Rising Stars on the Radar: 2028 C Matthew Madonna (North Catholic)

Nathan Goranson
Northeast Scout

Madonna was on Team Pennsylvania for the East Coast Super Sophomore Games down in North Carolina this summer. The 5-foot-9 and 180-pound catcher flashed his defensive prowess during the entire event.

Defensively, the physically stout catcher displayed his high-level receiving skills in gameplay as he continued to steal strikes for his pitchers. He consistently dominated the bottom half of the strike zone. In the showcase portion, Madonna produced a quick pop time of 1.95-2.02 and an arm strength of 78 mph. He works out of a right knee down setup and stays low throughout the entire throwing process.

Offensively, he has produced a max exit velocity of 92 mph with a max distance of 319 feet. Madonna hits with a high leg kick and has a flat bat path through the zone. He predominantly drove the baseball up the middle and to the opposite field.

Overall, this Western Pennsylvania product is shaping into a very reliable defender that can control any pitching staff that you throw at him.
