West Tennessee Fall Games: Quick Hits

Hunter Martin
Tennessee Scouting Director

MILLINGTON, TN — The West Tennessee Fall Games was held at USA Stadium in Millington, TN on Saturday, November 8th that featured top talent from the 2026-2029 classes. Players went through a pro-style workout with TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance tech, while pitchers threw in a game play setting and were able to get data and metrics on our TrackMan unit.

Some prospects built on past showings, while others made strong first impressions.

We continue our post-event coverage with a look at the some of the top performers from the event, with more breakdowns and full scouting reports coming soon.

QUICK HITS

Jr Mathis 1B / 3B / Battle Creek High School, TN / 2027

Mathis put on a show in the power department in both the showcase and gameplay portions of the West TN Fall Games. He hit multiple balls over the fence in BP, including one that was hit at 98.2 MPH and sent 386 ft.. The 6’3”, 210 lb. corner infielder lifts the ball well by consistently dropping the bat head and keeping his hands inside. He put this on display in gameplay as he smoked a ball to the pull side for a base hit. He also pairs that with solid speed as a 7.1-second 60-yard dash time that will only increase as he gets stronger. The power profile from JR will only continue to rack up power numbers and create eye-popping exit velos.

Alex Potter RHP / 3B / Dickson County, TN / 2028

When you need someone to eat innings and limit damage on the mound while being an on-base machine at the plate, look no further than Alex Potter. The 2024 Junior Future Games Alumni is known for his elite control of the strike zone and the ability to spin his pitches well at a high velocity. Alex reached career highs on fastball velo and spin at the West TN Fall Games, topping out at 87.3 MPH and 2040-2240 RPM. Alex’s hitting performance is what stood out the most over the weekend. Alex displayed a consistent, line-drive approach to the gaps and hit a double into the left-center gap for a standup double. Statistically, Potter hit a max exit velo of 92 MPH and showed great bat control with a 77% sweet spot rating. Potter shows significant upside as a two-way talent at the next level.

Hudson Snell 1B / RHP / Collierville, TN / 2027

When you find a player that can consistently hit the ball hard like Hudson, you can feel confident that there's a good chance runs will be scored each AB. Snell continued his power streak from the Beast National Scout Day earlier this fall into the West TN Fall Games. The 6’4”, 200 lb. first baseman had an average exit velocity of 90 MPH while hitting a max exit velocity of 96 MPH in BP. Hudson is very sound in his swing mechanics, which are complemented by his good lower half and natural power. Almost every single swing that we've seen from Hudson this fall in BP, has been a home run to the pull side. The uncommitted Collierville Dragon will bring extra thunder to wherever he goes next.

Ben Gant 3B / RHP / Centennial, TN / 2027

Continues to impress the staff two weeks in a row coming to FTB Scout Day and West Fall Games. In both events, Gant proved to be a high level defender with a profile that fits as a third baseman with a strong arm up to 86 MPH and a reliable glove with good footwork. As a runner, Gant has gotten 6.86 60 and moves well with a strong frame at 6’0 185 lbs. At the plate, Gant has a whippy swing with a strong lower half and hits well from his front side. His exit velocities have consistently been in the upper 90’s and keeps the ball on a low trajectory. Gant will be a sought after corner infielder that has the chance to be a middle of the order at the next level.

Drew Wagner 3B / OF / Lipscomb Academy, TN / 2028

Had a huge day flashing at every facet of the game. Wagner has a big, athletic build standing at 6’3 190 lbs. He moves well with a 6.79 60 time. Defensively, Wagner projects as a power hitting corner infielder and flashes clean glove work with some work to do with his feet. His arm also plays at the corner already up to 86 MPH that comes out very clean. At the plate, Wagner topped out at 100 MPH in BP and continued his big day in game play going 3-3 with 2 doubles and a triple. Wagner showed incredibly quick hands with great balance that allowed him to keep the ball gap to gap. Going into 2026, Wagner will be a sophomore to watch for the defending state champion Lipscomb Academy Mustangs.

Bennett Hunter OF / RHP / Battle Creek High School, TN / 2027

The Battle Creek product came on as unknown for our staff as this was our first chance to see him perform. Hunter impressed early on defense showing clean actions in the outfield with good timing and footwork while also popping an 89 MPH top velocity. At the plate, Hunter showed strong hands and up to 90 MPH exit velocity. The setup at the plate is very simple with a toe tap at the start. Hunter skills will only improve as he goes into his junior year where he should get looks as a true two way at the next level.

Wyatt Haskins LHP / OF / Independence, TN / 2028

We got our first look at the young left-handed pitching prospect and man did he show everything and then some. Strong frame with plenty of more to work into as he matures. The metrics speak for themselves where he sat 84-85 with late life down in the zone that generated consistent swing and misses. The breaking-ball still needs some refinement but shows the ability to manipulate and throw for strikes consistently. The changeup is a legit weapon at 77-78 with killed spin and true horizontal tilt that worked away from right-handers, generating whiffs. He would rack up multiple K’s, while only allowing one base runner. He will be someone that we continue to watch as his high school career unfolds.

Lane Estes RHP / 3B / Chester County, TN / 2027

A former two-time Prep Baseball Junior Future Game participant, Estes missed last season due to coming off of an arm injury. He looks like he is back to his former self and man did he look impressive Saturday mowing hitters down, while consistently getting ahead in advantage counts. Lived 86-88 with significant ride on the heater, gathering consistent whiffs. The slider was impressive and generated flash backs from two summers ago where we saw him last in a competitive game environment. Sat 74-77 with good rpm’s with over a foot of average horizontal break, while also throwing it for strikes. The changeup continues to get better where he lived in the 77-78 range with 1300 spin while throwing strikes and getting bad swings or whiffs. A guy that I was high on two years ago and still feel the same today and will be a name to know as he looks fully back.

Landon Smith RHP / Lewisburg, MS / 2027

The ‘27 class prospect from Lewisburg should fill right into their longstanding tradition of putting out talented prep arm. Physical frame at 6 foot 4 and 205 pounds. Shows a lot of strength in the lower half that screams significant velo jumps in the coming years. Would sit 84-86, topping 87 with straight vertical averaging over 21 inches of average ride through the zone. Major weapon up in the zone that consistently got on top of hitters barrels for easy pop-ups. Would flash a slider in the 75-79 range that generated a consistent shape, while also being effective in the zone. Shows the makings of two above average offerings and looks likely to continue to develop his changeup.
