Over the next several weeks, Prep Baseball Washington will be unveiling our latest series of player rankings updates. Our final updates to the rankings lists this year are a culmination of looks across showcases, gameplay and other events throughout 2025.

Today, we begin our series of ranks updates by unveiling our first edition for the class of 2029. The Washington '29 class features ten prospects who have stood out in the showcase and travel ball circuit, each player carrying the ability to contribute to their respective high school programs from day one.

Below is a breakdown of some of the prospects listed in the top ten. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for complete rankings content.

At the Top

Cameron Hockett OF / RHP / Mt. Spokane, WA / 2029

One of the most dominant two-way talents in the class over the last several years, Hockett has long been a name on prospect radars and takes the top spot in our first rankings edition. A smooth-swinging lefty at the plate, Hockett stood out at last summer's Prep Baseball Junior Future Games despite being one of the youngest players at the event. The swing plays to all fields, working from a strong, balanced lower half with a quick path through the zone. The repeatability of the swing stands out in a big way, creating some natural loft in the LH swing with a whippy, longer finish. On the mound, Hockett has already run his fastball up into the mid-80's, the fastball showing cut action at times. The righty arm pairs the heater with a loopier curveball with an 11-5 shape, with plus feel and command with both offerings. Defensively, the glove plays well in all three outfield spots. Hockett's natural athleticism and quickness in all facets of his game stands out and should easily play at the high school level, and as the 6'0-6'1 frame continues to grow and fill out, Hockett carries immense upside moving forward. The Mt. Spokane product should be able to contribute immediately on both sides of the baseball this spring.

KJ Tilley 1B / LHP / Zillah High School, WA / 2029

A lean, high-waisted 6'0 athlete, Tilley's advanced hit tool has already garnered national attention in showcase circles. The lefthander sets in an upright, slightly open position, creating a slight hip hinge through his load with aggressive intent through the zone. Tilley creates plenty of loft at contact with an acceleration of the barrel through the zone that can generate extra base hits with ease. The lefty has also shown flashes on the mound, working the fastball into the low 80's with a breaking ball paired. The mechanical operation is simple and repeatable with a shorter, square land and a 3/4 to lower 3/4 slot release. Defensively, Tilley has some positional versatility, with a corner OF or 1B profile most likely down the road.

Craig Sale C / 3B / Curtis, WA / 2029

The Curtis product featues an impressive blend of physicality and skill for his underclassman status, listed 6'0, 170 pounds with a stocky-strong evenly distributed build. Sale is another prospect with high-level experience and national showcase attention. The righthanded swing features a balanced setup with a tighter, more explosive turn to contact. Sale's flatter approach yields consistent line drives with loose wrists through the zone. Defensively, Sale can man the catcher position well, but may be asked to play more 3B in his early HS years at the varsity level. The underclassman should be an early contributor to a Curtis side with an ability to make a state run in 2026.

Other Names to Know

Johnny Riley SS / RHP / Seattle Prep, WA / 2029

Another high-ability two-way prospect, Riley has generated buzz with his smooth overall game and has a real chance to work his way even higher up the rankings list in future updates. The righty swing gets on plane early and produces plenty of pop for his age, coming from an athletic 6'0 frame. Riley's glove has also been noted as advanced for his age, with enough arm to play anywhere on the diamond and a legitimate shot to stick at SS long-term. Riley has also run his fastball into the low 80's on the mound, a mixture of tools that should lend to some early varsity run at Seattle Prep.

Brody Gillaspy SS / RHP / Sumner, WA / 2029

A multi-sport athlete who has consistently been a middle of the order bat in the travel ball circuit, Gillaspy has produced in a big way over the last several years against all levels of competition. The lean frame has plenty of room to add strength, with controlled movements and feel for the barrel shown from the right side of the plate. On the mound, Gillaspy features a steady wind with a shorter arm path into a high 3/4 slot release, mixing in a FB with some run and a shorter SL as well. Gillaspy will be one of several exciting young players on an extremely talented Sumner side in 2026.

Caden Fields SS / RHP / Union, WA / 2029

A JFG alum this summer, Fields put together a well-rounded look across the workout and gameplay portions of the event. The compact-framed middle infield-type was on the barrel in BP rounds with a 7.3 60-time as well. Fields' swing stays in-sync and should continue to play well, with a more narrow setup and a loose-wristed, whippy path through the zone. Defensively, Fields moved well laterally in either direction with soft, late hands funneling smoothly. As a pitcher, the Union arm worked his fastball up to 80 MPH, paired with a plus-spin slider in the upper 60's.
