcome Derrick Wynn as our new Arkansas Scouting Director and Mikel Howell as our new Arkansas Assistant Scouting Director, effective immediatley. 

Wynn currently serves as the assistant baseball coach at Springdale Har-Ber High School. He joined Har-Ber in 2025 after six seasons (2019-2024) as the pitching coach at Rogers Heritage High School, where his pitching staffs set program ERA records and helped numerous players advance to the collegiate and professional levels.

Before his time at Heritage, Wynn spent three years (2016-2018) providing private pitching instruction at Perfect Timing Baseball Academy and five seasons as the pitching coach at Arkansas Tech University. While at Arkansas Tech, his pitching staffs also set program ERA records and consistently developed athletes who continued their careers beyond college baseball.

A lifelong Arkansas native, Wynn is passionate about serving the state’s baseball community. He is excited to lead Prep Baseball in Arkansas because he believes deeply in the platform’s mission of providing exposure and opportunities for players. Having witnessed the impact of Prep Baseball events firsthand as a coach, Wynn is committed to ensuring Arkansas athletes receive the recognition and resources they deserve.

As a former player, Wynn competed for some of the state’s most respected coaches, including Kirk Bock (Harrison High School), Allen Gum, Steve Browning, and Justin Pettigrew (Southern Arkansas University). He also had the privilege of coaching alongside David Dawson (Arkansas Tech) and Brian Walker (Rogers Heritage). Each of these mentors left a lasting impact on his coaching philosophy, and Wynn now seeks to carry forward that tradition of mentorship by supporting and guiding Arkansas baseball players.

Wynn’s goal as Arkansas State Director is simple: to continue providing quality coverage, resources, and opportunities for young baseball players across the state while elevating Arkansas baseball on a national stage.

Joining him as the Assistant Scouting Director will be Mikel Howell. 

Born and raised in Huntsville, Texas, Howell has spent his life around the game of baseball. As a pitcher, he played six years of college ball at every level, from junior college to the NCAA at the Division I and DII levels – a path on which he gained invaluable experience and perspective along the way. He earned his bachelor's degree from Southern Arkansas University while competing at a high level on the mound and now he's become passionate about giving back to the game by helping the next generation of players navigate their own journey to college baseball. Whether it’s through skill development, recruiting insight, or mentorship, Howell is here to support athletes who are ready to take that next step.
