Coming off a 19-33 season, Coach Tomter and his staff will look to gain more traction going into the 2026 season. The Bobcats will go into this season having lost some of the top bats in the school's history in Ashton Kampa and Brayden Pleau. The combination of the added experience of the sophomore class, a promising freshman class on both sides of the ball, and two transfer pitchers who will look to make an immediate impact, the Bobcats will look to hit the ground running come spring. Let's take a deeper dive into how things could shape out for the Bobcats this upcoming season and some names to keep an eye on.

PITCHERS

While the Bobcats did see valuable arms graduate, they still got a lot of innings out of the freshman class last year. The Bobcats pitching staff will likely see more workload out of sophomore Jake Ross who saw 45.1 innings on the mound last year as a freshman, tallying 36 strikeouts and a 5.76 ERA. Similarly, Landon Raygo (Central Michigan) and Elijah Niemiec were impact arms as freshmen last year, eating up a combined 64.2 innings, and will be looking to take on a bigger role this year as well. The Bobcats pitching staff should get some very meaningful innings out of three transfer pitchers, Parker BleckNick Heisl, and Parker Meifert who were all consistently in the upper 80's at their scout day this fall, with Meifert touching 92 mph. Below is what our staff had to say about them this past September.

  •  SO. RHP Parker Bleck (Xavier, WI) is an impact transfer arm that saw time as a freshman at Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Standing at 6-foot-5, 210-pounds with physical strength throughout his frame and room to continue to add to his frame. Easy and athletic mover for his size with feel to repeat his delivery, stretch only, preset hip hinge into a drop and drive lower half, working in line to the plate with extension down the mound. Arm works loose and clean, working in sync and on time with arm speed through release. Showed six different pitches throughout his ‘pen, the four-seam played with life out of the hand sitting 88 mph throughout. Also showed a cutter and sinker, the cutter sat in the mid-80s with late and tight cutting action, working in the zone with feel to throw to his glove-side. The sinker sat 85-87 mph with heavy running action, flashing hard sinking action. Two breaking balls, the slider sat 76-77 with sharp and big two-plane action, the curveball sat 69-72 mph with bigger 11/5 action. Finished off his arsenal with a low-80s changeup heavy depth, averaging -0.3” of IVB with feel to locate in the zone. Starters look with a frame to maintain a heavy workload with multiple potential swing and miss offerings against either handed batter.

  • RFR. RHP Nicholas Heisl (Germantown, WI) stands at 6-foot, 170-pounds with lean strength and room to add to his frame. An impact transfer arm with upside throughout his arsenal and innate feel to spin multiple sharp breaking balls. Showed feel to repeat a simple delivery throughout the ‘pen. The fastball sat 86-88 T89 mph with life out of the hand with an average spin rate of 2,483 rpms. Two breaking balls, the curveball sat 74-75 mph with an average spin rate of 3,205 rpms with sharp downer action. The slider was thrown harder at 76-78 mph with an average spin rate of 3,215 rpms with big two plane action. Both breaking balls offer swing and miss upside against either handed batter and have played in and out of the zone in game as a prep. Rounding off his arsenal Heisl flashed a changeup at 81-82 mph.
  • SO. RHP Elijah Niemiec (St. Thomas More, WI) is an impact sophomore that struck out 30 batters across 25 innings last spring. Standing at 6-foot-5, 205-pounds with strength throughout his frame. The right-hander showed feel to repeat his strength only delivery, the arm played clean with quickness through release from a 3/4 slot. The fastball played with life sitting 86-88 mph throughout the pen. Showed feel to spin two breaking balls, both in the low-70s, the slider played with big sweeping action, the curveball played with bigger 11/5 action. Rounding off his arsenal Niemiec turned over a quality changeup with considerable depth averaging 0.5” of IVB.
  • SO. RHP Hayden Christman (Oconomowoc, WI) stands at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds and showed feel for his entire arsenal throughout his ‘pen. The fastball sat 84-85 T86 mph with life out of the hand throughout from a low-3/4 slot. Feel for two quality secondaries with over 40” of movement on average between the two pitches. Showed feel to spin a sharp slider at 73-75 mph with an average of -19.8” of HM with two-plane action spinning at an average spin rate of 2,632 rpms. Rounding off his arsenal was a heavy fading changeup at 77-78 mph with 21.7” of HM and looks to be an option against both handed batters.

Even though the Bobcats will lean on these sophomore arms heavily, they'll still need support from their incoming freshmen, and a promising freshman class at that. The long-levered right-hander Braden Bothe could certainly be an impact freshman, showcasing physical upside and feel for four pitches during his bullpen at the scout day. Eliot Roethle is a Watertown product looking to make an immediate impact, coming off a senior season in which he finished second in ERA for the Goslings. Two-way Seth Lingford from East Troy has a physical 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame with a smooth, left-handed 3/4 arm action and a heavy fastball that plays well up in the zone. He could be another newcomer that makes an immediate impact on both sides of the ball. Similar to Lingford, Mason Sommer is another big, physical left-hander who has the stuff to provide valuable innings for the Bobcats, running his fastball up to 91 mph at a showcase in March. To round it up, Nathan Kasten from Whitnall could see some quality innings, as he impressed during his bullpen at the scout day, touching 86 mph with his fastball. Here's what our staff had to say about the freshman arms they saw at the scout day.
  • FR. RHP Braden Bothe (Campbellsport, WI) is an upside freshman for the Bobcats standing at a long levered and lean 6-foot-5, 150-pound frame with significant room for strength and physical development. Showing feel to sync up his levers and delivery consistently throughout his ‘pen, compact mover with slight extension down the mound, the arm works clean and uninterrupted from a ¾ slot with arm speed. Showed feel for four pitches throughout the ‘pen, the fastball sat 83-84 mph with running action throughout. Two breaking balls, the slider sat 70-73 with big sweeping action averaging -22.4” of HM with a 2,313 avg spin rate. The curveball sat in the same velo bucket at 70-73 with big two-plane action with an average spin rate of 2,489 rpms. Rounding off his arsenal Bothe showed a heavy fading changeup at 75-79 mph flashing heavy fading action averaging 18” of HM.
  • FR. RHP Eliot Roethle (Watertown, WI) is another high-upside freshman for the Bobcats, standing at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds with clear room to continue to add strength to his frame. Showing feel for an athletic delivery with extension down the mound and an athletic arm action with arm speed showing feel for a four pitch mix with an upper-80s fastball with life out of the hand that flashed carry at the top of the zone while spinning at 2,470 rpms on average. Spun two different breaking balls, the curveball sat 75-77 mph with two-plane action, the slider sat 77-78 mph with tight action. Rounding off his arsenal, Roethle killed spin on a diving changeup at 77-78 mph.

  • FR. LHP/DH Seth Lingford (East Troy, WI) is another upside freshman arm for the Bobcats. Standing at a strong and athletic 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame with broad shoulders. The left-hander flashed feel to repeat his delivery, working down the mound with a crossfire finish, the arm worked quick and uninterrupted with noticeable arm speed from a 3/4 slot. The fastball sat 85-87 mph flashing carry up in the zone, averaging 16.5” of IVB. Showed feel to spin a quality breaking ball at 72-75 mph with an average spin rate of 2,561 rpms and -7.7” of IVB. His slider was thrown in the same velo bucket with right two-plane action, rounding off his arsenal Lingford flashed a fading changeup with -15.5” of HM.

  •  FR. RHP Nathan Kasten (Whitnall, WI) is another upside freshman standing in at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds with room to continue to add strength to his frame. The right-hander works out of the hybrid delivery working in rhythm with a crossfire finish to the plate. The fastball sits 83-85 mph with heavy sinking action while averaging 19.6” of HM. The slider sat 74-75 mph with tight horizontal action and feel for the zone before showing feel to turn over a heavy fading changeup to round off his arsenal.

Offense

As mentioned before, the Bobcats lost some thump at the top of their lineup, which means they will need their returners to step up this year. This sophomore class will be lead by Bradyn Nelson (Lindenwood), who hit to a .361/.421/.765 clip with 22 extra-base hits and 11 home runs, earning him 2nd team all region honors as a freshman. Sophomore infielder Josh Diorio could take a huge leap this year for the Bobcats, coming off a freshman campaign where he collected 11 hits, including two doubles and a home run in 48 at bats. Carsen Dulak is another returner who could see a big jump in production this year, going 12 for 37 as a freshman and looking to take on a bigger role this spring. Middle infielder Jacob Garth could take a big leap in his sophomore campagne as well. As a freshman last year, Garth hit .370 with eight doubles across 54 at-bats while tallying 10 stolen bases before his season was ended due to injury. Let's take a look at what our staff had to say about these four sophomores.

  • SO. OF Bradyn Nelson (Oconomowoc, WI) is the top returning bat in the Bobcats lineup being named 2nd Team All-Region as a freshman after batting .361/.421/.765 with 22 extra-base hits and 11 home runs. Standing at a strong 6-foot, 195-pounds with room to continue to add strength, started his day running a 6.64 60-yard dash with a 1.56 10-yard split with game speed. At the plate, the right handed hitter was able to find the barrel throughout BP with feel to drive the ball to both gaps, reaching a max exit velo of 97.3 mph throughout the round. Defensively in the outfield, attacking the baseball with ease and confident actions with arm strength up to 85 mph
  • SO. INF Joshua Diorio (Whitnall, WI) strong and physical right-handed corner infielder with strength throughout his 6-foot-1, 215-pound frame. The ball jumped off the barrel reaching a max exit velo of 101.7 throughout his round with a max distance of 370 feet. Defensively at third, showing clean and confident actions with steady and reliable hands with arm strength up to 87 mph that plays from the left side of the diamond with accuracy.
  • SO. MIF Jacob Garth (Stevens Point Area, WI) returns after a successful freshman season where he hit .370 with eight doubles across 54 at-bats before an injury ended his season twitchy athlete standing at 5-foot-7, 156-pounds with strength and room to continue to add to his frame. Garth started his day running a 6.64 60-yard dash with a 1.61 10-yard dash with speed that translates in game, stealing 10 bases last spring. At the plate the right-handed hitter was on the barrel throughout his round, mostly to the pull side, handsy and on-plane path taking tight turns to the baseball. Reached a max exit velo of 91.3 throughout his round with repeated line drive and fly ball contact.
  • SO. OF Carsen Dulak (Germantown, WI) stands at a strong 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame, started the day running a 7.08 60-yard dash. Defensively in the outfield, attacking and working through the baseball with arm strength up to 89 mph.

The freshman class is very promising for this Bobcat squad, and could have a huge impact from the jump. Brothers Calvin Hurtgen and Jacob Hurtgen from Watertown could see big roles early, with them finishing first and second in batting average their senior year for the Goslings. Andrew Carlson and Mac Wagner could see significant time this year as well as true freshmen, both physical, and well developed infielders. Let's take a look at what our staff had to say about the Hurtgen brothers.

  • FR. OF Jacob Hurtgen (Watertown, WI) stands at 5-foot-10, 165-pounds with strength and room to continue to fill out. Started his day running a 6.96 60-yard dash, before taking a quality round of BP. The left-handed hitter was on the barrel throughout, driving the ball in the air consistently to right center while reaching a peak exit velo of 89.1 mph throughout the round. Defensively the outfielder thales natural and athletic routes to the baseball with clean feet with foot speed and arm strength up to 88 mph.
  • FR. C Calvin Hurtgen (Watertown, WI) is a 5-foot-10, 178-pound catcher with a high end ceiling defensively. Hurtgen started the day running a 6.81 60-yard dash with a 1.64 10-yard split. Behind the plate, Hurtgen has earned the reputation of a quality defender from his days as a prep and showed real tools behind the plate during the workout. Quality and confident receiver that can handle velo and spin to all areas of the zone, natural and instinctive blocker to pair with twitch and bend. The catch and throw stands out, clean and quick transfer with arm strength up to 85 mph with pop times in the 1.87-1.94 range. At the plate, the right-handed hitter was on the barrel to the pull side throughout his round reaching a max exit velo of 89.9 mph while consistently driving the ball in the air.
