Emerson, Ga. - Today marked the second day of the best uncommitted Class of 2026 event with players from around the nation flocking to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Senior Future Games. California teamed up with the states of Nevada, Oregon and Washington to form Team West Coast. The day consists of two games for the Team West Coast squad.
In their second game of the event Team West Coast fell behind 1-0 after the top of the third inning, but then the squad rallied to post eight runs over the next six innings while holding Team Canada to just one additional run for a 8-2 victory. Several representatives from the State of California figured prominently in the win including a trio of arms accounting for six strong innings of work.
Righthander Andrew Albrecht from Thousand Oaks High School got the day started by with a two pitch mix fronted by both a four-seam and two-seam FB with the four-seamer reaching up to 87-89 MPH with spin rates above 2300 RPMs while mixing in a 84-86 MPH two-seamer with heavy action downhill while dropping in his 76-78 MPH SLD. Albrecht picked up one K over his two innings of scoreless work. Following him on the mound was righthander Jacob Torres of Centennial High School who impressed with a four seam FB he cut loose in the 90-92 MPH range with spin rates north of 2700 RPMs and a cutter in the 84-87 MPH range which also showed 2600+ RPMs of spin and a CB he flashed power on in the 71-74 MPH range that spins at over 2700 RPMs at its peak. Torres picked up three Ks in his two innings of work while inducing whiffs on both his FB and SLD. Finally, Emmett Kopp a massive 6'7 righthander from JSerra Catholic closed out the game with a stellar performance. His FB was 87-89 MPH with a feel to throw the pitch up in the zone and a powerful sinker with heavy life down in the zone at 83-85 MPH which collected soft ground ball contact. Kopp dropped in a solid vertically shaped CB at 77-81 MPH which shows potential as a swing/miss offering. Kopp tossed a pair of scoreless innings to close out the win.
Offensively, the squad of players from California featured prominently in the offensive output for Team West Coast including a strong day from Catcher Michael Nonis of Centennial High School who collected a pair of knocks including a 98+ MPH RBI single. Connor Clayton of West Ranch High School has posted strong at bats over both games and picked up a pair of walks again while stinging an RBI single up the middle the switch hitter has reached base via walk or hit in six of his seven at bats. Mason Crang of San Marcos High School added a double for the offensive output with a walk again. Jetner Welch of Santa Barbara High School has put together strong at bats over both games and collected his second hit of the event with an RBI up the middle on a 95+ MPH barrel while also drawing a walk and stole a pair of bases while scoring on a wild pitch. Drew Hamburger of Homestead High School turned around a double to LF that drove in a run as part of what has been an outstanding two games for the NorCal product.
Team West coast will conclude their three game set with a night time matchup against Team Mid-Atlantic.
