Hustle Baseball Academy Scout Day: Takeaways

On Wednesday, October 15th the Prep Baseball New Jersey staff traveled to Riverbank Park, for the Hustle Baseball Academy Scout Day.

This event is always a great opportunity for us to get our eyes on the talented players within the Hustle Baseball organization and this year's showcase proved to be a success.

We wanted to take the time to highlight a number of the standout players from the event in a Takeaways story, found below.

Position Players

1B Niko West (Gill St. Bernard S, 2027) led the way offensively with the event highs in exit velocity of 97.6 mph and max distance of 359 feet. The first baseman boasts a strong frame of 6-foot-3 and 215-pounds. West was also the event leader with a 90.9 mph average exit velocity. He displayed his ability to consistently elevate the baseball with power.

OF John Deveau (Seton Hall Prep, 2027) is a 5-foot-11 and 165-pound outfielder that led the event with a 7.05 sixty-yard dash and also peaked at 19.3 mph. From the outfield he threw 84 mph and displayed fundamental footwork. Offensively, he produced a max exit velocity of 91.6 mph with a line drive approach. 

Two-way Players
 

 OF/LHP Justin Meakem (Lakeland, 2026) has a lean, wiry frame of 6-foot-1 and 185-pounds. On the mound he led the event with a fastball peaking at 85 mph and sat 81-84 mph. He flashed a curveball at 67-70 mph with over an average 2,000 rpm spin rate. From the outfield his arm talent peaked at 86 mph. Offensively, Meakem displayed his ability to pull the ball with authority, peaking at an exit velocity of 90.6 mph.


OF/RHP Nico Gingerelli-Leone (Seton Hall Prep, 2029) the freshman was a standout player with a projectable frame of 6-foot and 170-pounds. The two-way prospect flashed an upper 70s fastball with over 21 inches of induced vertical break. At the plate, Nico had one of the most consistent rounds of BP and peaked at an exit velocity of 96.1 mph.


 

SS/RHP Noah Vargas (Seton Hall Prep, 2029) is an athletic two-way prospect that led all infielders with an 85 mph arm strength from shortstop. Noah topped 80.2 mph from the mound and sat 78-80 mph. He also flashed a tight slider that was 68-70 mph. Offensively, he displayed some quick bat speed that produced a max exit velocity of 92.7 mph. 

Pitchers

 RHP Roman Rowbotham (Wayne Valley, 2027) is a 6-foot-2 and 195-pound right-handed pitcher. Roman sat 80-83 mph and peaked at 83.3 mph with a shorter, deceptive arm action. His fastball also produced up to 20.7 inches of induced vertical break. He also flashed a slider that was 67-70 mph with a spin rate up to 2,373 rpm. 

RHP Javier Bonfante (Summit, 2027) has a lean, athletic, wiry frame of 5-foot-11 and 161-pounds. Javier displayed a four pitch arsenal that included a fastball, sinker, curveball, and changeup. He threw his fastball 79-80 mph and topped at 80.6 mph while maintaining in the strike zone. His curveball was 72-74 mph and had a spin rate up to 2,279 rpm. Javier's changeup was gripped similarly to a splitter and was 73-74 mph with a spin rate as low as 1,104 rpm.
