Inland Empire Freshmen Free: Event Analysis

On Sunday, October 26th, the Prep Baseball California staff traveled to Corona High School in Corona, CA for the Inland Empire Freshmen Free. This event gave our staff a personal look at a freshman in California.

Today, we’re taking a look at every prospect that attended the Inland Empire Freshmen Free, below.

EVENT ANALYSIS

Amar'e Hawkins, Martin Luther King Jr. High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: OF/3B
Body: 5-11, 150-pounds. Lean build with long lower half.
Hit: RHH. Stands tall and narrow with the upper body turned inward. Hands start away from the body with a vertical hand load and a long stride. Shows heavy back-foot movement during the pivot through contact. Hits consistent line drives.
Power: 86 mph max exit velocity (73.1 avg.); 299-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 74 mph. Short, over-the-top arm action, keeping throws low with consistent accuracy.
Defense: Attacks the baseball aggressively while maintaining control and balance.
Athletic Testing: 7.90 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Colt Jaekel, Vista Murrieta (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 5-8, 150-pounds. Compact frame with room to add strength, particularly in the lower half.
Hit: RHH. Sets up with slightly more weight on the back leg. Uses a timed leg lift to create a smooth weight transition to the backside, finishing balanced. Hands start above the shoulders with a slight uphill path through the zone. mph bat speed with g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 88 mph max exit velocity (78.9 avg.); 291-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 68 mph. Short hand-to-ear release behind the plate.
Defense: 2.26-2.40 pop time range; Gains ground toward 2B with a quick glove-to-hand transfer. Shows multiple crouched setups.
Athletic Testing: 8.15 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Seiji Okuno, Palos Verdes Peninsula High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: 2B/SS
Body: 5-7, 130-pounds. Compact frame with wiry athleticism.
Hit: RHH. Hands held above the ear with a small leg lift to transfer weight. Lands slightly closed off and looks to pull the ball on a line.
Power: 71 mph max exit velocity (61.7 avg.); 244-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 64 mph. OF - 65 mph. Slower, full arm circle with easy, controlled throws to the bases.
Defense: Slows feet when fielding the baseball, keeping the glove out front. Fields with two hands, both in the INF and OF.
Athletic Testing: 7.87 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Anthony Ontiveros, Chino Hills High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: OF/LHP
Body: 6-0, 155-pounds. Projectable frame with room to fill out over time.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup with slightly more weight on the back leg. Hands positioned right behind the ear, using an early stride during the load and another stride to initiate the swing. Works with a direct path, producing ground balls and line drives. mph bat speed with g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 79 mph max exit velocity (64.1 avg.); 211-foot max batted distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 65 mph. Short arm action from a 3/4 release with easy, controlled throws.
Defense: Takes a slow, controlled route to the ball, staying balanced and under control throughout the play.
Athletic Testing: 7.71 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Derek Tavarez, Paloma Valley High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 5-9, 174-pounds. Developing frame with projectable potential.
Delivery: Standard windup, staying loose throughout the motion. High leg lift with an extended drive down the mound.
Arm Action: RH. Full arm circle with an over-the-top release, adding deception by slightly hiding the ball.
FB: T78, 76-77 mph. 4-seam spin with occasional late arm-side action. T2084, 2022 average rpm.
CB: 64-66 mph. 11/5 shape with tight spin and a sharp, late sweep. T2175, 1940 average rpm.

Cashis Thayne, West Hills High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/3B
Body: 5-10, 137-pounds. Lean, athletic build within a compact frame.
Hit: RHH. Quiet swing with hands and stride working in sync through relaxed movements. Balanced setup with standard hand position. Level swing designed to produce line-drive contact.
Power: 84 mph max exit velocity (76.8 avg.); 270-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 70 mph. Short arm action from a 3/4 release with hands working from behind the ear.
Defense: Shows fluid glove-to-hand transfer while taking an athletic route to the ball and keeping feet moving throughout the play.
Athletic Testing: 7.58 runner in the 60-yard dash.
