At The Top

Central Catholic outfielder Sam Smith solidified his place atop Oregon's 2028 ranks thanks to an exceptional showing at the West Coast Super Sophomore Games. The athletic lefthander set several new personal-bests metrically in the workout portion of the event before making his mark in-game, collecting hits and flashing his speed across the field. Smith featured more lag with a flatter path through the zone in this look, working exit velocities into the low 90's with up to 84.6 MPH bat speed. Smith also clocked the best 60-yard dash time of the event, running a 6.71, and had throws up to 88 MPH from the outfield as well. The lefty already logged plenty of innings during his freshman high school season as well, and should only continue to be among the most dynamic underclassman in the state.

Elsewhere at the top, RHP Zeke Thomas holds steady at the number two spot. The multi-sport prospect has already picked up multiple D-1 offers as a quarterback, with athleticism translating to the diamond across 2025. A 6'1 arm with a power arsenal, Thomas has been seen in the mid to upper 80's with his fastball, paired with a power slider. The righty will continue to improve into 2026.

Ridgeview High School's Bennett Wyatt also stays at his previous rank in the 3rd spot. A lefty arm on the mound with a fastball into the mid-80's, Wyatt also features a righthanded swing with some gap power from a more lean, athletic 6'1 frame. Wyatt joins a talented group of underclassman out of Ridgeview that could make some noise at the state level this spring.

Super Sophomore Games Standouts

Several of Oregon's best 2028's were in attendance in Eugene at the West Coast Super Sophomore Games this September, including #8 ranked Beau Johnson. The OF/RHP out of Wilsonville High School carried over a quality look at PNW State Games in the summer to SSG, where his consistent LH swing and twitchy toolset were on display. Johnson's strong year overall was highlighted by a 6.93 60-time and throws up to 86 MPH from the outfield. He also flashed at times on the mound with a fastball at 82.5 MPH and two different breaking balls, and while the command came and went in this look, the pitching could play moving forward.

LHP Ryker Hartlaub has proven to be as steady as they come on the mound, filling up the strike zone from the left side with feel and an ability to live on the corners. A high-slot fastball at 80-83 MPH carries some sink, mixed in with a CH and breaking ball both in the low 70's. Hartlaub is as sure of a bet as any in the class to be a starting pitcher moving forward.

Another Summit High School product, INF Evan Guadalupe was one of the bigger winners coming out of the event. The 6'0 infielder started his event strong with a new-best 7.17 second run time, before also producing throws up to 87 MPH across the diamond. The longer righthanded swing produces some loud contact when right, highlighted by exit velocities up to 94.9 MPH. Guadalupe was on base consistently during gameplay and made multiple defensive plays, showcasing his ability as a left side of the diamond prospect.

Other Fall Winners

At the PNW Fall Games this October, LHP/OF Landen Pratt had a great performance on the mound, earning him a spot in the latest rankings update. The Hood River Valley product featured a simple, repeatable wind with a clean break and arm stroke into a 3/4 slot release, generating soft contact with a lower-spin arsenal. The FB sat 80-82 MPH with a CB/SL offspeed combination. Pratt is also a 7.29 runner with throws up to 85 MPH from the outfield.

RHP Danner Wertz offered an intriguing look at Super Sophomore Games. The powerful 6'4, 238 pound frame looked the part physically. Wertz featured a fastball up over 80 MPH at its best and commanded well to the glove side at times. A 3/4 slot release was consistent when throwing both his CB and SL. Wertz also generated harder contact with ease, peaking with a 95.4 MPH exit velocity at the plate.

Clackamas outfielder Noah Martin is another prospect making his 2028 ranks debut, showing steady growth in his latest look. The smooth swinging lefty maintains a tight coil and sees the ball deep at the plate, driving pitches north of 320 feet in BP. Martin ran a 7.2 in the 60 yard dash, with bigger jumps in his metrics expected as he continues to develop. Martin will be in attendance at the Corvallis Preseason ID this February.
