The Morton College Panthers aim to build on last year’s 25-32 season, which concluded with an early exit from the Region IV tournament. Despite the early playoff exit, the Panthers showed plenty of promise, as Coach Wido guided the team to a strong 9-5 record in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play, earning a third-place finish. The 2024-2025 roster was loaded with freshmen, and the program will bring back 21 returners to campus this spring, including six starters from last year’s lineup and a wealth of pitching experience. With that experience now blending with new talent and incoming transfers, it will be interesting to see how the group comes together this season.
PITCHERS
The Panther pitching staff will return over 203 innings on the mound, bringing valuable experience that should provide strong support this spring. Leading the staff last year was right-handed sophomore Joey Zietara, returning after striking out 68 batters across 63.1 innings, posting a 4-3 record with a team-best 2.70 ERA. Another player expected to make a continued impact from last year is sophomore right-hander Jack Roessler, who saw significant innings as a freshman tossing 43.2 innings. Rounding out the staff of key returners in the rotation is a duo of lively right-handed arms in Parker Brown and Merrick Hill. The pair combined for 35.2 innings last season and are expected to take on a more impactful role this spring. Both feature firm upper-80s fastballs and effective offspeed offerings, with Brown touching 91 mph.
