Final 2025 Rankings Update: Class of 2028
December 2, 2025
Our class of 2028 rankings have been updated and expanded to 200 names as this group heads into their sophomore spring. This is the year where this group truly gets put under the microscope - looking to make big impacts for their respective varsity teams as they inch closer and closer to the recruiting window opening on August 1st of 2026. Our staff remains super excited for this group, arguably our deepest class in recent years when considering all of the talent this class features on both sides of the ball.
While this list still feels far from incomplete, largely still an identifier list once we get past the highly-touted names at the top, we expect several names to make jumps in 2026 and our staff will be out in full force to recognize those that continue to do the work to elevate their stock.
Without further ado, we dig into the depth of this class, and while the top of the list remains largely unchanged (minimal changes in the T20) - we do see some names elevate in this update after increasing their value on the fall circuit.

State of the Class
+ The class remains headlined by two bonafide stars from the southwest corner of the state, #1 ranked prospect SS Dylan Murphy (clip), and #2 ranked prospect (& the top-ranked pitcher on our board) RHP Cole Breeden. Since the inception of this list, these two players have held down the title as the top player for their position group, and they did nothing but cement those evaluations even further in 2025. CF Canyon Koonce, our top-ranked OF and the #2 position player on our board, saw a rise in 2025 after breaking onto the varsity scene and showing as just a rookie that he will be a force to be wrecken with for the next three years. Another riser, #4 prospect and top-ranked LHP Ty Pohl, saw much of the same rise in 2025. Pohl showed all traits necessary to be a highly-touted arm in a dominant Midwest Super Sophomore Games outing vs. a stout group of Team Illinois hitters, oozing starters' traits with an advanced arsenal of pitches that he has feel for. While Koonce and Pohl stand as the biggest winners of 2025, three names remain amongst the top 7 in the class that have been there since the beginning in OF Mason Biernacki, SS/RHP Billy Miller, and SS Jack Whaley. This crop of seven high-end prospects remain regarded in the T200 of our Prep Baseball National rankings, highlighting the high-end depth that this class boasts.

⚡Arm Talent⚡
+ Beyond the headliners of Breeden, Pohl, and Miller, this class fully embodies the phrase Shooter Hunt uses so often to describe our state - "Jumpshots and Power Fastballs".
We not only see high-end arm talent at the top of this class, but it is loaded with quality depth. That depth begins with our two tier-1 contenders, LHP Luke Hensley and RHP Bishop Moore. Hensley showed throughout the summer of '25 that he was here to stay, developing into a powerful, 6-foot-5 lefty that holds both immense upside and present abilities to miss bats. The ceiling remains uncapped for Hensley, as it does for Moore, a 3-sport, 6-foot-7 unicorn athlete armed with a fastball that touched 90 mph at the Super Sophomore Games in August. RHP Drew Morgan further cemented himself amongst this elite tier of arms with a steady fall circuit that featured consistent performances and slight uptick in velocity. Defining projectable as a 6-foot-4, 165-pounder, Morgan oozes starters' traits with feel for a three-pitch mix that includes a fastball reaching 88 mph this fall, and one of the top sliders we've evaled in the class. Another special athlete follows closely, just outside the top 10 as our No. 13 overall prospect, RHP/UTL Braylon Storey. Storey owns the top fastball we saw of this class in 2025, reaching 91 mph, and his athleticism (also a 6.49 runner who can reach triple digit exit velocities) and elite arm talent will likely tick further as we near August 1st.

As we move on through the list, the seven names mentioned before establish the base of a loaded crop of arms, but we also have some real contenders who will look to push that group in their sophomore season. None come with a more electric arm than RHP Gavin McGee, a 6-foot righty that was up to 89 on multiple occasions in 2025 while showing the makings of a wipeout breaking ball at times. McGee sees a small rise, landing at No. 16 overall in this update as a T300 prospect nationally. RHP/UTL Spencer Schiff, and RHP Darret Branson, making up two of the "Fab Five" underclassmen at Mater Dei, are another pair of high-floor, strike-throwing right-handers that remain well-inside the Top 20 as we head into 2026. RHP Bodhi Pulley remains a name-to-know arm in this class, presenting massive intrigue with an upper-80s fastball that he pairs with a slider that will spin north-of 3000 RPM, while RHP/SS Matthew Kulig and RHP/3B Finn Steiner remain on his heels with all traits necessary to continue to make jumps.

Middle-of-the-Diamond Athletes
As we flip back over to the position side of things, Murphy, Koonce, Biernacki, Miller, and Whaley headline a class filled with middle of the diamond talent.
CF Andrew Noble saw a rise into the Top 10 in our last update, and retains his status there, also leading the Rocks in receiving this fall on the gridiron as they made a 6A State Title appearance. Already a plus runner, Noble's hit tool shined on the summer circuit and is expected to make a big impact to an already-talented Westfield lineup this spring after making the most of his varsity opportunities as a freshman with a .333/.444/.467 slash. Another middle of the diamond athlete we expect to make a big splash in 2026 is SS Callum Birdzell, who figures to mix into a stout Cathedral lineup as a sophomore. Our #4 ranked SS, and #15 overall 2028, Birdzell was another summer winner who will look to ride the helium he caught then into the spring for a top-ranked club. To round out this group of highly-touted athletes, OF Hayden Zellers remains nestled inside the Top 20, where he has been since the inception of this list. A standout for Greenfield-Central's 2025 Regional Championship team as just a freshman, Zellers looks to take another step up this spring with a sweet left-handed stroke and impact foot speed.

Several contenders that we have ranked inside the Top 30 heading into the winter will look to push the names above in 2026, beginning with Fall State Games standout, SS Drew Dalton. Dalton is a riser in this update, a 6-foot, 170-pounder that hit over .300 for Decatur Central as a freshman, along with boasting above average power numbers for a freshman (6 doubles, 2 homers). Along with the hints of power he showed last spring, he elevates his stock with his run tool showing an upgrade at the FSG, turning in a 6.78 60-yard dash. He is tiered with SS's Ty White (Plainfield), Brody McGaha (Mooresville), and Donovan Craig (Munster), all appearing back to back from the No. 23 to No. 26 spot on the overall list as high-end follows for this class that our staff will get eyes on early & often next season. On the OF side of things, Jacob Forystek (Lake Central) and Leon Torres (Andrean), two Region-natives that are potential breakouts for perennial power programs, stand as T30 prospects in the class as we head into the winter with a chance to further cement themselves as sophomores.

The catching crop of this class is headlined by Cooper Nichols and Spencer Schiff. Schiff, mentioned above as one of the top right-handed arms in the class, remains just outside the top ten as the No. 12 overall prospect in the class with an array of skills that lead him to be one of the most productive in-game players in this class. Nichols remains on his heels while locking up the No. 14 overall spot in our 2028 rankings. Nichols had a huge summer, followed by a quality showing on the fall circuit while playing up a grade. Nichols will be counted on to provide a steady defensive presence, and middle of the order threat, as a sophomore for a Fort Wayne Carroll club that seems to always find a way to contend. These two are our most established backstops in the class, but we look forward to following C/RHP Matthew Fields around in 2026; a South Decatur product who provided major intrigue throughout the circuit in 2025 and lands as their closest competitor on our 2028 list.
C Cooper Nichols (@cooper__nichols) continues to look the part of a premier follow for 2028.
