Rising Stars on the Radar: 2028 C Michael Alberto (Bergen Catholic)

Nathan Goranson
Northeast Scout

Alberto was a standout performer at the New Jersey Fall Top Prospect Games this past October. The 5-foot-8, 190-pound catcher has a muscular build with present lower-half strength and broad shoulders. The North Jersey product is a well-rounded hitter with both contact and power.

Offensively, the physical catcher has a direct path to the baseball that allows him to drive the baseball to all fields on a line. He has produced a max exit velocity of 96.6 mph; an 8 mph increase from the last event attended. Alberto’s swing translates very well to gameplay with his low whiff rate and high hard-hit rate of 80 percent. This past high school season, the freshman catcher was the Crusaders’ everyday catcher and produced an impressive slash line of .351 batting average, .447 on-base percentage, and a .544 slugging percentage.

Defensively, while he is a highly productive hitter, Alberto is also a standout defensive catcher that can control the running game with the best of them. He flashed a pop time of 1.89-1.90 at the Metro Scout Day this fall and he threw an event high of 80 mph down to second base at the NJ Top Prospect Games. He throws from a traditional setup with a quick transfer and replaces his back foot with minimal forward ground gained. His throw down progression translates very well into gameplay with his minimal and efficient movements.

Overall, Alberto’s blend of physical strength, advanced bat-to-ball skills, and in-game production makes him one of the most complete young catchers in New Jersey. His defensive tools—highlighted by quick, efficient actions and impact arm strength, pair seamlessly with an offensive profile that continues to trend upward. With his rapid development and ability to excel in all phases of the game, Alberto projects as a high-upside catcher whose trajectory is only moving forward.
