Mississippi's Best of the Fall: Catchers

As we close the door on our 2025 fall event schedule, the Prep Baseball Mississippi staff is taking time to reflect on what was an action-packed and talent-filled few months across the state. This fall featured a number of standout performances, with players continuing to raise their stock and make lasting impressions ahead of the spring season.
To conclude our fall coverage recap series, we begin by highlighting some of the top catchers our staff saw at events across the Magnolia State. These players showcased advanced feel for their craft, projectable frames, and competitive presence on the mound that stood out throughout the fall circuit.

Salvatore Benkovics C / 2B / Caledonia High School, MS / 2028Benkovics is a 5-foot-8, 140-pound catcher and middle infielder with a medium build and room to add strength as he continues to mature. At the plate, the right-handed hitter works from an even, balanced stance with a small leg lift into the swing, showing developing strength and a consistent middle-to-pull approach. He’s posted an 82 mph max exit velocity with a 300-foot top distance, showing the potential for more impact as he fills out. Defensively, Benkovics shows solid actions behind the plate with quick, clean transfers and pop times ranging from 2.04–2.18 seconds. His arm strength stands out for his age, reaching 78 mph from the crouch and 80 mph across the infield. |
