2027 Top-9 Uncommitted: LHP

By: California Scouting Staff

With the fall and summer circuits behind us and the 2027 State Rankings being released at the end of the summer, we’re taking a look at some of the top uncommitted players within this update. Today, we are taking a look at the top-9 uncommitted left-handed pitchers. This list is full of impact arms that are still looking for a home.

Note: This list was gathered from the Prep Baseball California rankings page, sorted by 2027 prospects and then left-handed pitchers.

2027 TOP-9 UNCOMMITTED: LHP

Jose Partida LHP / 1B / Cathedral Catholic San Diego, CA / 2027

From 4/10/25: “This was my first look at Jose Partida this year following his transfer sit-out period, and the ‘27 southpaw delivered a strong debut performance. He threw 5 innings against Grossmont, allowing 2 runs and striking out 5 in a solid first outing to kick off his 2025 season. While he didn’t record a plate appearance, Partida was efficient on the mound and kept Cathedral Catholic within reach of a comeback win. What stood out most was his command of the changeup, which consistently disrupted hitters’ timing, and paired well with a CB/SL mix that induced some whiffs. His off-speed feel is advanced for a sophomore, and he wasn’t afraid to challenge hitters early, pounding the zone with a fastball that topped at 88 mph. Grossmont capitalized early in the first inning, but Partida showed maturity by settling in from innings two through four and keeping damage limited. As a two-way lefty with both mound presence and polish, Partida looks poised to build off this outing, not just on the hill, but with the bat as well.”

Cooper Barnes LHP / 1B / De LA Salle High School, CA / 2027

Cooper had a very good sophomore year for a talented De La Salle squad. Went 5-1 with a 2.38 ERA on the high school season. 35K and only 5 BB, the southpaw fan really pound the zone with strikes and his secondaries got a lot of outs. The velocity is going to tick up in the next two years too.

Cooper Benjamin LHP / OF / Marin Catholic High School, CA / 2027

From 7/24/25

Positional Profile: LHP/OF LHP with deep mix. Attacks hitters early with mix that displays good shapes across the board. Starter upside, with room to add velocity.
Body: 6-0, 182-pounds. Wiry frame with room for further physicality as he develops.
Delivery: Slow, controlled windup that uses a medium-high leg kick to maintain rhytym. Hands start at chest level, with little movement, before syncing up with the front leg. Moves down the mound well with long stride length. Shows good feel for blocking with his plant leg, while maintaining consistent stride.
Arm Action: LH. Full arm path out of the glove that initially works downward, creating natural accelaration as he works up to a high 3/4 slot. Displays looseness in arm-action and gets to consistent release.
FB: T87, 85-87 mph. FB shows good ride and carries well through the zone. Shows ability to run in on LHH when thrown inside. Can generate whiffs and weak contact up in the zone and plays well on outer third to LHH. Has room to add velocity with better extension. T2229, 2129 average rpm.
CB: 75-75 mph. High spin offering, with slurve-like action. Displays 11-5 drop with good sweep. Generates swing-and-miss when thrown below the zone. 2604 average rpm.
SL: 74-76 mph. High spin SL, with good glove side action. Tunnels well with FB up, getting called strikes to LHH early in counts. Effective as chase pitch late. T2555, 2352 average rpm.
CH: 79-80 mph. Fading CH, with good arm-side run and ability to create vertical depth. Effective on inner third against LHH, tunneling well off the FB. T1529, 1433 average rpm.

Mac Kennedy LHP / SIERRA CANYON SCHOOL, CA / 2027

Che Thomas Coleman LHP / OF / Loyola High School, CA / 2027

From 9/8/25: Thomas popped up during the SoCal Scouts Association Scout League in fall of 2024 to earn his way onto the board and then had solid sophomore year at the Mission League based Loyola program. He then earned a spot on the MLB Breakthrough squad at the Area Codes Underclass event where he looked the part up against other top 2027 players from around the country. Playing for the Braves team in the same scout league this fall, Hardesty had a chance to get eyes on him for the opening weekend off scout league on top of the look at Area Codes where the two-way product looks to steadily be getting better and earns himself a 6 spot move up the board.”

Tanner Wilson LHP / Santa Barbara High School, CA / 2027

From 4/8/25: “Wilson intrigued me with a solid live look back in January where he showed a feel for a three pitch mix (FB/SLD/CHG), ability to throw strikes and a solid delivery foundation. Having spent most of the spring piggybacking with the Dons starter on Tuesdays and has put together a solid Soph. campaign on the varsity level and this day was no different. Working predominantly off his FB-SLD mix the two offerings are solid present pitches with the FB living at 80-82 MPH while featuring sink/run to the arm side which sets up his interesting SLD in the 69-73 MPH range which showed biting life to the glove side when thrown in the 72-73 MPH range including an ability to induce whiff/chase from both RH and LH hitters. Wilson dropped in a few 70-72 MPH CHGs which flash potential, but needs to polish his feel for the pitch and the pitches shape (killing lift and generating more arm side fade). With an east/west attack profile and feel to throw strikes at a high level Wilson induced heavy GB contact or soft contact from the Bulldogs lineup while picking up one strikeout. The delivery for Wilson is relatively low effort while staying online consistently through release/finish which plays to his ability to pound the strike zone that projects a future as a starter. How high the ceiling for Wilson is will be ultimately determined by adding life to his FB, power to his SLD and polishing his feel for the CHG as he continues to mature and develop. An interesting follow in the 2027 class as a solid foundation LHP who shows upside in his future profile.”
