North Carolina Class of 2029: Initial Rankings Release
The first look at any class always brings a high level of intrigue—and the debut of the North Carolina Class of 2029 Rankings is no exception. While this group is only beginning its high school journey, Prep Baseball North Carolina has spent the past six months evaluating players across the state through workouts, tournaments, and the initial stages of the Jr. Future Games selection process. Today, we introduce the Top 25 prospects in the state, the foundation of a class that will expand significantly over the next four years.
This release reflects the earliest stages of our long-term evaluation cycle. With preseason events ahead and a full high school season on deck, the Class of 2029 board is expected to evolve rapidly. As the class progresses, the rankings will grow toward a projected Top 400 by the end of their high school careers. Throughout the coming weeks and leading into the 2026 season, Prep Baseball North Carolina will highlight standout names, breakout candidates, and early follows within this young class.
Early Evaluations, Wide Ranges
The Class of 2029 presents an unusually broad developmental range. Age differences, physical maturity, and on-field experience vary widely, and that variance is reflected in both current grades and the confidence levels assigned by our scouting staff. Many players included in this first release have only been evaluated in a limited capacity—often for the very first time during the Jr. Future Games selection process—while others are already emerging with advanced skill sets.
As the group moves into its sophomore year, expect these evaluations to firm up. With more game action, measurable data, and live looks from our scouting staff, the rankings will begin to stabilize while still allowing for continued movement and new additions.
The Rankings Process
Prep Baseball’s ranking methodology remains consistent across every class. All evaluations begin with in-person scouting, supplemented by event analytics, performance data, and video review. Each player receives a full internal grade based on tools, projection, and long-term outlook.
From there:
- Players enter a class-specific, anonymous database where all identifying information is temporarily removed.
- Rankings are sorted based solely on grades, minimizing bias and emphasizing objective evaluation.
- Names are reintroduced, followed by final adjustments from the scouting staff to ensure accuracy and fairness.
This structured approach allows our staff to build a clear, unbiased picture of each class—especially during early releases like this one, where information continues to grow with every new evaluation.
What’s Next
Over the next several weeks, Prep Baseball North Carolina will roll out positional lists, spotlight notable follows, and dive deeper into the early standouts of the Class of 2029. This first release is only the beginning for a group that will see significant change, growth, and opportunity as the high school calendar turns toward preseason workouts and the 2026 spring season.
