This rankings update takes a look at some movement as a result of fall performances in front of our staff. There were a few different ways to get in front of our staff this fall and some players took advantage of those opportunities by showing extremely well in those settings. Today we take a look at some big risers inside of this rankings update. Each player's breakdown includes notes on their specific performance and some video from those times that we saw them.

VA/DC Class of 2028: Risers

Brady Card RHP / 3B / Gainesville High, VA / 2028

Card continues to trend in the right direction, as he had multiple strong showings this fall. He is an easy mover that throws with light intent on the mound. The fastball works in the mid-eighties and is regularly used to get ahead in counts. His ability to spin two different high spin breaking balls for strikes is the separator. The curveball is used earlier in counts, whereas the slider shows the most confidence in using it as a finisher. Holding that velocity jump that was made over the summer was encouraging. A full offseason this winter gives some excitement to what is to come this spring.

Logan Carter OF / SS / Riverbend High, VA / 2028

It was an offensive outbreak from Carter this fall as he put on a consistent offensive display. He’s a compact athlete with an above-average run tool that can impact the game in different ways. There are bat-to-ball skills that show some length through the zone. He has shown some flashes of impact in game situations that work from gap to gap. The offense that he brings is more of a table setter profile that can impact the top of the order. There is a lot to like with the offensive profile that gives more excitement to the future ability.

Isaac Elder 3B / OF / Jefferson Forest High, VA / 2028

Each look Elder continues to make impressions on our staff. He’s a long-limbed athlete at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds that still has significant room to add strength. There is adjustability and length through the zone. He has above-average bat speed and the barrel path to become a middle of the order power bat. It is more present gap-to-gap impact with doubles power. Defensively it is a corner profile in the infield and the athletic ability to move to a corner outfield.

Brian Pickersgill C / 3B / Bishop Denis J. Oconnell High School, VA / 2028

The offensive production picked up this fall, showing off the hit tool with flashes of impact to the pull side. It is a simple stroke from both sides of the plate, but the left-handed swing has shown more of the impact. Behind the plate it is average arm strength that has quick exchanges to manage the run game. It is a compact frame that could have some more power potential. What you're buying is the offensive profile that comes from behind the dish.

Cole Plummer RHP / SS / Highland School, VA / 2028

Plummer is a physical presence on the mound at 6-foot-2, 197-pounds. He throws with light intent on the mound, which gives a lot of upside to what the future fastball could be. The fastball worked up to 91 this fall, as we had seen earlier in the summer. The curveball is the second best pitch that has a bigger shape that works in the low seventies. The stuff is there in the arsenal, but the next step is finding consistency in the zone. If those things can be put into place, then Plummer has a chance to be a big name this spring.

Sammy Ranson RHP / 1B / Miller School of Albemarle, VA / 2028

Ranson strung together multiple quality outings on the mound in front of our staff this fall. He displayed his ability to mix multiple pitches for strikes and work deep into outings. The fastball works in the mid-eighties and he works to both corners early in counts. The curveball is the out pitch that has a bigger shape with some late depth. He moves well and shows quiet confidence on the mound. The frame has thinned out and has a chance to add some good strength long-term.

Aiden Skalski LHP / LHP / Ocean Lakes High, VA / 2028

Skalski was a steady presence on the mound for the defending state champions Ocean Lakes and hasn’t let up since. He brings a calm demeanor to the mound and uses his pitchability to get outs. While it isn’t overpowering stuff, he knows how to locate pitches and keep hitters guessing. The curveball is the bread and butter that he has shown the ability to land at will and generate swing and misses. When there is an eventual velocity increase, it will just help his ability to continue to get outs on the mound.

Tucker Von Herbulis SS / RHP / Glen Allen High, VA / 2028

When he steps on the field, he can find different ways to impact the game just with his natural feel for playing the game. While there is no carrying tool, he does everything on the field solid to make an imprint on the game. He works from line to line at the plate, spraying the ball to all fields. He has a fundamental foundation, which just plays to his advantage in all parts of the game. As he continues to get stronger and mature, he has a chance to make an even bigger impact in the game.

Bennett Winkelfoos RHP / SS / West Potomac High, VA / 2028

Winkelfoos is an easy mover on the mound with light intent who has shown the ability to pitch. The velocity has crept up a bit this fall and he still keeps his ability to throw strikes and generate outs. The fastball has gotten into the mid-eighties and has shown the ability to miss bats with the breaking ball. With the gradual increase in stuff and how much room there is still to add to the wiry frame, he is a name to circle to watch this spring for another possible jump.
