Rising Stars on the Radar: 2028 RHP Sam French (Red Bank Catholic)

Nathan Goranson
Northeast Scout

The 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher was on Team New Jersey for the East Coast Super Sophomore Games down in North Carolina. In his limited 2 innings of work, French was a standout arm for Team New Jersey.

On the mound, on top of his staggering height, French is a very uncomfortable at-bat for all hitters because of his release height that is over 7 feet high. As he moves down the mound it feels like the ball is coming from the sky. His release height is well above average compared to other high school level pitchers. French has an effective and efficient two-pitch arsenal with a fastball and curveball. His fastball typically sits 80-83 mph with over 22 inches of induced vertical break and has peaked at 83.5 mph. The curveball is 67-70 mph with a late, vertical bite. He flashed the ability to land the curveball for strikes early and he also buried the curveball in 2-strike counts and induced whiffs as well. French had an impressive outing at the ECSSG as he attacked the strike zone and induced in-zone and out-of-zone whiffs with both pitches.

Overall, this 6-foot-5 and 195-pound right-handed pitcher is a 2028 grad from the Garden State to monitor this high school season. French has the command, stuff, and frame to be a premiere arm in the Northeast.
