As we wrap up the Fall in the Bluegrass State, the Prep Baseball Kentucky staff is excited to present our initial 2029 rankings! Our first-ever look at the Class of 2029, the staff is excited to introduce a group of freshmen already making waves across the state. Today, we take a deeper look into the Top 5 prospects in the class!

Ty Burwash SS / C / Campbellsville, KY / 2029The top-ranked 2029 in Kentucky and a national top-125 prospect, Ty Burwash has quickly established himself as one of the premier freshmen in the region. The premium left-handed bat has shined on multiple big stages — first as a 2025 Junior Future Games standout, then again with a strong follow-up at the Fall State Games. Burwash shows an athletic, well-rounded frame at 5’11” 175 lbs, running a 7.11 second 60-yard dash with 79 mph velocity across the infield. His offensive measurables are sure to grow as he continues to develop physically, currently featuring a 92.2 mph exit velocity, 342-foot max distance, 75.3 mph top bat speed, and 23.3 mph hand speed — all advanced numbers for the class. These tools translate to game action in the high school season. As just an 8th grader, Burwash led a strong Campbellsville lineup with 33 hits, adding 26 runs, 16 RBI, 10 extra-base hits including a home run, 16 walks and 9 stolen bases across 103 at-bats — an high level of production for a middle-schooler competing against talented 5th Region arms. With advanced bat-to-ball skills, gap to gap power from the left side, and a track record of performing against older competition, expect Burwash to be a day-one offensive catalyst for Campbellsville. Expect him to quickly become a cornerstone of the Tigers’ lineup this spring!

Merrik Cornelius RHP / SS / Boyle County High School, KY / 2029At 5’11” 172 lbs, Cornelius enters his high school career as the top two-way prospect in the class, also ranked No. 180 nationally and the No. 32 RHP in the country. He combines advanced physicality with one of the most complete toolsets in the state. A true multi-sport athlete, Cornelius spent this fall competing at for Boyle County’s powerhouse football program, competing in three games at quarterback. He made his baseball rise quickly, breaking out at the 2024 Western KY Rising Stars event, competing as the lone 2029 for Team Kentucky at the 2024 Junior Future Games, and continuing to impress throughout the summer before standing out once again at the 2025 Junior Future Games. On the mound, Cornelius already boasts one of the most complete arsenals in the class. The right-hander runs his fastball up to 86.2 mph with nearly 2200 rpm of spin, paired with a 70–73 mph curveball that consistently spins above 2000 rpm, a 71–73 mph slider, and a 73–74 mph changeup to round out a strong four-pitch mix. Offensively, Cornelius recorded a 99.9 mph exit velocity at the Fall PPL/Approach Data Day with triple digits looking inevitable this spring. He moves well for his size, turning in a 6.78 second 60-yard dash, 81 mph across the infield, 25.3 mph hand speed, 78.8 mph bat speed, and a 341-foot max BP distance. This fully-loaded toolset that allows him to impact the game in every facet. With his combination of physicality and athletic upside, Cornelius is poised to make an immediate varsity impact for a talented Boyle County squad. Expect him to play a major role as the Rebels push toward another deep postseason run and a potential return trip to the State Tournament in 2026.

Cooper Parman 3B / RHP / Whitley County High School, KY / 2029Rankings StateRank: 3 / POS: 1
At 5’9” 198 lbs, Parman checks in as the #3 overall prospect in the 2029 class and the top-ranked third baseman, bringing one of the most physical and imposing profiles in the state. A premium left-handed bat with advanced strength and poise on the mound, Parman enters Whitley County as a true two-way force in the 13th Region. Offensively, he’s features a big leg kick that transitions into effortless power through the zone. Parman posted a 98.2 mph exit velocity, 29.0 mph hand speed, 75.8 mph bat speed, along with a 79 mph infield velocity and 7.77-second 60-yard dash. Last spring, he hit .330 with 31 hits, 22 RBI, 8 extra-base hits, and a homer as an 8th grader at North Laurel. On the mound, the young 3B/RHP works into the low-80s with an 83 mph fastball up to 2208 rpm, pairing it with a 69–72 mph curveball, 69–71 mph slider, and 74–76 mph changeup, giving him a solid four-pitch mix for the class. Parman first emerged during the 13U Prep Baseball tournaments circuit and later put himself firmly on the map at the 2024 Eastern Kentucky Rising Stars Showcase. After another standout showing at the 2025 Preseason All-State, he cemented himself as a must-follow name in the class. Following his transfer to Whitley County, expect Parman to make an immediate impact on a talented roster as the Colonels push to break through a highly competitive 13th Region.

Lincoln Berryman 1B / RHP / Madison Central High School, KY / 2029Rankings StateRank: 4 / POS: 1
At 6’2” 182 lbs, Berryman brings one of the most projectable frames in Kentucky’s 2029 class, pairing a lean, athletic build with true two-way abilities. Another multi-sport athlete who competed on the basketball court throughout middle school, Berryman enters high school as the top-ranked right-handed bat and #1 first baseman in the class, checking in at #4 overall. He made a loud statement in his showcase debut at the 2025 Eastern KY Rising Stars, earning an invitation to represent Team KY at the 2025 Junior Future Games. His offensive metrics impress with a 93.4 mph exit velocity, 19.6 mph hand speed, 72.1 mph bat speed, 78 mph infield velocity, and a 7.60 second 60-yard dash. On the mound, the long-limbed righty sits at 82 mph with fastball spin rates climbing to 2249 rpm, paired with a 64–70 mph curveball, 68–70 mph slider, and 69–78 mph changeup. It’s a full and developing four-pitch mix that points to even more growth as his frame continues to fill out. As Berryman steps into a talented Madison Central program, expect him to become an immediate contributor in a deep roster. With physical upside and two-way tools that project well into the future, he’s poised to help the Indians navigate the always-loaded 11th Region this spring. |

Brayden Pegram SS / RHP / Elizabethtown High School, KY / 2029Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 2
At 5’11” 160 lbs, Pegram features a lean and athletic frame with high-level two-way upside. Ranked #5 overall and the #2 shortstop in the 2029 class, he’s another premium left-handed bat rising quickly in the freshman rankings. A true multi-sport athlete, he also appeared in eight varsity football games at quarterback for Elizabethtown this fall. Pegram impressed the Prep Baseball KY staff from his strong first impression at Lexington Rising Stars, earning a spot on Team KY for the 2025 Junior Future Games, where he delivered another standout two-way performance. He followed with another strong showing at the Fall State Games to finish the year, solidifying himself as a must-follow name in this class. At the plate, Pegram shows sprouting impact with an 85.2 mph exit velocity, 18.5 mph hand speed, 65.8 mph bat speed, 77 mph infield velocity and 7.93 60-yard dash, numbers that will continue trending upward as he adds strength. On the mound, the young righty is up to 80 mph with fastball spin climbing to 2225 rpm, pairing it with a 62–64 mph curveball, 70–72 mph slider spinning up to 2437 rpm, and a 73–74 mph changeup—a very polished four-pitch mix. Pegram’s production already translates to varsity action in the 5th region. As an 8th grader, he posted a .329 average with 24 hits, 16 RBIs, and 18 walks in only 73 at-bats. Pegram found success on the mound as well: 27.0 IP, 1.04 ERA, just 4 earned runs, 10 hits allowed, 5 walks, and 30 strikeouts, finishing a perfect 5–0. With Elizabethtown leaning heavily on a talented young core from the 2028 and 2029 classes, Pegram is poised to be a central piece of the Tigers’ lineup and rotation. Expect him to emerge as one of the 5th Region’s most impactful freshmen and a major factor in Etown’s postseason goals. |
